/jp/ - Otaku Culture

Encompasses Touhou, VNs, Akihabara news, and etcetera that we talk about all the time.
It will create a clear direction of the board and will stop the "Japan/General" 's ambiguity from making people post threads that clearly belong in their respective boards just by the fact that it is related to Japan.

I welcome the change.

This.

Whether what belongs in a board becomes determined by the inhabitant's interests. /v/ doesn't respond to touhou threads despite being a video game, they'll get a lot in jp. /jp/ doesn't respond to final fantasy threads despite it being japanese, they'll get a lot in /v/.

The problem with Japan/General was that people would force threads that other boards would readily discuss (learn a language, discuss a shounen anime) solely because of the board title. Otaku culture doesn't limit or liberate any thread, it just keeps people who don't know /jp/ from jumping in and causing a mess with people going GTFO and THIS IS JAPAN RELATED.

I have absolutely no clue whether your agreeing or arguing with me, but:

>/v/ doesn't respond to touhou threads despite being a video game,

This is not true. I've seen plenty of Touhou threads on /v/ get discussion. And Touhou isn't anymore "weeaboo" or "otaku" than games like SMT/Persona and Disgaea.

By your logic though, if obscure [insert anime/manga] is ignored in /a/, should it be allowed here too?

It's just still too vague. You stil have too many people still trying to exert their will over what is related and what's not. It shouldn't be this big of an issue.

>The problem with Japan/General was that people would force ...

It really doesn't matter if there's other boards on that topic. People readily discuss it here too, more actually. On the topic of anything Japanese related, you are going to find more people on /jp/ who are knowledgeable than you would on /int/ or /trv/. There is plenty of content here on 4chan that applies to multiple boards.

You're speaking as if it wasn't really clear with Japan/General. It was very clear. moot himself has said it. This board was not supposed to be just for Touhou. Of course not. The board is for Japan related shit in GENERAL. Touhou sparking the board creation does not change this. The problem ware people who decide to go into threads and complain anyway. They are the idiots who are the cause of the mess. The ones trying to make /jp/ their own secret club where Touhou and Visual Novels only are allowed.

As I see it the main problem ahead of us now are the overlaps with /a/ and /v/.
People from the outside always say that we're already superfluous and totally colliding with /a/ and /v/, but actually the separation is very distinct. Very rarely do we ever see a late-night anime or industry/console game (that isn't a galge) thread, and when we do they're quickly attacked.

How will that change if we're to really be the "otaku" board? Are some "otaku" anime ok to discuss? Or are we still going to be just the Touhou/Translated VN/Mahjong board?

Otaku Culture has basically been what /jp/ has made itself to be.
Anime, Manga and Games has always been a part of Otaku culture, but there were already boards dedicated to such discussions.
However real Otaku topics never worked in those boards and the split clearly demonstrated that.

I assume that this will be able to go on as it has, just with a minor modification to the name, making it more appropriate to what /jp/ really is.
/jp/ has never been about "Japan/General" so this change is actually fitting and I don't think that people should look too deep into this.
