>when things like persistance hunting which is most likely how early humans hunted
persistence hunting is a meme and wildly criticized by anthropologists as popsci garbage
there are a contemporary couple of tribes that claimed to do it, but even those claims were spurious at best, one of which turned out that they just strolled and tracked the animal instead of persistent hunting

sv3rige went into this, and while he seems to talk out of his ass most of the time, he is right that the persistence hunting shit doesn't have any scientific backing beyond some shitty films and hearsay from tribes

we do, however, have overwhelming archeological evidence of stalking, trapping and ambushing being used as tactics during the stone age

>why else would we be the only mammals that evolved to have to ability to sweat
again, you are consuming more popsci garbage
the idea that humans are the only animals that can sweat is so fucking laughable, horses, zebras, donkeys and primates all sweat, so do cats and dogs (though to much lesser extend)
>is why i think it was probably what (very) early humans used to hunt before we got our big brains
you've got it the wrong way around, we evolved bigger brains precisely because the large game we hunted were physically superior to us
any fauna you're trying to "persistent hunt" is just going to run out of sight (humans are terribly slow compared to most animals, but you probably knew that) and you'll spend the next few hours trying to figure out where the fuck it is before you can epicly jog after it like the persistent hunter theory

so instead of expending calories by endlessly jogging after an animal until it exhausts, you could instead try to throw sharpened stones or otherwise ambush animals that are harder to startle because they're not used to dying to small animals like humans

>if you lack enjoyment you have a natural tendency to whitenoise it even if its comprehensible
yes i already said that enjoyment facilitates comprehensible input. it's not effectively comprehensible input for you until you've comprehensibly inputted it
>people are trying to difficulty sort their media all the time
good. if you have many enjoyable things lined up, then prioritizing the ones just above your level will make you waste the least time and effort
>you dont need to fight one snake oil with another
it's not snake oil, it's just a simple statement of what leads to language acquisition
>well if u stop enjoying the process cuz ur chasing "muh comprehensible input"
how is that even possible? doing unenjoyable emersion over enjoyable emersion is the opposite of chasing comprehensible input because it'll lead you to emersing less and paying less attention, which all means less comprehensible input in the end.
the problem here isn't with chasing comprehensible input itself but with doing it badly

You don’t need to fully understand most things to enjoy them. On top of that, you’re someone that has consciously chosen to learn Japanese. You want to know more of it. Right? You see a word and think “ooh I wonder what that means” and not “Oh god another word, wtf man” right?

There’s also things you can do to increase comprehension if that makes particular media more enjoyable to you. Watch anime with English subtitles. Read Japanese manga side by side with the official English translation. Your natural curiosity for the Japanese language will guide you to learn more of it while doing this, it never needs to be painful

And anyway you never answered my question, why are you learning in the first place? If your reason is wrong ur doomed anyway even if you succeed

I'm not interested in manga or anime. I study because I want to read menus, talk to the store clerk, enjoy conversation with the in-laws, etc. For a long time I found it frustrating how much study material is geared towards understanding anime rather than daily life stuff. Like the top words in manga is probably different than the top words my mother in law uses.

In a similar vein, I also found it strange how many tools were geared towards consumption of content and presumed that you were in the know, like I found it overwhelming trying to understand what a texthooker does by looking at the download page.

But I've come to the realization that the availability of japanese study tools towards anime/manga is because of the availability of printed content. I've also come to realize that even though I don't want to read manga, maybe it's useful since it's dialogue rather than expository content? Also to add to this >>45680446 if the slow pace makes you not enjoy it then try something else you can enjoy that’s easier. Surely you enjoy more than just 1 anime right? In fact i hope you fucking love anime because to acquire Japanese you’re going to have to watch thousands of episodes of it.

If you’re learning Japanese because you got rizzed up by One Punch Man, Death Note, Frien or whatever other handful of normie shit out there then you’re probably fucked.

