I just installed F/SN from the DVD, and I can get the game to start in Japanese via AppLocale, but when I try to install the English patch, nothing changes. Do I need to put it in a certain directory and keep a DVD mounted or something? What am I doing wrong?

Second, you can get voices in the VN from Realta Nua, but has anyone ripped the sound yet for an easy install vs. downloading the whole thing, or no?

are you installing it in the same directory that f/sn is installed in? you probably installed the English patch in another folder.

I couldn't uninstall F/SN from the Add/Remove Programs, and the AutoPlay menus that pop up whenever I mount the image doesn't uninstall the F/SN directory, and that won't let me install the patch, I think.

Whenever I try to run Fate.exe without AppLocale, I get an error box. I thought this wasn't going to be difficult. Any more ideas?

the default directory name for f/sn with a jap install is Fate／stay night the ／ requires jap unicode. so when you install it makes it fate-stay night or something for a fresh install. but if you already have it installed you point it towards the other folder or rename it to what its set to.

I renamed the folder with the Unicode into the English directory the patch suggested, installed the patch, and this is what I got when I ran Fate.exe

I don't know if I divided by zero or something, I'm trying to reinstall it, but fuck, now this is just getting insane.

The 'patch' isn't an actual patch, you don't install the game in Japanese. You run the 'patch' and install the game in English from there. You don't need a Japanese install.

I first installed Fate before there was even an English patch, and it worked fine when I patched the Fate route, so I know you don't need to reinstall. But that was on XP and I know fuckall about getting it to run on Vista.

I installed it using the 3CD version without being in Japanese local, I never screwed around with AppLocale. I remember getting that same blue text box full of gibberish when I tried to run it before I set my computer to Japanese local. Then the Fate route patch came out and I installed it, then promptly forgot about the game. Then the UBW patch came out, and since I already had Fate installed and the patch detected it the UBW route was patched without a hitch. So I dunno how to do it with the DVD, it might work like the Tsukihime patch like the other guy said, try uninstalling the game, then putting in the DVD and running the patch.

Fate won't show up on the Add/Remove Program window in Control Panel, and there's no Uninstall.exe in the game's directory. Can you uninstall the game through the mounted DVD image by selecting a certain option or something?

If the installation messed up than the game might not appear in your control panel. You can try reinstalling to a different folder if you don't want to lose your files. My game is in C:\Program Files\Fate and it works fine.

I dunno, try running the patch with applocale? Eschew applocale altogether and just put your computer into Japanese regional settings?

Oh, and the voice rip is on /rs/.

So will the English patch successfully run if your computer's regional settings are set to Japanese? I can install the game in any directory (both the default path and even when it's shortened to "Program Files\Fate") but it only runs in Japanese.

The patch doesn't seem to be creating any registry data.

I try to set the patch's path to the mounted DVD like suggested (simple E:\, since it's a virutal drive), but that doesn't cause the game's installation process to launch after the path finishes, so that doesn't seem to work.

Just delete your Fate folder, start the patch, follow the instructions, and don't worry about your locale. It's why Message took so long.
