You heard all sorts of bad things about the Tengu. How they spread rumors and manipulate people, how they're xenophobic and arrogant, the occasional hushed whisper about abducted men. But you started to doubt them when you met Aya. You had picked up the Bunbunmaru out of curiosity when you had nothing else to do but soon started read it out of interest in the unusual paper, then a whim out of boredom lead to you responding to a request from readers to write in to the editor. This lead to the editor herself visiting you the next time she was in the village to have a chat, which led to you going out for drinks, which led to the start of a friendship.

From then on, the two of you would often met. She'd often ask you for your perspective on a story she was writing, or if there was a festival going on, she would have you tag along with her to cover it. Sometimes she wouldn't even bother coming up with an excuse and the two of you would just hand out and relax. Sometime in the relationship, she would reveal a startling secret. The red eyed, pointy eared reporter that always dodged questions what where she lived was actually a Tengu! It was a big shock. honest. But you swore to keep her secret, and she was even willing to pay for a side job where you helped her with her reporter work in the village.

Then one day as the two of you were taking a relaxing stroll on the outskirts on the village, she asked you a question "Anon, you ever wanted to go outside the village? Youkai Mountain is gorgeous, you really should see it for yourself" . You stop and stare at her questioningly. "But isn't it dangerous there for a human". She shakes her head "Oh no, only if you're an idiot that goes alone. With an escort..." she proudly pokes her chest "Nobody is gonna touch a hair on your head. Trust me. Just a day outside the village with me, nobody is gonna even notice" You still had some skepticism about the whole thing, but she was able to wear you down and a date was set. Days pass and the day arrives. You arrived at the meeting point to see Aya already waiting. "Okay, now, you might want to take a deep breath in.." Before you can exhale and ask what she means, she swoops you up and you're in the air. She's fast. Too fast. By the time your brain wakes up and tells your entire body to panic, Youkai Mountain is in sight. As soon as her feet touch solid ground, you worm out of her grasp and flop on the ground, heaving for air. "Ah, guess a normal human ain't used to that sort of thing, sorry" she says sheepishly. "But look" As soon as you gather yourself, you see where she's pointing. The view really is gorgeous from up here. For as far as the eye can see there are mountains and trees, with an unobstructed view of the sky. Even a small land like Gensokyo seems to go on forever from here.After you've appreciated the sights there, Aya dragged you along, showing you more beautiful sights of the mountain and going on about it's history and the settlements there until evening started to set in. "It's getting late, why don't we stay over at my place for dinner and I can drop you off in the morning?". You don't see any reason to say no.

Neat to see all the takes on Aya, wrote a bit in one of her threads a bit ago. For me, its the pent up frustration expressing itself through toxic relationship kind of Aya. Has to deal with a microcosm of a society that doesn't respect her efforts nor brings prospects of growth, has to play the sensationalism game in a world where things really often aren't as eventful as she'd need them to. I just can't see her coming home, tossing aside the camera & notebook, and having a nice, lovey dovey time with her house husband who left a warm bubble bath for her and cooked dinner.
She needs to feel something, she can't just sit down and enjoy a regular love life. A thousand year of stagnation fucks your mind, either you break into the most unambitious person out there, or you express it in foul ways whenever the opportunity comes. It's not that Aya WANTS to beat her house husband over something as arbitrary as the tea being too cold, it's just that it makes her feel something. Seeing Anon shocked with it, crying a little, the evolution of his reactions to a slightly angry real Aya, from the wide, yet stealthful look as to never meet Aya's glare, to his legs shaking. All of that is just so real, so honest. Finally, Aya's sitting through an actual scene rather than making up one, and its one that she has power over. Ain't that something for a change.

Aya's home was more humble then you were expecting. It was almost like any other house you'd fine in the village, if a bit cluttered with reports and others tools from her job. The tengu managed to find a dusty guest futon from her closet and went to prepare dinner for the two of you. After you had both eaten and cleaned up, she asked if you wanted to have some sake and watch the sunset before bed, which you did. As you take in the view, she pulls out her notebook and flashes that familiar cheeky smile and practiced tone that while smug was friendly enough to not be annoying. "Let's do a practice interview, Anon....". She asks the expected questions like where you work and your favorite parts of the village, and you answer back, mostly concerned with sipping your sake and taking in the view. Then she drops a bombshell. "Anon, are you a virgin?" You turn to look back at her and notice her leaning forward, a very intent look on her face. You briefly thought it was some sort of joke, but she seemed too interested in the answer. "Uh, Well...." You struggle to answer back, caught off guard but such a question. Aya leans in more, laying down her notepad and takes your chin in her hand, with her other laying down on your wrist. Her eyes squint, scrutinizing your expression. "Hmmmmmm, I think I know the answer" Her hand goes from your chin down to caress your neck.


This was all very strange. In all the time you knew her she had never gotten this intimate with you."Aya, is something up?" you ask.She shushes you. "Oh nothing, I was just thinking how we shouldn't just go to bed tonight" Her other hand, without your permission, decides to explore your waist in a way that's too over-familiar for a friend. That same hand decides the time to be bold is now and reaches for the hem of your pants. You try to scoot away, a little concerned about how sudden this is when you realize you can't. Her grip on you is strong, very strong. "Come on, don't be coy....." she says playfully "Haven't I been good to you? Let's have some fun" Without waiting for a response, she continues to take off your pants before hoisting you up and dragging you back to her bedroom "Come on....Come on..." With a soft pomf, she pushed down on her futon and lay down on top of you. As she tried to force off your shirt, your mind raced with possibilities. Was it as simple as her just being aggressive about this sort of thing? Or was it some prank, part of an elaborate tengu scheme? Would going all the way with her go against the unspoken rules of this world? Sensing you're still a bit wary about this whole thing she scoffs "Come on, the beautiful reporter Aya wants to do it with you and you'll still like this? I thought men were supposed to be easy" Feeling a little too awkward to be insulted about the insinuation about your virtue, you don't respond. Aya had managed to twist off your shirt and is nor working on disrobing herself, simply throwing her garments away as she keeps you pinned down. When she's finished with herself, a simple tug on your underwear leaves the two of you both naked. Aya continues her assault, breathing in heavily before forcing you into a kiss, holding you in until you're erect. Without asking what you want to do next, she removes herself from the kiss and positions herself over your penis and slides herself down, leaning in and riding you in a way that could only be described as 'animistic'.

