Things come and go. It's similar the argument for videogames now not being the same as videogames than. It's not really nostalgia since videogames just stopped being fun and innovative and turned solely to profits and profits alone, releasing unfinished games that remix the most popular genre at that time, for no real progress.
Games now just don't have a soul and indies don't stay in the spotlight very long.
There's no real reason to stop, it's still fun even though some seem content on making things hard for other people.

the fact that I could never browse through all the content out there means there's always something new and cool waiting, I've recently dived more into MMD stuff and it's been pretty fun seeing what people manage to do
it's been with me for nearly two decades and I don't expect that to change anytime soon, my one regret is not having the skill to add anything of value into the community

Because every other thing people like to compare touhou with like KanColle, Uma Musume or vtubers (even though Touhou has nothing similar with these things beyond anime girls), to me, they have nothing on Touhou.
Touhou is just too honest, interesting and modest, it's the result of a man's passion and it never whored itself out despite of how overwhelmingly popular it was and still is.
Even if faggots like to hop from one trend to another because that one new girl got bigger tits than the previous one, fans who got hooked because of the characters, the atmosphere, the music and the world will stay in, because there's nothing like it.

The community continues to produce high quality content and be generally pretty entertaining. The mainline games have continued to be pretty decent. A lot of other fandoms have gotten increasingly bland and deviated towards the lowest common denominator. I don't like things that are different.

It's not that it's different, it's that they all became the same at some point. Gacha after gacha. There are series whose entire premise is gacha and are built from the ground up on gacha.

Same reasons I'm still into Dwarf Fortress in 2021 - a single man's passion project, not aimed at simply extracting money from the general populace, but sharing their a(r/u)tistic vision with the rest of the world instead. Both projects are still ongoing, both still have a dedicated fan following and have inspired interesting derivative works. DF just deals more with western fantasy and is a bit more niche than 2hu.
