try to pay more attention to strokes and 'radicals' in kanji i guess. in 流域 you posted they are barely disorted - you can easily recognize 氵、川、土 and 或. what i imagine might be the source of your difficulties is that you either skim the kanji and recognize them based on context and some element of their structure (like beginners who recognize 鬱) or overuse a tool that recognizes kanji for you (popup dictionary etc.) i just don't see any other reason why you might have problems with recognizing that if you know the words, i mean, these kanji aren't very different to ones written using typical fonts used in books or on the internet

does it matter whether a word/kanji is in N2 quiz ? if you can read you should be able to recognize the components of it, and if you know other words with that kanji, possibly guess the reading in quiz either way. generally speaking, if you know japanese you can pass those quizzes without grinding (all quizzes but haard/insane/yoji/(plant/animal quizzes) in regards to vocab, and everything but 3 aoyagi in regards to font used)
