How do you feel about characters in visual novels that have had sex before? Does it disgust you? Do you get the same horrible pit in your stomach that I do upon discovery? Do you drop the series and try to purge your mind of any memory of the novel/characters like I do? The minute I find a girl of my interest has been raped/had sex/was in love with someone before the protagonist I'm playing as, I drop it right away. Even if it is vaguely implied, I will just completely focus in on trying to prove the implication wrong and completely focus on it the whole game, desperately trying to prove it wrong.

I'd say that it's quite the opposite. American comic writers love throwing rape into stories so that it will make the women DEEP. Rape is used often as a poor excuse for making a character darker and edgier (by both men and women). It's certainly used as a way of saying MEN ARE EVIL but in western and eastern comics and cartoons it's usually the former. I really have to say that I haven't read many stories by women that use rape this way. It may depend on the genre of fiction you're reading though.
