Twilight is escapist fiction where the Mary Sue protagonist falls in love with a super-vampire that has all of the traditional strength of vampires but none of their weaknesses except for the incessant urge to drink blood which said vampire must suppress to avoid killing said Mary sue. Together they go on crazy adventures and share a generic romance. There's already a VN like that but it's not called Umineko.

It really isn't. I know this is a troll, but a lot of people seem to actually believe this.

Like it or not, Umineko at least tries to do something clever and is in many ways convention defying instead of being a bastardisation of it's influences. Umineko also has the capability of being witty and is very often tounge in cheek, whereas Twilight takes itself FAR too seriously. It's one thing to dislike Umineko, but I'm tired of it being hated for something it isn't rather than something it is.

See this is what really bothers me. Even if you don't like Umineko, it's hard to present it as a less distinct copy of something else. Which is ironic since a lot of the haters would have liked it to remain entirely in the mode of Episode 1, in which case it WOULD have been little more than an Agatha Cristie tribute.

I actually would have preferred the Episode 2 mode, where one tries to force it in a detective story, rather than it being one.
That was actually intriguing, could provide commentary on the genre within the story while the mystery goes on, and while it lacks SPECTACULAR events for the most part, it does not go over the top and just mix everything.
