I am your brother here. I've tried this, more than once.

First of all, it's so finicky it doesn't even work with most players (computer ones) and even then the fucking retarded password feature doesn't work, so I'm not sure how you're supposed to pick up where you left off.

That's assuming that you can watch a scene without the subtitles randomly disappearing, and some of them are missing altogether.

At a certain point I said fuck it, although I want to watch it so bad.

It's especially odd seeing how your least favorite, and your favorite is by the same writer.
But still, Hanachirasu was great in my opinion. Best music, Akane is an S++ protag, and the manly fight ending was awesome. Also the twist with the sister was really great. Kaigen ending felt fake to me, even though I liked the little role she had apart of that.

It worked fine on VLC media player with me, just don't use the "next" or "previous" buttons since that will fuck things up. You can speed it up from the menu, too. If you need to skip, skip to the few last seconds of the current video and let it change to the next one by itself. I recommend taking all passwords up. The system is actually rather functional if you ask me, even if it feels a bit cranky. One thing for sure, it's better than the system in Hourglass of Summer!

And Hanachirasu and Muramasa are definitely very similar in several ways, well except that the author skill got a 1000% bonus or something.
And I agree about Akane, great protagonist, very refreshing to play.

For Kikokugai, I'm a big fan of the kung fu chinese movies from the 70's-90's so it helps I guess, add to that a cyberpunk setting and I'm sold.

You should play it on a real dvd player or even better on the PS2. It worked for me but I had stopped 5 hours in because it's annoying as some lines disappear faster than others and I wouldn't dare to try the rewind function ... so I always paused a new line but then the audio also stops.

I decided to go with the Claudia route in act one, which meant no matter what I did, I couldn't get beyond act two, despite doing the Cal stuff in act two.

I especially liked the twist with the sister and how she was Igarasu's bride-to-be all along whom Akane almost killed just before the earthquake. Brilliantly pulled off, and it gives an entire new meaning of the ending where Akane finishes his own life after he lost the only reasons to exist.
Kaigen ending was comedic instead, and it's not what I'd call important, despite liking her character.