It takes a while of her playing with your body before she has enough, moving off of you and taking a position next to you, stroking your hair. "I hoped you enjoyed it Anon, Because I think we'll be doing a lot more of that in the future" You turn to look at her, not a hint of insincerity is on her face "Of course, we'll still do all the things we liked to do, but now we can have even more fun. But I don't want you going around telling people nasty things about me, you know" she frowns slightly, her mood a bit soured at the thought. "Firstly, nobody is gonna believe you, I've squashed more then a few rumors in my life. Secondly, even if they do believe you, don't you know how this looks? A man following a tengu all the way up to her home on the dangerous Youkai Mountain? Oh my, you should have known what was going to happen. Do you want everyone in the village to know you're a slut?" She giggles at the idea, seemingly finding it amusing. "Good night Anon, it was fun"

Aya came home, clearly in a bad mood. She'd always dreaded the meetings with the bigwigs, but this time was especially frustrating. She always knew that no good would come out of them other then more confirmation of her stagnation in life as the higher castes shook each others hands as they bossed around everyone below them, but this time was especially frustrating. They really singled her out in front of everyone to scold her, and all she could do was grin and bear it as she wagged their fingers and told the other tengu to not be like her. She was still livid when she arrived home to her husband who was still cleaning things up. When he looked up to her, his expression soon turned to one of fear and concern, even if he tried to mask it. He had long since learned to not ask her how these meetings went. Aya sighed and flopped down at the table, waiting for her dinner to be served. Without a delay, Anon quickly brought over her dinner and bowed out do do other work. But something about how he meekly served her and seemingly resigned himself to his position just really pissed her off today.

She rose up from the table and Anon shied back, knowing what to expect from her expression. This only served to anger her even more, and she delivered a blow to his stomach, holding back enough where it only just hurt him. "If I'm going to have to deal with horseshit all day, the least you could do is have everything done by now! Why are you slacking off, you got something more important to do?" Anon muttered a few excuses and looked away, and Aya had to hold herself back from striking him again, her anger still not vented. "Just bring me some sake and find something else to do, I'll eat dinner" Anon nodded, hiding his face from her as he hobbled off, still hurting from the blow. Aya fumed to herself and ate dinner alone once again, telling herself this was the way things had to be.

The rest of the world carried on, unknowing of the night you spent with Aya, but it was a turning point for you. You tried to distance yourself more from her as you didn't feel as comfortable around her, but she refused to accept that. The first time you tried to blow off her offer of helping her move newspapers, she simply smiled and said you could always help her out by appearing in one of her issues. Scandals always sold well, and you did seem like the type to be involved in some nasty behavior. You got what she implying and gave in. After a while, you stopped trying to avoid her altogether.

She overall become much more possessive of you.Whenever she wanted to spend time with you she got it.It also became something of a game to her to see how much she could get away with around others. Whenever you would be eating at a food stall, she would sneakily grope you while the owner was busy cooking, confident nobody would notice and you wouldn't cry out. Helping her out with work became an excuse to be alone with you, where you could do as she leased no nobody around. The whole relationship became far too suffocating for you as you expected for there to be a misstep or a mistake in the future that led to people finding out about your predicament or Aya ruining you. You needed someone to turn to for help, but whom? Then one day as you spending the time you had free of Aya doing shopping in the market you overheard Reimu Hakurei arguing with a fishmonger that she should at least get a discount for all the hard work she put in protecting the village. Reimu, of course! You've only talked to her a few times since coming to Gensokyo, but surely she would help you, solving this sort of thing was her duty. Aya would always reminder you that people would never look at you the same way again if they found out what happened to you, but Reimu should be understanding of the whole thing. She deals with youkai causing issues all the time, and as a holy woman she must have the compassion and tact to help you without judgement and controversy. It was decided, you would go to her for help when Aya wasn't breathing down your neck.


When you were sure Aya was far away from the village, you steeled your nerves and headed out to the Hakurei shrine. You had gone over what you wanted to say in your head, but you still felt a pit in your stomach, this wasn't something you wanted to confess to someone. But it was the only way to be free. When the shrine came into view. The pit in your stomach widened even further. She was there. Aya waved to you. "Visiting the shine? I'll just join you if you don't mind" She gave you that same smug knowing look you came to know and dread all too well. With no choice but to move forward, you closed in on the shrine. Reimu was outside, sipping tea and watching the clouds. She saw you approach and raised a hand in greeting. "Ah. Need anything?" Some voice deep in your mind demanded you shout out, tell her everything that was going on. Aya surely wouldn't be able to do anything right here, and Reimu would help you. But then you felt Aya's hand squeeze yours, and that thought died out before it was even a whisper on your lips. What if Reimu disbelieved you, or found out you went outside of the village? What if she talked about you and the village found out? "Ah, just here to pray." Reimu nodded and waved you inside. As you said a few prayers, Aya dropped a few offerings in the donations box. When the shrine maiden was busy counting the offerings, Aya dragged you off to a quiet shaded corner of the shrine grounds, looking very angry. "Don't think I'll just ignore you trying to run off and tell the miko. You did good being quiet, she was never going to help you. But you need to earn your forgiveness. You can start now" With a shove she sends you down to the grounds and she takes you just within shouting distance of the shrine, as if in defiance of the shine maiden within.

But as punishment for trying to involve Reimu she told you to leave your current job in the village and work for her full time so she could keep a better eye on you. With the last legitimate excuse for avoiding her gone, she was free to take more control of your life.Most of your job was doing the menial tasks and chores she found too boring. Delivering letters, sorting out her writings, ordering shipments. Nothing that any outsiders would find too odd, although there were a few raised eyebrows at Aya suddenly taking you in. But most people's curiosity died down when it seemed you really were just helping her run the newspaper. Aya's behavior didn't stop there. Now that you were working for her, she would often secret you away from the village to other places in Gensokyo. Sometimes she could excuse this as being part of work, but it became clear to you this was usually her idea of a date. Most of the time it was right to her place, and you've started to spend enough time at there where she didn't bother moving the guest futon back into the closet again.

When you did go somewhere else, she forbade you to wander off and would quickly shoo off any youkai that tried to interact with you, interested in what a human was doing with a tengu so far outside the village. Aya seemingly didn't care that most of them seemed to draw a certain conclusion from all of this, one that wasn't too far from the truth. She almost seemed to relish it, returning quizzical stares from other youkai with a smug smile and getting closer to you. Thankfully, it seemed they never spread rumors, or those rumors died off quickly, so officially you were still Aya's friend and employee. Another strange thing you noticed was that Aya seemed a bit happier this way. In the village, Aya had to hide the truth of your relationship, and even the sneakier friskier moments she would drag you into were covert enough to avoid detection. Out here, it was like she was challenging others to deny there was something unusual about your relationship as she dragged to the hot springs with her for "work reasons".

You didn't want to pry into her private life, so you nodded your head in agreement and helped her with dinner.

When the quiet, uneventful dinner and cleanup was done, Aya sat down in your living room and pulled out a book to read. She wasn't really interested in doing anything else, so you guess she really was in a bad mood. "Aya, you need anything?" She shook her head. "I'm good, thanks anyway" Noticing you were still hanging around a minute later, she looks up from her book "Look, it's fine. Just Tengu politics, I deal with it all the time, I doubt a human would understand if I explained it." A second later, as if she realized she said. she clarifies "Ah, you know what I mean, it's all secrets and complications, I couldn't even explain it if I was allowed" Reading the air, you picked up a book of your own to read and sat down next to her, putting a hand near hers. While she was busy with her book, you could see a faint smile form on her face and her hand held onto yours.

