All your income is disposable, you have lots of chances to meet people (school, the mall, your job, whatever). And not having a job when you're a teenager is not a big deal. If you think it's hard as a teen then you have no idea.

When you're past your early twenties it becomes almost impossible to make friends ever because everyone is married and works fulltime. Being a hikki is no longer something you'll "grow out of", you're a pathetic social deviant. If you don't have experience, both jobs and women start to become shut off to you for good.

Seriously it's the difference between Touhou on easy modo and lunatic. You could have a great life as a teen and still end up this way, but I feel bad for people who are willingly giving up all those nice things during the easy years.

Nope, I'd say early-mid 20s is the best. I'm 19 BTW.

If you live in a suburb it's harder to get around without a car, drivers licenses and the ability your shitty family can use that as a damocles, you have to be driven around all when younger (or get older friends/etc, which works as I know ive done that recently), you have to deal with more restrictions from your family with going out aand staying out all night if you have shitty parents, etc etc.

I live in a large city but I know how some suburban white hikkis can end up socially disconnected as I talk to them online/know some IRL.

I'm 19, and I'd say I'm better off in college than in HS. In some ways, in other ways I regret not doing other things (but that was due to shitty family)

Not him, but teenage years were shit being eighteen through current twenty one was my most enjoyable time being a NEET. I've been a NEET since sixteen. Early twenties depending on your situation is the best time to be a NEET. You're an adult so you can handle your own shit. No more "listen to your parents" or having adults try and give you shitty advice and treating you like a teenager or a child.

My childhood was enjoyable and very colorful, but in the end being an adult is better. I'm a NEET who lives on their own, so obviously I wouldn't want to be a teenager living with their parents.

I think I'll finish school by mail and try entering college, but our admission exams for our public universities are ridiculously difficult, almost on par with Japan. High school is when you're likely to become a true hikki because that's when you have to deal with like peer pressure and bullying (and in Japan, academic pressure) while society forces you to keep going to school and dealing with it (until some people can't put up with it and become hikkis). Once you're an adult there's nothing forcing you to do anything, so unless you have severe social anxiety disorder, you probably aren't a hikki. Being an adult NEET who doesn't feel like going outside/hates society isn't the same thing as being a hikki

26, office drone, no friends in ten years and counting. Back when I dropped out of college I didn't get to play at the shut-in lifestyle for more than two months until my dad made me go get a job. I wish I didn't have to leave my house, but I accrue my vacation time every year and take a three week vacation staying home to relive the glory, sleeping on an inverted schedule, playing video games and dicking around on the Internet.

I don't think there's really any way back for most people.

Almost 21 and in the final semester of my Commerce degree. Went to university to make my parents happy... but honestly I don't think I'll be to get a job with my degree because of my social anxiety. Can't wait until I graduate and take it easy going through my backlog of games.

I'm 27. Regular /a/, /v/, /jp/ and /lit/ lurker. Going through my second Master Degree atm while working as online tech support at IBM (shabby job, but I need the money...). Happily coupled but still a bit socially awkward. Still living with parents, though (housing is quite a complicated issue for young people in general due to recession).

Been here since 2004/5 (can't remember). Not planning on dropping it anytime soon since it's awesome.
