The reason why people stopped having kids anymore is because the once-solid foundation crumbled beneath them. If it takes college and overtime just to feed one mouth, how the hell are kids supposed to work out? My last decent job called me a "part time intern" despite me working there full time hours for over a year. All it meant was that I got no benefits of any kind, working conditions even left me too impaired to work at one point and there was no sick leave. When they sold the building I worked in they even blocked me from unemployment insurance (which was being deducted from my paychecks just like everyone else.)

I'd love to have kids. It's just that the city I live in has something like 20% effective unemployment - the real numbers are bigger than reported, I myself wasn't counted as "unemployed" because of creative book-cooking. The job market today in my area is down to fast food and grocery stores, which are hard as hell to get employment from because there are so many people and so few positions.