They'd never accept a human joining their ranks and didn't even want the moriyans opening up their temple without a bit of underhanded trickery to farm some fear from them. If Aya ever wanted to take a husband her only option would be a nice human since all youkai males tend to be as self centered and unreliable as their females. Which means that Aya would have to abandon her only refuge for 60-80 years and then what? She'd have to spend centuries worming her way back in after you die and working to even regain her lowly position as a reporter.

I was bored so I decided to write a one off as well

A note was left by your door when you had woken up that morning, one written by Aya herself. “Meet me by the forest of magic, I need your help with work” it had read with a love heart on the other side. A trip outside the village scared you but Aya being angry at your lack of show scared you more, so you quickly rushed out of the house to make the trip.

This wasn’t your first adventure to the forest. When you arrived in Gensokyo it was one of the first places you visited, only for you to be warned and sent back by a blonde haired magician with an oversized hat. You kept to a path that said magician had shown you as it was the safe path for a human to take to and from the forest. Despite how supposedly “safe” the path was you couldn’t help but feel on edge, all was quiet, no birds chirping, no bugs humming, not even the wind whistling, just the sounds of your footsteps and heart beat slowly racing faster.

You froze in place when you heard a rustle come from some bushes to your left and your blood ran cold once a voice came out of them. “Aha! Seems I’m found” the forest shrubs spoke. A woman had jumped out of the bushes and perhaps from instinct alone, you could tell it was Youkai. “It shouldn’t be an issue though, you’re far enough from the village and anyone out this far will just ignore your screaming” not that it mattered, as you try to scream but nothing comes out. You shield your eyes, still frozen in place, prepared to be eaten or tortured by this monster… Is what you expected, but a sudden gust of wind forces you to open your eyes and you look up as, the one you were suppose to meet, came to your rescue.

You would have breathed in a sigh of relief, if only it wasn’t for you being carried in Aya’s arms as she flew away from the scene. It was hard to make out her voice through the sounds of wind rushing by, but you could tell she was worried about you and it wasn’t until she landed on top of a thick tree that you could hear her. “I’m so sorry Anon, I made sure the paths were clear before I called for you!” You could notice her eyes getting watery but before you could tell her you’re okay, “You wait here, you should be safe, I have to deal with a wench first”.

Aya came back as fast as she left, but it was clear that the Youkai had put up a fight against her. Her human disguise she typically wore was battered and ripped in some places, her hat had vanished and scrapes and bruises were all over her body. “It’s okay. I’m okay. That woman shouldn’t mess with you aga- ow ow” She moved to hug you but was sore all over.

You helped bring Aya back to your house in the village, as it was closer than Youkai Mountain and Aya was in no position to fly, making sure to take back allies and lesser walked roads. You have her wait on your bed while you grab some basic medical supplies. It may have been her fault you ran into the Youkai, but you can’t deny she saved you, so tending to her wounds was only the right thing to do, and a little bit deep down you were worried. “Well… I got worried, and angry, when you were taking long so I came to pick you up thinking you weren’t coming, and then I spotted you out of the corner of my eye” You continue to clean her wounds with antiseptic wipes and bandages, spotting a smile on her face. It isn’t the same leechours or smug smile she normally has around you, but rather a sweet smile, the same kind of smile that made you interested in her when you first bought an issue of Bunbunmaru.

You finally finish treating her wounds and offer her to stay for the day, but she refuses “I still have that work in the forest to do. You stay here though, I don’t want a repeat of this morning. Oh but before I forget” She stands on her tippy toes and pecks your forehead with her lips “Thank you” and just like that, she was gone. You stand at your front door, butterflies in your stomach, your heartbeat racing and a battle of emotions inside of your head

Time goes on and thigns for the most part stay the same. The Bunbun never becomes and overnight success due to your work but it still sells well enough to put enough money in your pocket to live and the satisfaction of putting together an issue and seeing your name appear in the paper made your work worth it. Your job did let you met some of the more important people in Gensokyo and most of them came to recognize you as Aya's assistant. On a few occasions Aya would even send you off to ask them a few questions. This was probably due less to your raw masculine charm and charisma and more due to that some of them just didn't feel like answering her questions.


None of them seemed to suspect there was anything more to your relationship to Aya, but you were starting to have a few questions yourself. She was your boss of course, but what else was more complicated to you. You did all the things one would expect a couple would do, you spent time together, supported each other, and got intimate with each other, but it was still a secret to the world. It seemed so long ago where she she used this as leverage over your head, something that could be revealed and twisted to leave you in ruin. But seeing how she changed her attitude towards you so much since then and abandoned the idea of blackmail, you suspected she had another reason for not wanting others to find out. Not being familiar enough with Tengu political structure or blackmail to give any advice, you tidy things up a bit to avoid siting in silence.

As you do this, Aya gets up and grunts to herself, seemingly not having any ideas either. "I guess all we can do for now is just continue on, just remember my offer okay? They'll leave you alone if you're not with me" Despite trying to be serious, there was a tinge of sadness in her voice that betrayed how she really felt about it. "Aya, I told you, I'm not going to leave" She huffs. "Geez, when did you get so stubborn?" With the problem at hand discussed, the both of you got back to work. Surely a life under the constant stress and pressure of the powerful trying to driver you away isn't much of a way to live, but you simply couldn't give up your new way of life now.

No one under them can refuse their orders.They'll hunt us down if we ignore this" You place a hand on her shoulder. "I guess we have no other choice then" Aya looks down at the letter, as if hoping there would be some sort of escape clause to it. "No. No we don't" Resigned to your fates, you and Aya spend the next few hours in near silence, finishing things up and refreshing up so you'll at least look your best at the dreaded meeting, then you head out.

You arrive at an ostentatious manor that belays the importance and wealth of the owner. A foxgirl waits outside the doors. Seeing you, she gives you a little bow. "Greetings, Sir Anon and Miss Shameimaru. I am Tsukasa Kudamaki, simple servant of Master Iizunamaru. We have been waiting for you. Come." Spinning on the balls of her feet, she opens the doors and motions you inside. The manor is even more impressive on the inside, but you don't have time to gawk as Tsukasa guides you through. "Please remember to show the proper respect, and answer her truthfully. I'm sure you'll come to an understanding if you listen to what she has to say." Stopping at a room, she opens it for you . Inside what seems to be some sort of meeting room, you see a few tengu lounging around. Your eyes are drawn to one clad in blue that seems to radiate power. You guess this is the boss. Tsukasa slips by you and gives another bow to the tengu. "Miss Iizunamaru, your guests. Sir Anon and Miss...." She clicks and tongue and rolls her hand about, as if she just happened to forget her name. "Aya Shameimaru" Aya responds, knowing better then to show any irritation. Aya bows towards the daitengu, and you decide it's best to do so as well. "Very well, Shameimaru, you can leave. I'll discuss things with Anon" Aya's head snaps up. "But I.." Aya tries to protest, but falls silent when the daitengu raises her hand. Under to hold back a giggle, Tsukasa leans forward. "Perhaps you don't understand. She has matters to discuss with the human alone" she sneers. "I'm sure you can find something to do with your time. You can have the human back later" Aya looks around the room, and her hand balls into a fist for a moment. With a quiet sigh, she relaxes her fist and looks you in the eyes. "I guess this is it then, I'll...see you" Looking back at you, Aya follows Tsukasa outside, leaving you alone with the other tengu.

