Lets assume for a minute that a lone member of a Japanese holdout was just discovered yesterday (for those unaware, holdouts were Japanese soldiers from WW2 who were cut off from their commanders and communications and who were unaware that the war had been ended). He is brought back home to modern Japan after not seeing his homeland for well over 60 years. What do you think he would make of his country? Would he be proud or ashamed to see how greatly things have changed?

One faulty assumption you guys are making is that he'd still have his soldier mindset from 60 years ago. People aren't stupid; even if he doesn't know the war officially ended, he'd know that most wars in the century don't last that long, and certainly not 60 years. Not to mention that after a long time by himself, he probably stopped really caring about the war.

But more importantly, solitude does things to people, especially if it's for such a long time. Loneliness for him is something you who claim to be lonely can only fathom. No internet, no communication, no waifu. He'd probably be more a more extreme version of that guy from Outcast, talking to rocks and talking to imaginary friends. It wouldn't be surprising if he's forgotten a lot of Japanese at this point, having no one to talk to, and having no need for normal dialogue.
