I am currently going through the core 2k after going through around 2k kanji and I am having a weird problem... I am able to associate the kanji with the general meaning in their use cases and also in general, figure out the "meaning" of the kanji with respect to the entire sentence being used in context along with most jukugo. Any new jukugo sticks super quick I might add. I went through my 2k kanji with my anki deck and basically memorized all the onyomi just because it was convenient to throw it into my mnemonics, as I just assumed it was more convenient to at least get into reading asap, figuring I would pick up on the kunyomi later (I assumed this would just be easier to do). I should also emphasize that I am placing "ideas" to associate with the kanji rather than focusing on a 1-1 English word translation (native english) and I am going back through my kanji deck now and getting a good amount of vocab from compound words on my second go around (typically I can get a 90% ish success rate of the right meaning with jukugo, maybe 85-90% correct hiragana equilivent with the onyomi/established vocab memory alone)

The problem (I assume this is a problem) is that I think I am using Kanji too much as a crutch. I guess my question is ultimately, is it that important to understand 100% of the pronunciations? Or is understanding the sentences more important? I can only assume I will learn the pronunciations as I go through this, but I would rather establish good habits now so I don't get bitten in the ass later. I will note that I really have no intent to speak/converse any time soon, and would rather focus on reading and listening (with reading first, will eventually hopefully get into being able to listen/understand without reading). I have been at this for maybe 3 months, but I feel like I am progressing crazy fast now with understandings. I just struggle on the pronunciations. I can only assume this is the opposite problem for most learners who do not upfront kanji.