"To be honest, I have no idea what she sees in you, but even if someone like you can prove useful to her, then I just have to know. Now, be honest with me" Her eyes start to study you.

"Well, I just got used to it" Megumu simply huffs and removes her hand from your chin. "Well that works, Now how do you do the work? it must be too much for a human, or are you just a secretary?" Again you take some time to find an answer "Oh, I just kept at it and got better" Another huff from Megumu, it seems that these answers weren't exactly what she was expecting. "Now..." she says as she leans in far too close, so close you could feel her breath on your face. "I know you're gotten very intimate with her, even you should know how conversational this is, yes?" You can only stay quiet in terror. "But some of the Tengu have unusual tastes, and if it keeps the Tengu happy and makes humans useful, I'm willing to let them have their toys. Driven by sheer animal terror, you back away and kick her in the stomach. She doesn't even react.

You never even saw her hand move. You end up flying away and land on the ground, the side of your head aching in agony "I guess she didn't train you enough. Unable to do anything else, you shout out "Aya! Aya!" Tsukasa is bouncing around in amusement. "Aya's not here, just be quiet!" A blow from one of the tengu to your stomach shuts you up. And then they're upon you.

You don't recall much of what happens to you then, as you try to block everything out. As Megumu looks on in partial interest, the other tengu have their way with you. Whenever they think you'll not doing a good enough job, they smack you or shout to get you to focus. When you feel like you're going to pass out at one point, they bring out a some bottle of something and force you to drink, which perks you up enough for them to continue. Finally, it's over. It could have been hours, or maybe much less then that. Picking you up, they lead you to a bath and throw your clothes on the floor besides you. "Clean up" a voice commands. Stumbling to the bath, you get inside and clean yourself. Focusing entirely on your bath so you don't have to think what just happened to you, you realize just how aching and tired you are. You push yourself to finish up and go to get dressed, finding that your tattered clothes are just whole enough to stay on your body. Moving back to the other room, you find your rapists lounging around again, some of them chatting to Megumu, no doubt about what they did to you. "Ah, human" Megumu says to you "We learned quite a bit today, but we have no more use of you for today. If we need you again, we'll find you. Tsukasa, escort him out"

Tsukasa grabs hold of your hand and leads you through the manor, humming to herself. Arriving at her destination, she opts to open the door and shove you inside, shutting the door behind you. Looking around, you find that someone is there with you, sitting on a chair and looking downwards. Aya looks up when she hears you enter the room. Glancing you over, It takes a few seconds for the realization to hit her. "No...No....No..." She quickly gets up and hastily makes her way towards you, grabbing onto your shoulder. "Anon! Please, say something!" You wobble on your feet. The stress what happened to you and the gut punch of seeing Aya horrified is too much for your tired, stressed body. You black out.

"How long has it been?" you question, trying to get a bit more out of her. "You spent most of the day out" Aya answers in a wavering voice. Hitting a wall in conversation, you sit there.

Aya turns around, seemingly having composed herself enough for what she's going to ask. "I guess this is goodbye then. You can't stick around me anymore" You can't bring yourself to answer her. Aya's mask of stability cracks, and the flood the emotions she's been holding back floods out. "Look at what they did to you! They only did it because you got involved with me! But I did the same to you, maybe worse, and I never even tried to make amends for it! You've been through so much pain, all because of me!" Tears are freely flowing down Aya's cheeks now. "Anon, please. Forget about me. Leave. You need help after all I've put you've through, and I'm not the woman to fix you. I'll accept any punishment they give me, just do what you can to be happy You deserve better" Aya wipes her face on her sleeve and gets to her feet. "I'll get ready to take you back to the village, just get some rest" She takes the tray and leaves you in the futon with a lot to think about.

It's been a day since Aya punched Tsukasa, and the two of you in the War Room, formerly known as your living room to come up with ideas to fight off the dreaded Fox and Tengu Menace. A few of them had already been shot down. Aya's been been helpful in giving advice, but you get the feeling that this sort of thing hasn't been done been. Not really getting anywhere, you grunt in frustration and rub your temples. "I just wish the tengu weren't so stubborn about this sort of thing"

Aya nods along before her eyes widen. she bolts upright "That's it!" before you can ask what she means she flies into an explanation. "They're been hoping we wouldn't tell anyone about this because we'd also have to reveal how'd we got in this situation in the first place, and that would be bad for us, right?" Aya pauses, but doesn't give you enough time to answer. "But what if we found another angle? More blackmail and dirty secrets of theirs? We could use this to force them to give up or lose face, and your secret would be safe! It's perfect! It's just what a reporter would do!" Aya's clearly feeling a fire inside of her and she has that grin of hers that she would sometimes flash during your time working with her. The grin where she thought she was on something big, something that could get you two in hot water. You definitely were in hot water this time, but Aya didn't even seem to care at all, in fact she was the most excited you've seen her in a long time.

The good thing is it'll be just like when you worked for me, just with no pay," Aya smiles a bit at her joke then pauses and frowns as if she has has to mull over what she has to say "Maybe if we get out of this and can return to our lives, we what comes next. What the future of us will be, you know?" Aya steps away from you, the atmosphere making it seem like she still has a lot left to say. Muttering a "Good Night" she heads off to her own Futon, Feeling tired as well, you go off to sleep.

The investigation started early next morning. Most of the furniture and paper left in the office was now laying in ruins in the remains of a bonfire. One that was started out of bored, judging by the empty sake bottles and food dishes carelessly piled up around it. Aya clicks her tongue. "I knew there were going to do something like this, this is going to cost a fortune to fix up. Come on" Aya clips inside, careful to avoid the bits of glass. Following her inside, the interior isn't much better.Someone had knocked a few holes in the walls, and the framed photos and articles Aya had decorating them were now useless piles of wood, glass and paper. Someone had also taken the liberty of pouring a few cans of paint all over the wooden floors, which Aya noticed "Paint on hardwood, now they're playing dirty! Do you know how hard that is to clean up?" Grumbling to herself, she moves over to a spot near the wall where her desk once stood and crouched down to mess with something. With a soft click, she opened up a compartment hidden in the floor and pulled out a spare camera, and notebook and a few other things."Knew this would be useful someday. Always helps to prepare. No use sticking around here, someone could be back at any moment and we've got more important things to do then start a fight. Let's get going."

