I hated it for a while but then I learned it was a video game and an actually very difficult video game and my pride could not stand for it so I played it and accidentally fell in love and haven't stopped since

Oh boy...hate to say this, but Diamond in the Rough was the reason I got into Touhou. Technically, it was because of a comment on this video that basically said "Diamond in the Rough is an very well-done parody of Touhou self-insert fics where the self-insert becomes overpowered".

I randomly came to /jp/, thought Touhou looked cool, and wound up playing EoSD.

I think i always knew about the franchise, I don't remember what pushed me to play em though... I think it was the times before /vt/ existed and a lot of threads about em were made here, but there were also 2hu threads and it got me interested, so one day I just downloaded TH8 since it was reccomended for begginers, played on easy modo, and ended up liking it a lot

I was and still am a metal head, and an otaku. A couple years back I stumbled on a metal youtubers cover of lunatic princess and fell in love. Did a bunch of research and got sucked in, played all the games over the summer 5 years ago. Love the lore, whimsical world, and Asian folklore but can't stand the fanon that dominates discussion and have been sucked into gacha hell

overdrive and marisa stole the precious thing when they were popular back in ye olden days
thankfully like a smart person i read about it on wikipedia, wikia and whatnot and then learned about doujinstyle to download the games and play them
i played eosd and died on stage 4 everytime but it was fun.
eventually i just tried all the games at that time, at least once and read omakes and perfect memento in strict sense
surprisingly i only got to reading some of the manga years later instead of early on, dunno why
thanks for coming to my blog

I found this arrange randomly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml083qw6oBk
then I was curious and listened to the original Touhou themes, liked it and fell in love with everything else in the series
(the channel I originally found the song on was deleted, the original video was older, but this is the same song)

My first exposure was >>35305405, iosys and night of nights.
at first i didnt care, but when i was searching for songs to play i found touhou and loved it. Have been a fan ever since, and touhou stuck with me through every other fad.

In my opinion the in-game music is best appreciated by playing the games, ZUN basically sets them up as interactive music videos, that man is a musical genius.

>> No.35314714

First it was the music, then one day a month or two ago, I decided to look more into the characters and lore and that was when I fell down the rabbit hole. Now here I am playing the games on and off when I wanna play something I can jump into real quick and listening to a growing playlist of music and pouring over the mangas.

Heard about touhou because of many references in undertale. Then decided to look into it more after listening to some touhou-style remixes.

>> No.35321328

Luna Nights showed up in my recommendations on Steam and I thought it seemed interesting so I played it. After that I got more curious about the series and got into playing the danmaku/listening to the music, which sealed the deal.

Knew about it for years but had no interest in it until one day I saw Koishi in a dream. I guess I just remembered her after seeing Touhou everywhere. After that I started reading the wiki and downloaded the games.

Somehow downloaded the UFO demo when it came out and bounced off because UFO is shit. Tried the first generation windows games a year or two after that, after getting exposed to more Touhou music, and contracted terminal autism.

the manga, unironically, I was bored and depressed in 2018 so I just looked up mild manga for the first time since modern western enterntainment is too pozzed for me to handle and stumbled upon touhou fairy manga, after that it was a downward spiral with the doujin music and trying the games ( I fucking bad at it). Which is pretty ironic turns of even considering I used to be extremely againts anime back in 2011 since I consider it to be some edgy and faggy chinese cartoon but still fap to hentai because 3D porn is disgusting and my first exposure to touhou was a hentai comic, but at that time I wasn't interested in it at all. thanks for reading my blog.

Tl;dr pozzed media makes me read a touhou manga and turn me into a weeb.

tl;dr I was first exposed to it thanks to my best friends brother when I was 10 and now I'm 20 and it's one of my favorite franchises.

When I was 10 my best friend at the time invited me over to his house to play Sonic or something and when I got there he quickly made fun of his older brother for liking Touhou because it only had girls in it. After he had gone to sleep I went and sat on the couch next to the computer his older brother was playing on. Ten Desires had just came out and I watched him play it and while I was awe-struck by all the bullets he was complaining about how easy it was, can't remember the rest of it too clearly as I was dozing off but it left a pretty big impact on my young mind. My parents divorced later that year and I ended up moving, I only saw them a couple times after that and never again.
I wouldn't get the chance to play Touhou until 5 years later when I got a laptop for Christmas and one of the first things I did on it was install EoSD, got my ass kicked but I loved it and I've been into the franchise ever since. In just a couple months I'd have known about Touhou for a decade.
I still suck at playing them but at least I can clear the Extra stages now.

There was a thread on /v/ on 2004 or 2005, I can't really remember, about this really hard game you just had to play.
It was 2hu, I played it and beat it, thought it wasn't that hard so at the time it was just a passing interest, but then after the games were translated and I realized you were supposed to 1cc them, It really revitalized my interest in them and then the storm of fan content came about and I was hooked.

I had been a fan of difficult shooting games that required some of level of reaction-time skill prior. Serious Sam TFE for example was a game I was really trying to get good at prior to Touhou.
I had known aboout Touhou as an otaku subculture prior and decided to take a look at what it even was. Japanese Galaga on steroids was the first thing that came to mind when I saw gameplay, it looked pretty challenging, and I knew it was something I wanted to pick up.
Then I made a post on weeb forum board I was apart of at the time asking "what was the best way to get into the gaming series?". I was told EoSD was the best starting game for a newbie.
It's been years since then, and I'm embarrassed to say I've only beaten 5 titles on normal so far.
Still a newfag and casual in comparison to allot of older players, I know my place and I mostly just lurk here or post fanart of my favorites characters so far. But at least I'm not a secondary and I hope to get better sometime in the future.
