-Admiral, Happy 8th Anniversary! Let's do our best this year as well.
-Ryuuhou Kai-II and Kai-IIE has been implemented. Kai-IIE, the default, requires level 80, 1BP, and 1 Catapult. Kai-II requires level 88.
-It's Solomons time again. The Spring 2021 Event is scheduled to commence in early May. It will be a medium-scale event with 3 maps in the MO and 2 in the EO. There will be Japanese and foreign ships implemented. A new American cruiser and Yuugumo-class destroyer will be implemented.
-The February ranking rewards have been distributed. The new equipment is the Type 42 Air Radar Kai-II.
-PBY-5A Catalina now has a rescue mechanic. It is able to "pick up" fallen LBAS fairies, minimizing loss of planes.
-It is now possible to improve the Tenzan M12A through Akashi's Arsenal.
-2 new quests have been implemented.
-New and returning furniture has been implemented. 8th Anniversary seasonal CGs and voice lines have been implemented. The max ship slots has been increased to 490. 10 free equipment slots have been added to every account.
-As of the Feb 28, 2020 maintenance, due to the ongoing DDoS attacks, measures have been taken that requires players from certain countries to use a Japanese IP address to connect to the Login servers. After getting to the start screen it's possible to disconnect from the VPN and continue playing without it. If you still encounter connection issues try clearing your cache and changing your time zone to JST. These countermeasures are temporary as of right now. EN EO now bypasses the block. Another possible workaround is using https://github.com/Tibowl/KCCacheProxy
-The following ships will receive another remodel at some point in the future:

How old is the admiral supposed to be?
The youngest admirals irl were at least in their 40s, while most only get into the position in their 50s or older. The admiral at least in the fanart looks like in his 30s although there are some fanart with an old admiral. Also what does teitoku actually mean? While searching for the japanese term for admiral I found taisho for a grand admiral and an admiral and chujo and shosho for a vice admiral and rear admiral. But I also found out that navy admirals in One piece are called taisho, but there was a filler character a commodore who was called teitoku and pirate admirals are also called teitoku.
What does teitoku actually mean? Was it used alongside the term taisho?

The admiral is canonically the player playing the browser game, just like how the shipgirl Kaga is canonically the same being as the bombed out metal hull that's at the bottom of the sea near Midway in real life right now. 2D representations of players are open to arbitrary artistic design like the ships, so original character donut steel mary sues are allowed.

I can't read historical Japanese sources, but as far as I can tell, teitoku is a generic term for a fleet-level naval commander, and ranks like taisho are specific ranks within a particular navy. In English, commodore used to be a poorly defined officer in charge of multiple ships:

Skimmed through it, my Japanese isn't the best but here's what I gathered. For most people that actually rank, a lot of is just basic knowledge. There's a couple interesting bits about mind games.

-Most important point: don't rank at a pace you can't maintain. Slowing down in the latter half of the month will just make it more likely you get sniped out at the end.
-Standard ranking maps are 7-1, 3-2, and 3-4. 7-1 is the cheapest and easiest, but also the slowest. The author tends to uses a 2:3 ratio of 7-1 to 3-2 to balance speed and resources.
-Recommend using Asashimo, Ayanami, Naganami, Yuudachi, Yukikaze, Yahagi, Yuubari. DDs with 68+ base firepower are good.
-Three basic ASW setups. 3 sonar can make up for lack of base ASW and increases torpedo evasion, but the lower ASW damage means subs will occasionally make it past ASW phase and waste time. 2 sonar 1 depth charge is a good balance between the two and is what the author tends to use. The full synergy setup (sonar + depth charge + projector) ensures fast sub battles even with red T, and in the case you set your flagship with 3 sonars, MVP will cycle around your non-flagships so you spend less time cycling ships for morale.
-Doing EOs early has 2 main advantages. The first is declaring your intent to intimidate others, and the second is preventing other players from seeing your HQ EXP through the PvP screen to know if/when you've done your EOs (by comparing your HQ EXP to your ranking point increase). The disadvantages are that it's easy to track your ranking points and there's no contingency if you just don't get enough ranking points.
-Doing all your EOs later also has 2 advantages. The first is that you can save effort by aiming for the minimum cutoff, and the other is that it's harder to monitor your progress so you can snipe unsuspecting players near the cutoff. The disadvantage is that if you miscalculate, you're fucked.
-Do your EOs early = brute force, do your EOs late = mind games. Pick the strategy that fits you the best.
-The author tries to fake doing their EOs early by using 3-2 and 3-4 to get a lot of ranking points early, and throwing in an EO to make it look like they did more EOs then they actually did. That way, they throw off people who do EOs late so they don't lose at the end. It's worked for them 6 times now with no losses.

As a ranker (easy server, though), my two cents on this.
1) The number one factor for ranking is actually time: it's a marathon, not a sprint, so you gotta be sure you won't have any random shit messing with your time for the entire month if you're aiming for the big spots.
2) Senka is not weighted for time: that means that you can do your EOs and other runs whenever you care and it doesn't actually matter, since everyone with half a brain will ignore this mind game shit and do all he planned to anyway.
3) In theory, for top5~20 you can gain a fuckton of senka early and maybe discourage a few potential competitors, but if you can do that they wouldn't be able to touch you anyway.

Eh no way, 15h is TOO low for a top 5 ranker, and he's a top 1 mind you. Even with his 22 senka/hour (which is extremely hard to pull off, not possible with doing 7-1 alone), 15 hours would net him 330 senka/day BUT it's extremely hard to maintain such momentum. For example, 260 senka everyday consistently and you're already a top 5 ranker. 330 is too hard, but that's a top 1 ranker I suppose. Another example would be about how it took me 19 hours to reach 300 senka, take that as you will.

I'm not a top ranker, but I'd guess it's having absurd amounts of equipment and married duplicates for fastest fleet 3-2 runs, so the fleet presets can be used to cycle through a ton of fleets with the minimum possible time spent clicking on the UI.

For pvp spotting, the other trick would be making friends with servermates to share info. Rankers doing 500 or 100 would be good info collecting partners. If there's a team combining that with the 2nd pvp option, assuming that really works as advertised, it would make sense for them to end up with a lot of data.