Aya starts to walk towards the other walls of the manor. "Besides, one thing I learned is that in order to solve an incident , you have to go right to the person causing it. Good thing we can skip all the underlings." She reaches the wall and holds out her arms, expecting you to go towards her and let her fly you over. While still hesitant, you let her fly you off and set you down in the garden beyond.

"Now I figured we could just find our way in and find some evidence that could led her to back off from us." Aya says, trying to find a neutral way to describe to describe how her plan is to break into the house of one of the power players of Gensokyo and blackmail her. "We'll have plenty of time to look around, and most of the servants should be gone. I'll just look for an opening to get in, you stay here Anon"

You're on high alert for anything that might signal something wrong, a scream of Aya's, a guard running around the corner, but there is nothing. Aya soon returns to you.

"I don't see any activity in there, so as long as we don't cause a ruckus we should be fine. I found a way in, come on" Aya scoops you up and flies you over to an open window on the upper floor. With a bit of fumbling and work on Aya's part, you manage to wiggle your way into the room and fall to the floor. Garrett, Master Thief you are not. Aya climbs in after you. You look around the room and find it to be a bedroom, and you have a good idea whose it is.

"Might as well look around here" Aya says as she fiddles with her camera. "It was open already and there's no harm in looking around here" The two of you sneak about the room, looking for anything really. You peek behind a wall scroll, half-hoping there would be a secret behind it "Hey, don't play around, this is serious" Aya chides you as she loots through her boss's dresser. Opening a drawer, she mutters to herself "Really? How tacky" Despite this, she still takes a picture of whatever she found. The both of you rummage through the bedroom. There are no dairies in which she explained her evil plan, no hidden entrance to a tengu rape dungeon, no schematics for a super-weapon. The worst you could find was a tucked away copy of an tacky erotic romance novel. While amusing, her interesting choice of fetishes wasn't going to cut it. You needed more. Aya waves you over to the hall "She should have some sort of office or archive room. If she's keeping anything incriminating, it'll be in there"

You sneak through the house, looking for the archives. A few rooms later, you come across what you're looking for. It's certainly impressive, a two story library and office crammed with shelves. The central area of the second floor is entirely free, allowing you to peer down to the floor below. It's a intimidating to think you might have to look through all of this for evidence, but then you eyes notice something tucked away in the corner. A large safe sits there, and if there's anything you should check up first it's that. The both of you head over to examine it, Aya giving it a few good knocks "I can't rip this thing open, we're going to hope they left the combination somewhere" The both of you spend a few minutes searching the area around, looking on the floor near the safe and checking the desks, hoping they left some kind of clue. You're on the other side of the room as her, near the doors when you notice them open. Tsukasa is standing there, looking surprised at you being there. But that look of surprise soon turns into a look of glee, like a kid who found a classmate or sibling doing something they shouldn't and is very keen on getting them in trouble for it.

Opening a drawer, she mutters to herself "Really? How tacky" Despite this, she still takes a picture of whatever she found. The both of you rummage through the bedroom. There are no dairies in which she explained her evil plan, no hidden entrance to a tengu rape dungeon, no schematics for a super-weapon. The worst you could find was a tucked away copy of an tacky erotic romance novel. While amusing, her interesting choice of fetishes wasn't going to cut it. You needed more. Aya waves you over to the hall "She should have some sort of office or archive room. If she's keeping anything incriminating, it'll be in there"

You sneak through the house, looking for the archives. A few rooms later, you come across what you're looking for. It's certainly impressive, a two story library and office crammed with shelves. The central area of the second floor is entirely free, allowing you to peer down to the floor below. It's a intimidating to think you might have to look through all of this for evidence, but then you eyes notice something tucked away in the corner. A large safe sits there, and if there's anything you should check up first it's that. The both of you head over to examine it, Aya giving it a few good knocks "I can't rip this thing open, we're going to hope they left the combination somewhere" The both of you spend a few minutes searching the area around, looking on the floor near the safe and checking the desks, hoping they left some kind of clue. You're on the other side of the room as her, near the doors when you notice them open. Tsukasa is standing there, looking surprised at you being there. But that look of surprise soon turns into a look of glee, like a kid who found a classmate or sibling doing something they shouldn't and is very keen on getting them in trouble for it.

Any other wise remarks Tsukasa might have had are knocked out of her mouth when Aya punches her in the stomach. "You're lucky it would be too much trouble to kill you, so don't run your mouth off like that" As Tsukasa wheezes and tries to recover, your attention is once again drawn to the safe in the corner. Tapping Aya on the shoulder you point it out. Getting what you mean, she returns her attention to Tsukasa "We do have another reason to keep you breathing. We want to see what's in that safe, and you might know the code to get in. Now, could you please open it for us?" Tsukasa only bares her sharp teeth and growls in response.

But your lower brain, that lifelong companion and friend during the loneliest nights of your life, makes his approval of this plan very clear. You look at Aya's grinning face again, then down at the hate-filled face of Tsukasa and you remember all the things you did to the both of you. You can't just bring yourself to argue. Then you notice Aya is back in front of you. "She'll live, but she won't wake up for at least a few hours. Probably. Take those papers, we'll look at them back at your place." You grab everything you can find in the safe and follow Aya back to the way you came in.

Once you're in Megumu's room, Aya gives you a mischievous smile. "Ah, Hey. Anon, you think you got another round or two in you? You can say no if you want, but I couldn't help but feel left out when I saw you punish her. I was thinking you want want someone to wash the stink off the fox off of you." Aya leans in closer, her smile widening. Your heart pounds in your chest as your grasp the documents to your chest and follow Aya as she leads you to a point where you can fly away without being spotted. If you were to be found out now, there would be no mercy for you. Either to to Aya's skill, luck, or both you manage to avoid detection and reach a secluded area that allows Aya to fly you back home. All the way, you grasp onto the documents as tight as you can.

You reach home without trouble and get to work immediately, pouring through the documents. One of the skills you gained while working with Aya was the ability to process information and find the most important parts. Months of proofreading and going through old reports for information would do that. You go through what you have, and then a pattern forms. This a deed to a pottery shop. This is a deed to that one restaurant you and Aya went to sometimes, written to the same person. A deed to a grocers, quite a few houses, and a carpenter's shop. A pile of deeds, all for places in the village, all written out to the same person, and all found in Megumu's safe. Could it be? You rummage through the documents, looking for the missing piece of the puzzle. You find a letter, written by the mysterious deed owner addressed to Megumu, explaining how things are going and asks for advice on what to do next. It all clicks. "Aya look" you say as you hand the letter over to her "I think she's using a middleman to buy up places in the village, is that even allowed?"

