Some of the scenes in the VN are truly like time capsules to the turn of the millennium. That's how many people treat it, but that isn't true. There is absolutely no romantic tension in that ending except between Shirou and Rin. Ciel route on the other hand centered around Arc wanting to take Shiki for herself and even in that ending he is like her slave and at the end she kisses him while Ciel is watching and he likes it (Nasu you piece of shit...). The UBW ending is a threesome ending only if you want to want it to be so and the text even goes against it.

If I'm being honest I find TM far too convoluted and not straightforward enough. It's cool if (You) or others are into that but for me as long as the story is good and doesn't break preestablished lore in a way which undermines the story or too hard in general then I don't really care. From what is being described, the problem seems to lie less with people having any knwoledge of the Nasuverse and more with them just being shit writers.

In the majority, if not all, of those stories, she is a prop.
Originally, it was 'le ebin troll Zelretch', but apparently people began disliking that, so shitty authors, instead of learning the lore and thinking about compelling ways to tell an original story, chose 'le incompetent Tohsaka fucking up le second magic' as the prop to send their OC wearing a Shirou skin all the way to their crossover so they can rehash canon, but with their character being sucked off.

The problem isn't that there isn't a lot of attention on the lore (although there most certainly is a lot of underutilized aspects of the Nasuverse), its more that most fanfic writers are lazy and shit.

Even in the first movie before she gains her eyes she jumps from rooftop to rooftop, slashes every single ghost like butter, and practically no-sells cutting her own arm off like it wouldn't be an absolutely horrifying and painful thing to do. Neither Shirou nor Tohno Shiki approach this level of power until the finales of their routes. Tohno is technically more OP but he's an anemic japanese teenager so his physical capabilities being quite limited balances things out a lot.

Tohno, being a Nanaya is physically more dominant. But he's a proper double edged sword because of his supernatural affliction. Despite his lack of life threatening him, he's actually extremely strong. This honestly makes him more interesting to watch IMO. He ranges from a relatable and normal dude in an insane situation to a far more bizarre/crazy creature/killer than the rest depending on circumstances and mindset. He's clearly a blend of normal with an extreme abnormality under the surface. Like early on he's filled with so much fear and terror that he makes the superhuman dogs attack seem much worse than it is. This was unironically right after another dog instantly sprang 20 meters and had it's fangs on his throat before he noticed it. A beat later his body is reacting on it's own and killing it before it's fangs sink in. It's almost like his sense of reason as a normie is deluding himself and in conflict with his basic nature so as soon as he gets in the zone, he's shrugging off being eaten all over, losing limbs etc as if it's nothing or shanking the strongest character in TM.

I know that doing Arc in like that is very impressive, but I feel like it was more of a situation where the planets aligned (catching Arc completely off-guard, Arc never encountering MEODP before, Nanaya instincts kicking in, MEODP being MEODP, etc.) than something which he achieved as a result of his own skills and strength. TM works of the classic era were just not about dragon ball-esque "whose number is bigger" battles in general. Still, it's undeniably impressive, but it's not like Shirou matching Gil's Gate of Babylon with UBW or even what Shiki does to Nero, for example.

It's not as severe or as integral to their character design as it is with Tohno but she still strains depending on the target. The main difference in 'feedback' is she can change her outlook to compromise with seeing death.

Shiki's a natural born killer. An assassin at his core, this is why Nanaya berates himself for being dragged into a drawn out fight in MB even when he wins. This is part of his skills and strength. Arc mentions that despite his eyes being the most horrible mutation in the history of the world and the rarest of the rare that he himself is equally crazy. His ambush of Arc was so perfect that it would be regarded as an unparalleled masterpiece if it was captured as a painting. Remember this is still Arc, the strongest being in TM and he took her from the front. Every line in an instant, Nanaya is scary with his techniques. Nero is also very impressive though. Those beasts were cracking concrete just from moving, capable of destroying tanks and were several times faster than animals already beyond human comparison. They and stronger shit were being fodderized and even Nero was getting his arm slashed and point pierced despite being as fast as Arc. Even in Remake where he's not nearly that much 'Nanaya' he still cutting down numerous ice bullets and dodging the lance thrown by Vlov while falling. This is all early on.

Given her killer nature it makes sense that Mikiya would feel that way about her. It’s basically the Batman issue of having one person die by his hands will make him follow the same path that the bad guys would go through. She was so close be being a mindless killer if she killed one person due to her nature. I just compared doujin and 2007 versions of Fukan Fuukei in Sublime, and it's mostly just typo corrections and refrasing for better text flow. There are a lot of them, not worth mentioning. The only things of note is that Shiki's jacket used to be black (changed to familiar red in chapter 3) and different Touko design. Can't be bothered to check the rest, it's a lot of text even with text editor's help.
