if you do too much subtitle reading without proper listening, I think it's fair to say that you can handicap yourself and be reading-dependent. you can't simultaneously focus on audio and text, which is supported by the fact that without fail people who mainly read subtitles understand considerably less when they take subtitles off.

you don't want to always be thinking about how a word is written in order to understand its meaning. in real-time Japanese - as with any language - by the time you think about how a word is written there could've been 5+ more words said that you weren't even paying attention to. it's your call at the end of the day, but I think at the very least you want to be watching stuff without subtitles as much if not more than you watch stuff with subtitles.

Thing is narrative dialogue is purpose driven, while real life convos are sorta aimless.

Anyone have a guide for common vocab found in VNs? I was able to get the new Tsukihime remake but I've realized that since it's geared towards adults it won't have any furigana. I can usually read manga just fine because I can look up any kanji I don't recognize since I have furigana to be able to type it out.