Aya reads through the letter and squints her eyes. "Well officially, we're not supposed to meddle in the affairs of the village" she says in a tone that betrays that she's meddled in the affairs of the village many times "But this is on another scale. If she were to buy up a big chunk of the village, she'd be able to leverage that for whatever she wants. If the other tengu were to find out she was doing something so bold, or if others were to find this out, she'd be in serious hot water" Aya looks through some of the deeds. "I'm sure if we investigated, we'd find some dirty dealings behind how she was able to buy these properties and find out about her network, but this alone is enough" Aya stand up beaming. "All we have to do now is take some evidence and confront her with it, she'd have to let us go free then. In a day or two she'd be back from her secret hideaway with the other ruling tengu, we'd have plenty of time to get read" But then, like she was hit with a splash of ice-cold water, her expression changes. "But that also gives them time to get ready for us. They'll know we broke into her house and stole from her, and assaulted her aide. They'll want to kill us. It'll be too dangerous for you, and if Megumu were to have something up her sleeve I-"

You're close to finishing this for good, and Aya is faltering. It's hit her that she's going against the society she's lived in all her life, and things could get bad. She just needs a little encouragement. You get up and hold her hand. "Aya, you can do this. You're not the type of woman to back down when there's something to be done, and this could be the biggest scoop of your career. I'll come with you Aya, I know you can protect me and this is something we need to fininsh together" Aya looks up at you as if she wants to protest, but opts to just rest her head on your shoulder instead. In just a few days. this all would be over, one way or another.

Preparations are made. A course is plotted through tengu territory, supplies are packed, and the decision is made on who will hold onto some of the evidence you gathered while you went out to confront Megumu. It had to be someone who wouldn't use the blackmail for their own purposes, who you could rust to use it probably, and who had the connections to spread it. After some consideration, you both agreed Keine would be a god choice. Feeling it would be too much to explain to her in person, you enclosed some of what you have in an envelope along with instructions on what to do. Writing a note explains it should be opened if she hears for neither of you again, you leave it in her mailbox. Now it's only incredibility suspicious then outright revealing.

Finally the day arrives. As you're making last minute preparations and rechecking everything, you can't help but feel like you're going to land on the beaches of Normandy, although part of you wishes you where there instead. Aya gives you her best smile, although it's very clear she's just as nervous. "So this is it, huh?" she adjusts the strap on her camera, nervously. "I guess we just have to move forward and clean this mess up before it gets any worse. Who knows, we might get to live and keep tengu society from collapsing under a scandal" she attempts to chuckle at her joke, but her heart just isn't into it. With nothing more to be said, the two of you go to the outskirts of the village and set off.

You land in a forested area not too far from the tengu settlement, in a area where the patrols don't go that often. Aya carefully leads you forward, obviously using senses or abilities beyond ours as sometimes she'd make you double back or take a detour when she seemingly detects something. Finally, Megumu's manor is within sight. Aya leans in to whisper to you "Anon, when I tell you to, run as fast as you can. We'll meet up later, like we discussed." You nod back. Stepping out and moving at a leisurely pace towards the manor to conserve energy, humanoid shapes burst out of the surroundings, behind trees, behind buildings, and make their way towards the two of you at incredible speeds. They were waiting for you. "I'll hold them off, run!" You run, dead set at reaching your goal as soon as possible. ignoring the battle going on above your head. You ignore the wind being displaced by the combatants, and the sounds and lights of magical attacks being fired. Any other time this would be an amazing sight, but you have better things to do. You reach the back gate and fumble in your pockets for the sigil Aya gave you. You remember the instructions she drilled into you. Stick it to the door, tear off that little bit of paper, and move far away. Even a human with no magical ability could do it. As you run away from the door, it's not long before a powerful force of wind blows it off it's hinges, and you run in, hoping Aya is okay. .

You make a dash for the first door you see, hoping to get inside the manor before someone saw you. Trying the door, you find that it's unlocked, thankfully sparing you another magical depth charge. Once you get inside, you take a moment to catch your breath. You had to reach Megumu as quickly as possible. Sure, you broke a few taboos by being with Aya, then you broke into her house and assaulted her assistant, then you stole valuable documents from her so could blackmail her, but you hoped she would be understanding enough to listen to you. You went through the house, trying to get your bearings. You've never had the chance to fully get used to the layout of this place, and there was no time to take a tour.

You start to sneak through the manor, looking for any sounds of trouble. The plan you had made suspected that most of the guards would run out and fight Aya rather then sit in the manor, but there was always the chance of a fee remaining behind. You hold the bag with the blackmail material close to you, as if it'll fly away at any moment. As you step into a hallway, you hear footsteps approaching. Ducking back into the room you came, you hide in closet, ducking between piles of linen and leave the door open a crack. You hope they won't hear you and go away. As you spy through the door crack, you see Tsukasa uneasily hobble into view. She looks around the room, sniffing for something. Then her gaze meets the closet you're in and she makes her way towards you. But the time you decide to scramble out of the closet and get away, she's already there. She grabs you by the collar and hurls you to the floor.

You back up and look around to see if there's any avenue to escape. The only doors out of here are behind her, and you're sure she could catch you. You try to think of something, anything when you bump against a small table. You look back and see a small sturdy statuette there. A light in your brain turns on. Enemy. Object. Throw. You snag it and before she can react, you toss it directly at her. Your desperate throw hits true, and the statuette hits her square on the chin. As she yelps out in pain and stumbles back to rub her chin, you bolt out of there. You need to find Megumu. Hopefully even Tsukasa wouldn't dare kill you in front of her boss, or at least ask permission first.

You run around, trying to figure out where she would be. Megumu's bedroom? She might be too busy to be resting there. The meeting room where you first meet her? That's a good possibility. You rake your brain to remember where that was as you run into the entrance foyer. Now if you could just retrace your steps. But you hear the thudding of footsteps behind you, and you turn around just soon enough to see Tsukasa leap off the ground in a tackle.

She puts a surprising amount of force into it despite her small size, and she knocks the wind out of you and sends you to the ground. She wraps her hands around your throat. "You need to learn some damned manners, human" she spits that last word out with extreme venom "By the time I'm done with you, you won't be able to think without my permission! But for now, punishment" Her hands start to squeeze. Your brain starts to panic to being denied oxygen, and you can't push her off with the vice grip she has on your throat. Just when things start to fade out, she releases her grip for a few seconds to allow you to breathe, then starts to strangle you again. She's not interested in killing you, just making you suffer. You failed Aya, you got caught, as a captive they'll put an end to your little rebellion. Wait, Aya. An idea flashes in your mind. When Tsukasa releases her grip again, between the gasping for air you slip a hand in your pocket and pull out the magical breaching charge. Steeling yourself, you stick it on chest and pull the bit of paper off.

With a surprised and pained yelp she is sent rocketing up to the ceiling, which she meets with a wet crack. Gravity pulls her downward for the finishing blow and she lands on the floor ungracefully and no doubt painfully. You're not feeling too well either. Going up to someone and explaining that all the crimes you committed against them were for a good reason and that you were also going to blackmail them was a hard thing to explain in most cases, especially when that someone had so much power over you.