The recent outsourcing to Korean animators has been so fucking bad. before even the faces had volume, there were cavities and shadows, a defined nose, lips, now in almost all anime it is a damn flat face, a dot for nose and a line for mouth, and I do not mention the male design, because there is a big gap and now it is difficult to distinguish who is male or female because they are the same

japanese datetime system is really retarded. they make you write your years with the era of the emperor. like heisei 8 being 1996
but they must have realized that this system is retarded because you cant predict the future? like nobody knows who will be emperor in 2030 so if you wanted to write a date for 2030 you cant use the era for the year

I guess if any of them are beyond my level I'll find out soon enough. The last time I tried learning Japanese I didn't watch any anime because I didn't want to sound like an anime character, and when I did I would pick something I already liked but always way over my level (like Bakemonogatari or Zetsubou Sensei). This time I randomly decided to watch Houkago Teibou Nisshi because I wanted to know fishing terminology. My plan was to do one episode a day but surprisingly I only paused a few times AND I actually liked it more than I expected so I watched 5 episodes in a row. Also, I never pulled up any English subs so it was the first thing I've experienced 100% in Japanese and only Japanese, which is a unique feeling.

I am just never going to make it, am I? I have tried doing this twice. Once, I quit very early. The second time, I did everything properly, but couldn't handle the grind. Eventually, I stopped. I was like halfway through the 2k deck, and I was reading through manga and JP subbed anime. But it was such a goddamn chore that killed any interest I had. It's 2 years later. I lost basically everything. All that time I spent learning grammar with Cure Dolly wasted. All the time I spent on Anki, wasted. Hell, I don't even recognize most Katakana anymore, that's how bad it is now. I really would have to start from scratch. I know damn well I am getting the same inescapable feelings of uselessness that made me want to learn in the first place.

Am I really going to go through this again? Am I really going to risk wasting hundreds of hours just to stop again? This is a topic that will never "click" with me, unlike something like Math. This is alien nonsense. This is torture specifically made for the monolingual monkeys like me. We have no reference for how learning a language is supposed to be like, and yet, I'm supposed to learn this RIDICULOUS puzzle of a grammatical structure and alien text pictures that only one country uses? On top of that, I have to put up with TINY FUCKING characters on these monitors of mine. For reading English, it's perfectly fine. But for these moonrunes? I have to increase the size of the text half the time. I don't wear glasses and am only 25. Why the fuck are these characters so tiny on the internet? What a cruel joke.

Please mock me relentlessly. I want any excuse to not look at this thread, so that I don't end up giving in and trying again. Fuck this language, and fuck the inner voice in my head making me want to try this torture exercise again

all part of the process bro. you stop now you may regret it later. it's why you're still here, right? you will get there, you just need to create a habit of doing it, commit to something small like 3 episodes of anime a day + 10k characters of a vn. at some point you'll get comfortable with it and increasing those numbers won't seems like a chore. the hill is steep initially, but it will get easier. try something from here to get you started https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1w42HEKEu2AzZg9K7PI0ma9ICmr2qYEKQ9IF4XxFSnQU/edit#gid=1215607333

Well wherever you believe ALG is a thing or not that's what he parrots, here's a resume from a comment

5 Principles:
07:59= #1 Focus on the relevant content of the language (master the learning tools)
08:49= #2 Use language from day one to communicate.
09:37= #3 When you understand the message, you unconsciously acquire the language.
10:31= #4 physiological training (understand what I hear)
11:45= #5 If you're sad, angry, upset, worried, you're not going to learn, period.

7 actions:
12:22= #1 I listen a lot.
12:43= #2 Understand the meaning first before the word.
13:31= #3 Shuffle (verbs, adjectives, nouns randomly) like children.
13:58= #4 Focus on the basics (1000 words are used in 80% of daily interaction)
15:22= #5 Get a language parent (practice and correction tutor).
16:29= #6 Imitate the gestures when pronouncing.
17:13= #7 Direct connection with an image. (Relate)

These principles of language learning have been understood since the DLI was founded in 1953. He's not saying anything new, nor does this method guarantee fluency in 6 months for any language, especially not Chinese. The best research we have on language learning comes from the DLI and they've observed that all category IV languages are "exceptionally difficult for native English speakers," with Japanese being marked "harder than the rest" of its category. These languages require a 64 week-long course just to be considered fluent.
