I remember when I was a girl in Ireland there was a girl who lived in our village, such a bonny girl, much admired, and she took to touching herself. First she went pale, then she got dark circles under eyes, and people began to wonder, and then she went thin, and people began to suspect, and then she became a hopeless imbecile, because the jelly of her brain was melted by what she did to herself and flowed away, and then people knew for certain. Now she has to be handcuffed for 24 hours a day.

I'm working on the beginning stages of a VN right now. Originally the idea was a novel, but as I was combing through my rough draft I realized the content was much better suited for a VN.

So now I've got pages and pages of bubble trees trying to figure out how to plan the individual routes around two large events. I've been trying to work out the character sketches, but I have realized I have no fashion sense what-so-ever. (Pic would be example of this. I realize they have no hands or faces, I'm getting to it. Eventually.)

Meanwhile I'm wondering if anyone even cares about Origonal English Language Visual Novels that don't center around romance.

At this point in time learning Renpy is the easy part.

When you do that you are really cheating yourself, in terms of practice. Also, try drawing the whole figure, hands feet and all, instead of just drawing the bust.

Redlining just a face can be kind of tough given that so much can be passed off as stylistic choice or personal preference so long as things line up and are symmetric (unless you are trying to go for photorealism).

Here's a quick redline, I exaggerated the bit on the side in order to be more clear. I also avoided messing around with the face for previously mentioned reasons.

Me again. I just finished the part where they both have sex for the first time. There really isn't an ending written in yet. I also haven't went back and reread anything to see if it makes perfect sense. In the future I may add a few more encounters which end with the main character killing himself after realizing that no one will accept his love with a little girl who's constantly knocking on his window or near his house outside, always watching him, but for now it is what it is, especially since my back hurts from laying here so long.

It's 3,000 words so it'd be a hassle to post it here, especially with the text limit. I'll include a link at the bottom of this post if you'd like to download it, it's a .rtf file. Drawing, especially learning the technicalities of drawing, is super easy cause all it takes is practice. Just head over to /s/, find some pictures with good lights/darks (keep it classy), and draw away. Draw the same picture over and over again until you understand what makes it look correct and what doesn't, and you are happy with the outcome. Then move on to another picture and repeat.

Eventually you'll begin to break images down into basic shapes in order to draw faster, you'll figure out the basics of composition, of perspective, of line, you'll notice the relationship between lights and darks.

After a while your hand-eye coordination (which is about 70% of drawing "skill") will improve, along with your hand's muscle memory, and your strokes will be made more broad, confident. Your hand will move where you want it to.

Then, you will realize the remaining 30% of technical artistic skill comes from understanding your subject. Why does a human look the way he does, what does his skeleton look like, his musculature, etc.

Compared to something like writing, which for some reason everyone fancies as easy and a personal skill, which requires quite a bit of introspection (and innate talent) to develop drawing is a much simpler, brute force type of skill.

Yukari brings home music from the outside world, along with a large boombox. The tape turns out to be a mix of 70-80's hiphop, which sends Chen in to a "Street" phase. Shenanigans ensue with Ran's inability to understand the phase, as well as Chen's attempt to have Mystia cowrite hiphop.

I'm open to suggestions, of course

Why not use unlined paper, it would instantly make things look a bit nicer and it shows that you take what you're doing seriously.

I'm also guessing you are pretty young, as you've mentioned the whole "drawing since kindergarten" thing. What's important isn't how long you've been drawing but your level of dedication during that time.

Post something larger and on non-lined paper using a reference (to guide, not copy). Also be more ambitious with your pose and hide nothing. Things will be easier to critique then, as it is this is the best I can do.

It was a quiet evening in Mayohiga when Yukari, the gap Youkai, returned from another venture in to the outside world. She hoisted a small, rectangular box on to the bamboo floor of the household. Ran and Chen, her shikigamis gathered around, perplexed by the new device.

“So, whats this do? It’s not another back massager is it?” Ran, the motherly Shikigami asked. Chen reached up and hit on of the large, square buttons on the front. The cassette inside began to spin and the large circular plates began to blast sound

“A fresh El Camino rollin kilo G, he rolled down his window and he started to say, its all about makin that G.T.A.” A light voiced man vocalized.

“Wh...what is he saying?” Ran asked once more, even more confused after knowing the devices use.

“Isn’t it clear?” Yukari pushed the stop button. “It’s a device used to scare off wild animals, with sounds of vicious and fearsome predators.” The device started back up.

“Cause the boys in the hood are always hard, you come talkin’ that trash, we'll pull ya card” The same man echoed through the room. Chens finger pulled away from the play button, enjoying the drum beats accompanying the voice.

“Actually, I think it’s supposed to be music” Chen suggested. Yukari and Ran made no attempt to stifle their laughter, which was boisterous and louder than the still playing ‘music’.

>> No.6763293

>>6763284
“Please, music?” Yukari managed past the laughter “Of all things, music?

“I kinda like it!” Chen rebutted, annoyed.

“Fine, if you like it, heres what I found with it.” Yukari pulled a small pamphlet and a case from the purple gap she was sitting in. “The man I found it on also had this pack with him.” She pulled a heavy, ragged backpack from the gap, it’s foul scent assaulting the room. Chen clasped around Yukari’s voluptuous chest.

“Thanks Yukari-sama!” Her voice muffled with Yukari’s invasive rack. Ran flipped through the pamphlet, attempting to make sense of the words.