The mood in the room shifts severely. Megumu goes silent, and it seems like the room is brimming with come kind of energy that could go off at any moment. The silence is broken my Megumu "You. Wouldn't. Dare." she sneers, venom dripping from each word. "You'd throw all of our society into chaos, throw away everything you worked towards, all for a human? You're my subordinate , so you will do as I say. Understand?" Megumu has lifted the tripod off her shoulders and is pointing at at Aya. She flinches at the sight of it.

Megumu thinks about it for a few moments "Hmmm, If you're going to be stubborn about this, then I will need to force your hand. Better then the alternative, I suppose" She turns back to look at you, and you get the suspicion that whatever it was, it wasn't good for you "But this isn't a good deal for me, I barely get anything out of it and you get so much. You need something to sweeten things up for me"How about if I win this, you sign over everything you own to me and....." She puzzles over what to add, but then she turns to you and a wicked smile comes to her face "How about you be the one that carries out his execution? I'm sure that's a good enough punishment, no?"

Your heart sinks at this. Aya looks similarly horrified at the idea, but she can't back down from this. "I accept. Meet me outside the manor around sundown. Be ready" Megumu nods and walks off, chuckling to herself. Your knees fail you and you collapse on the floor. IN just a few hours, your future would be determined.

You're not sure what to say to break the tension. You simply choose not to say anything for now, opting to slide a bit closer to her. You're feeling oddly affectionate even with the looming doom over you head, or perhaps because of it. Aya waits for a bit, then closes the gap between the two of you, You just stay that way for a while before you decide to speak up "Well, I guess we should get ready then"

Aya looks at you, seemingly not wanting to let you go, but she gets up "Yeah, you're right. Come on" She gets up you go with her. Going back the way you came, you notice someone had removed Tsukasa from the foyer. She'd likely be cooped up in a bed somewhere. Even a youkai would be disabled for a while after she damage she took, so you're not too concerned about her coming back to get you. Aya points out a room to you "This is a room for guests to stay, you can stay there for now as I go off and get ready" Seemingly some sort of concern on your face, she continues "They're not going to kill you while I'm away, they need you alive. Just don't poke around too much. Bur first, can you listen to something I want to tell you, somewhere more private?"

You nod, and follow her exiting the manor. As she looks around to see if anyone is watching, she speaks up. "I know this isn't a good time, but this might be the last time I have to confess this" she gathers up all her courage before she speaks again, holding onto your hands. "Anon, you mean a lot to me. I've never known some of the things I've been missing out on until I met you, and know I wonder how I lived so long without feelings the things I've had. I know it's selfish to say this when I've caused so much damage to you and you might even die because of me, so please forgive me, but.." She looks at you with teary eyes.

The rest of the day passes far too quickly. The thoughts of Aya's confession occupying most of your time. You knew she liked you, she was doing all of this for you after all, but it hear it right from her mouth was still a shock. This was the sort of thing that would have turned a new chapter in your life, but here you are not even knowing if you'll live to see it or not. Feeling exhausted after a long day and not having much else you could do, you close your eyes for a bit.

When you wake up, the sun is setting in the sky. After soon time, there's a knock on the day and a tengu enters "Human, your presence is requested at the duel. It is right outside the manor." She then leaves you without a word. Giving yourself a bit of time to prepare yourself, you exit the manor and go outside.

You were not expecting this many people. It's mostly crow tengu, but you spy a few wolf tengu and kappas as well, along with other youkai you don't know. Some are sitting on the grounds, others are talking with each other, and some are lounging around eating. You guess the news of the duel quickly spread. As you make your way closer to the crowd, you notice some of them looking at you, or pointing you out to their friends, whispering to each other. They're probably saying something like "Look, that's the human that's going to get executed"

As you move towards the center of the crowd, they part ways so you can see the middle. Aya and Megumu are standing across from each other..Aya's gotten into a fresh set of clothing and has patched herself up a bit since seen her, but Megumu still looks very imposing compared to her. Aya looks over to see you, but averts her gaze away after holding it for a second. The tension is thick in the air. Then they take off, slowly enough so everyone, even a regular human can clear the way and give them space. Watching the sky after you've retreated with everyone else, you see the two tengu in the sky far apart from each other. Then it starts.

You've heard about battles that take place here in writing. You've seen photos of them taken by Aya. You've sometimes tagged along with Aya to see her practice for them. You were even close to one of them going on earlier today. But nothing could prepare you for this. Lights of all sorts of shapes and sizes and colors erupt from nothingness and begin to fly across the sky. Your head head spins just from just trying to keep track of it all. Even from here you can feel the wind being displaced for the battle, and the only time you actually can spot the combatants is when they pause for a moment for two before returning to an invisible blur.

You can't help but feel awed and humbled by the whole thing. This is what the residents of Gensokyo are capable of. You can only look on amazed, you can't even tell who has the upper hand. Your heart thumps in your chest. All you can do now is just hope that Aya can win, somehow. The fight embs and flows. Sometimes there's a few dozen projectiles filling the sky, sometimes there's hundreds. But like the quiet after a thunderclap, suddenly it all ends. The lights disappear from the sky and a figure floats to the ground. Even a novice like you can guess what has happened,. The fight was over.

The crowd starts to converge towards the descending figure. You need to see who lost, your life depends on it. You hear the other viewers muttering and whispering to each other as you squeeze through the crowd. Some of them to turn and look at you, their faces unreadable. Squeezing by a stone-faced wolf tengu, you find find the loser hoisting herself off the ground.

"How?" Megumu says to herself as she stands to her feet and finds her footing. "How could you beat me?" Aya doesn't respond as she is too budy catching her breath. A tengu standing off to the side steps forward to examine both combatants. Judging from her formal choice of robes, you assume she's a judge of some kind. She claps her hands to quiet down the crowd and adjusts her glasses.

"The duel is over. Winner: Shameimaru Aya!"

Silence reigns for a bit longer, then the crowd bursts out into a frenzy of muttering and gasps. You feel like a massive weight has been lifted from your chest. You look towards Aya to see how she's feeling, but she just waves you over. She leans on you for support when you arrive, her breath still ragged and her knees weak. This has been a tiring day for her after all. She waits to regain her strength as Megumu and the judge chatter on about something in private. Aya waits for them to finish before she speaks to Megumu. "I think we could use that apology right now"

Megumu glares at her with a look that could have turned Medusa to stone. "Here? Right now?" she says she she looks around to the crowd. Aya nods, a small smirk forming on her face. Megumu grunts and moves forward a few steps. She gets down on her knees and bows her head. "I, Iizunamaru Megumu, have wronged you and I have failed in my duties as a Daitengu. In order to right the wrongs against you, I promise to pay for all the damages I have inflicted against you and..." she swallows, as if what she was going to say would make her sick "you have my word that no further harm will come to you or the human. I will allow him safety as a guest of the Tengu"

If this were some kind of children's movie, the crowd would go wild at this and break out in applause. But there's only a lone "Yeah!" that's quickly hushed up. As the crowd starts to talk among themselves, Megumu gets up, walks over to Aya and whispers something into her ear before making a quick exit with the judge. With everything over, the crowd slowly starts to disperse and you and Aya make your way to a quiet spot under a tree away from the eyes and ears of everyone. "What did she tell you?" you ask Aya as the two of you rest under the tree.

