there's a huge difference. you don't intellectually understand all of english grammar, you can't, most of it has never even been codified. it's the difference between what krashen terms learning and acquisition. to cite a common example, you probably don't know why "big brown chair" is right and "brown big chair" is wrong, you couldn't diagram it, but you know.

yeah, 100% fuck genki. the only purpose of grammar is to make input comprehensible and if dolly is helping people with that great. personally i think tae kim is at least as good because everything is more concise and i find his use of example sentences really helpful but whatever. i just find dolly's approach to language learning in general suspect, starting with the way she relabels 'grammar' as 'structure' in order to suggest she's doing something fundamentally different from every other grammar guide

I work on my feet most of the day, and have attempted japanese in the past but never really was able to remember all of the hiragana.
I figure I will give it another go, but instead put myself in the routine of listening while at work to start and form a habit.

I was curious, if anyone could suggest an (English) audiobook that is excellent for Japanese learning, for COMPLETE BEGINNER? Preferably audio without a shitty microphone.

I know audiobooks aren't ideal, but they will at least give me something to listen to and learn while on my feet at work. Hopefully form more of a learning habit and feel the progress more, and get more used to the language, then when I have time at home, branch out to attempt hiragana more.
I've enjoyed Michael Tilson Thomas's method for French, if that means anything.
