I found myself in a mysterious forest, confused to my whereabouts as I have been walking for what felt like days, that was until I found myself at the gate of a large mansion. at the gate a beautiful lady in green was sleeping while standing, I attempted to get her attention by talking to her but to no avail so i went to poke her cheek to wake her up and ask for directions. instinctively the lady did a uppercut and and repeatedly hit me with her long legs while i was still in the air, all the while she was still asleep. in my last moments all i heard was the sound of a bubble pop and a "huh wazzz that?".

Eh, i'd guess i could fine some actually good stuff if i really tried, but i like the amateur-ish works. Some are passion projects that just have some skill gap, some are ironically funny, and the good bunch left is cancer.You never know, and it's part of the fun.

I wrote a 143K word Touhou isekai smut fic. I didn't originally intend it to be that long. It was written to fulfill a request, and the requester liked it enough that they wanted more, and I kept extending it. I think it's better toward the end, both because my writing skill improved over the years, and because by then I knew it was going to be long so I made it less episodic, but even the early chapters are high effort. It includes niche kink (by request) that I wouldn't have included if I'd known it was going to be so long, but light enough that some people who don't share those preferences enjoyed the fic anyway. "Ordinary Librarian" on AO3 if anybody is interested.

I have a "human isekaied to tengu drinking party" fic stuck in my WIP folder that I might complete some day. It's piss kink, and won't be nearly as long as Ordinary Librarian, so I don't expect it to be popular. Other than that, I became somewhat disillusioned with Touhou. It's hard to escape the feeling that Grimsokyo is canon, and I don't enjoy writing that.

Now I'm not at work I can actually answer you. I did actually really like the effort you put into worldbuilding and making the non-smut parts of the plot work.

I actually enjoy writing the non-smut parts more. I feel like I have to include smut or I'm competing with mainstream authors and failing. I also think positive feedback is more likely to be sincere with smut. It's writing in easy mode, but even easy mode is difficult enough that I'm in no hurry to attempt non-smut works.

Some of the best advice I've got from other fanfic writers was just that people really don't expect fanfics to stick to the beats of canon 1:1. I for one put a few references to it in a couple fics (there's a remarkably thin line between certain darker takes on anon and Touhou femdom plots sometimes), but I've much more often established it as being not how Gensokyo works this time early on and then straight into the creative freedom that brings.

I get you. Been wanting to write something and hitting the mental wall of "is this even Touhou at this point?".
My only advice would be to just ignore that and write what you want. It's not like you lose your Primary Privileges™ for not liking how Touhou turned out to be post-SoPM.