"She told me to never expect anything from her every again and that if we ever step out of line she'll be sure to punish us" Aya says with a shrug. "But I wouldn't worry too much. With her position as a Daitengu and her and as a loser of a former duel, she can't break her promises without losing a lot of face. Besides, if she has tries anything underhanded, we still have the blackmail on her. We won" She flashes you a genuine smile. "But I'm exhausted, we can worry about the future later"

The first order of business it to return to the village to freshen up and drop off a few things. While there you also visit Keine and ask for the blackmail envelope back. A quick flight later, you arrive. You've never actually been inside Eientei before, but having businesses here now a rabbit allows you entry. What follows is similar to the other doctor visits you've had in your life. You fill out a few forms then wait for the doctor. Eirin then finishes up her other duties and arrives for your examination. She's professional enough to not probe too deeply on how you got the many injuries you gathered recently. After an hour or two of probing your body and using tools you couldn't even begin to understand, she comes up with a diagnostic.

"Your throat has no permanent damage, and seeing as you can already talk and swallow with no major problems, it should recover with no issues. The bruising on her ribs is a more serious matter. I want to take it easy. Don't put any stress on it, take the medicine I'll prescribe to you, and have plenty of rest. You can stay here overnight in case there are any complications." With that, the doctor wished everyone good night and finished up her business as she went to bed.

But you couldn't sleep just yet. There was so much to think about, and the rush of everything you experienced today. You don't want to lay in bed, so you slowly tiptoe out of bed to not wake the other patients and make your way to a porch. You stay there for a while, looking at the night sky and the bamboo stretching far, far into the distance. Other then the occasional hum of an incest or cry of an animal, it was silent. You had won, you could now live the rest of your life now. But so much had changed in the last few weeks that you weren't sure what kind of life if would be. You were so caught up in everything that you never thought about what would come after. As if the universe were reading your mind, the door slides up and Aya joins you up on the porch. She lets the silence continue before she speaks. "Would now be a good time to talk about the future?"

This has been a long and exhausting day by any standards, but you need to hear this. Putting off sleep for a little bit longer is better then spending hours tossing and turning and waiting for Aya to come back to clear the questions floating in your mind "Go ahead, Aya"

She leans forward on the railing. "Do you remember how we first met? You wrote in a letter to my newspaper" You nod, it was funny to think something so simple would change your life so much. "To be honest, you were one of the few people that actually wrote a serious letter in. Most of the letters I got were complaints from people that disliked me for one reason for another. I guess that's why I wanted to meet you, to see what kind of person would have anything positive to say about my newspaper" she subs her arm and looks away guiltily "But at first, I just saw how I could exploit and use you, so I did some awful things. It's just how tengu were supposed to use other species, after all. But as time went on, I felt like my heart was twisting in my chest when I thought about you hurting and just being with you felt right to me.I wanted that feeling to last forever"

She gazes up at the moon. "But it couldn't, because of me. Despite everything that happened to you, you still stuck by me and even risked your life for me. So now that this is all over, and we can think about what comes next, can I ask you to still be by my side? You can work at the Bunbunmaru again, and since you'll work there full time, maybe you want to move in with me? I have plenty of space in my house"

You don't have to give it much thought. Dropping out after everything you've done with her was not an option, and moving in with her seemed to be an upgrade. It would make it easier to get to work, and it seemed like this would take your relationship to the next level. With the word of a Daitengu, your safety would be of little concern in tengu territory. You only have to say one word. "Sure"

The good ending is actually anon imaginating it all, he is unconscious and imaginating it as life slips always from him after aya lost and ha to kill him.

Aya lights up in glee, but is too tired to start plans immediately. She just wishes you good night and flies off to her own bed. Feeling similarly exhausted now, you head off to your own hospital bed and quickly fall asleep. The next morning, Eirin runs a few more tests and gives you the green light to leave. "As long as you follow my directions and check back with me so I can check your progress, the injuries should heal completely. But if you want my personal advice. I'd advise you seek a less adventurous lifestyle" Her tone tells you she figured our at least part of the circumstances that brought you here. Thankfully for her, you had your fill of adventure for a long time.


After being discharged, the next few weeks are a blur of activity. You have to pack up your things, then sell your house, and smooth things over with the tengu officials, and most daunting of all explain that you're moving to certain individuals. Thankfully Aya is a master of white lies, so things go pretty smoothly. The last on the list is Reimu herself, can;t have her getting any wrong ideas about you vanishing from the village. Aya explains to her that it's more useful for you that you live closer to your workplace (True) that the tengu officials support you being there (It's more like tolerate, but it's close enough) that it would help get the residents of Youkai Mountain get used having more friendly contact with humans (She's betting on a small chance here, but it could happen) and that there's no reason to worry about you (Reimu is way too late for that)

Reimu looks at the both of you, suspicious. Her eyes flicker back and forth, as if hunting or any weakness. Then as if a switch were flicked, her face returns to the same neutral, slightly grumpy expression she always carries "Well if the Tengu officials are okay with it and you'll look after him, then it should be fine. Just don't think I'll fly all the way over there to help you" she says, as if suddenly deciding this wasn't her problem. As soon as you get out of earshot of her, you breath a sigh of relief.

It's not too long before your new life begins. With the generous funding of Megumu, the Bunbunmaru offices are repaired to be even nicer then before, and could even be redesigned with two people in mind. Moving into Aya's house takes a bit more effort, but with a bit of cleanup and unpacking your're able to settle in.

You adjust to your new life on the mountain. You get used to the different weather and the atmosphere that comes with living on a mountain, and are able to find your way around the tengu settlement soon enough. The other tengu even eventually get used enough to your presence. By then, knowledge of your relationship with Aya has spread far, that big blowout with Megumu meant it couldn't be stopped. Much to your relief, it seemed like once most people got over the surprise, they accepted it.

You're at home with Aya as she goes through some of the household expenses. You serve her the tea she wanted and she waves for you to sit down "Anon, I've been going through the expenses, and we've been doing great lately. If things keep going this well, we might be able to support a third member in this household. I'm sure Megumu would understand." She flashes you that familiar cheeky grin of hers.

You really choose one hell of a woman to fall in love with, didn't you?

I want to thank everyone for reading this and their support. I've written a few greenetexts and one post stories here and there, but this is my first time actually sitting down and writing a long story to completion. I learned quite a bit while doing this and it was enjoyable as well. I'll edit this up and put it on A03 when I have time, and drop the link when it's ready.
