th6: there is a gothic lolita vampire that has covered gensokyo in a red mist
th7: spring is being stolen by a ghost princess that is trying to revive somebody trapped in a tree located in the afterlife
th8: girls from the lunar kingdom have replaced the moon using a spell
th9: the souls from the afterlife are taking the control of flowers
th10: oh no, there is a new shrine and shrine maiden in gensokyo, now reimu has to tech her a lesson.
I really think touhou lost some magic during and after touhou 10, do you also think the same, anon?
the older games just felt really different from the rest, very dreamy.

I think the older games feel drastically different compared to the new, but I wouldn't agree with your opinion.

touhou lore stops after 13
everything after that are some random stories that get solved the same time they appear

the only long lasting plot point after the religious arc is the urban legends and how they've stuck around

The later games feel like they lose a certain whimsical magic, but that's probably just nostalgia speaking.

Part of the charm of the older games for me at least is that they feel and look like someone slapped something together in GML. There's a certain charm their very amateurish look has.

It feels like the most recent games have more "grounded" plotlines, or at least more references to real-world things which might be why the games seem less whimsical or dreamlike. The most recent games are pretty nonchalant about it. AoCF references peoples' growing spending habits, 17 features the Yakuza and has them fool Reimu and co into doing their dirty work and 18 is outright a nod to physical marketplaces fading away. And of course more recently 17.5 is centered around oil.

The plotlines feel a little less convoluted than the earlier games. That's not to say they're bad, though, but I do think ZUN is pulling more off current world happenings and things than he did before.

The only good games are all from PC98 and the first Windows trilogy

maybe its the graphics, 14 and beyond look very different from the older ones

No, I don't pay much attention to the graphics, but PCB, since it had the largest impact for me felt almost surreal. It's the same game, but the feeling is different. Later games felt more tense for some reason. There was more thinking involved which I believe is what OP means. There's a more established storyline. The early games were hazy in a sense that it was dreamlike since there was no real canon and things changed game to game with the characters remaining somewhat the same.
I understand OP's viewpoint on the series losing something along the way, but that's how most things are. The beginning is almost dreamlike, it's wonderful. Once it continues, it begins to "lose" some of that "magic." The best way I can describe it is with Christopher Robin and Winnie the Poo (bear). Specifically when he grows up. It was fun and games, but things gradually began to change.
As far as the games go, it can go either way really. Opinions vary, and ultimately the only thing that matters is what you get from the games.

True, but unpopular opinion.
I don't know how many receive it, but LoLK was a fun addition despite the difficulty.

No it just your nostalgia bias. The only thing i notice is the music are less catchy, thats it.

that scene at the end of stage 4, when the music stops for a brief moment then you turn to face the door feels great

I started with 17 an then continued to 15(i heard that was the hardest) and then started playing the games in the normal order from 6 and i was immediately able to notice that the older games were very different in feeling.

I wouldn't say it's a nostalgia factor, but it could play a part in some people.

What's the matter? They're all post-98.