“I don’t know Yukari, it seems like a lot of gibberish, and what isn’t gibberish is inappropriate” Ran protested “This doesn’t seem exactly the best thing for her to listen to”

“Don’t worry Ran” Yukari reassured her “It’s just a phase she’ll grow out of in no time, you had your own if you recall.” Ran’s tails stood up in shock, recalling the days she listened to ‘Punk’ music, and considered herself ‘hardcore’.

“Y-yes, a phase, I understand” Ran slumped in embarrassment at the memories. Chen turned on the tape once more to hear the strident-voiced man, singing of criminal intent and violence.

>> No.6763302

>>6763293
A week passed since Chen discovered this new form of music. Like Ran’s punk rock phase, her clothes and appearance changed drastically. Her red dress turned in to a red hoodie, accompanied by loose pants. Her walk had also been changed to a stride of laze accompanied by odd hand signs. Her vernacular had shifted from a sweet little girl’s to that of the musicians she was emulating. Yukari had done little good that week to stem Chen’s behavior, giving her more cassettes and more information on the culture she was so determined to integrate in to. One movie she had studied in depth was Wild Style, leading her study in the hip-hop world. Combined with NWA and Run DMC, she spread her new-found culture to other residents of Gensokyo. Cirno, Mystia, Daiyousei, and Wriggle Nightbug joined with Chen in her Eazy-E inspired escapades, forming ‘Team 9mm’, also known as ‘blackaquartert’ each member chosen by a marking on the lower calf, resembling a spider or insect bite. The phase Chen had entered showed no signs of ending as abruptly as Ran’s, and with a group to revel in the sounds of Compton only bolstered her steadfast resolve in her ‘music.’

I'll work on/edit this up tomorrow, awfully tired and I'm sure I could make it better and there'll be a lot more than just this first part, expect there to be about 4,000 more words to this

>>6758944
i think a part of the reason for lack of older drawfags is simply the attitudes of each board. drawfags are much more common on boards like /co/ or /tg/, which could be due to size but also the general attitude towards such threads being more positive. /a/ itself has been struggling with the threads having too many or too difficult requests being asked for, and general circlejerking.

Lots of owls have ear-tufts! One of the ones I find particularly cute is Blakiston's fish owl (bubo blakistoni - one of the largest species of owl). The long-eared owl (asio otus) is less fluffy, and has tufts that look much more like ears. The striped owl (asio clamator) is also pretty cute, and some of the scops owls (i.e. otus bakkamoena, otus lettia) are too.

I've actually been working (idly) on a set of bird-inspired girls in the past couple of months... but I don't even have a remotely coherent sketch of the owls, so have some tits instead.

Good luck, I suppose. If you prefer drawing manga-style art I feel sorry for you, though, as I don't see it ever being viable outside of generating extra income as a hobby, and otherwise you'll be stuck drawing stuff you don't really like.

With the total lack of possible repercussions from pirating the Japanese manga industry and considering the industry's productivity, there's no way a manga-style industry could go anywhere outside of Japan. I imagine most people on /jp/ have enough content to satisfy them for years that they haven't even touched yet.

Not the anon you're replying to, but after reading your post I felt the need to respond with some advice.

I graduated from a design school just last year, have been drawing anime-styled artwork for some years now (I participated in many earlier drawthreads on /jp/ but haven't done so recently due to time issues)

Much like yourself, I have been studying from life much more over the recent weeks, and it has helped me considerably with all forms of artwork. I cannot stress how important it is to draw from life before you stylize, it's something /ic/ or CA will tell you every time.

Now that I have graduated from my studies, I feel it somewhat necessary to tell you a few things.

If you do plan on going forward with art as a serious profession, you will need to give up drawing anime-style, at least for a few years while you are learning. Once you have a good foundation, you can stylize however much you see fit, but until then, stick to studying.

As for anything design related, take on small projects, and really invest the time and effort required to make them good. This is not so much to get an amazing result, but rather, the harder you try, the more you will learn. Experiment and try new things, and that way when you need to build a portfolio you will have the skills to do so.

>> No.6765258

If you want to produce something more than individual drawings you people should probably get into indie game development. And I'm not talking just visual novels either, just games with animu-ish artwork. Or even just character art, or whatever. I make games myself, but I can't draw and my friend (who's the graphic artist for your stuff) can't really do anime-styled art, so projects just by us will probably never have animuish stuff, but honestly speaking, at least I'd want to do a game with cute girls in it, or at least animu-ish art in general.

For the record, third place is lyrebird, second place is superb bird-of-paradise. The best "show unusual animals to Japanese audience and watch their responses" show ought to be the one with the deep sea siphonophore (I think it's a Physophora species, but I could be wrong), though. I recommend that you just try sticking to a more realistic style with some animuish traits. Or something. Why the hell would a publisher want a "manga-style" something anyway?

Do you realize this is /jp/? There is a certain requisite knowledge one should have before posting here but since you were polite I will help. Start by looking at the filenames of the posted images.

Listing all the artists that are interesting would be tedious so just look on your own, like you should have been to begin with. Kotonoha typically translates interesting stuff so you could start there.

Also, as a real critique of your work, you need practice with very basic rules of anatomy and composition. I am speaking to you both as a technical artist and a comic artist, you need a lot of improvement. Not sure what sort of standards this publishing company has but your samples seem far from professional.

>Kotonoha typically translates interesting stuff so you could start there.

The guy gave you a very good place to start looking. You should not be using "mangas" as reference anyway, use images of real people and things to help with poses/anatomy as an aide. Comic and animation styles were developed out of necessity and are exaggerations of real life imagery, if you start using that as a reference you become too far removed from the source material, real life, and are nothing more than a parody of a parody, a real problem with the Japanese anime industry today. This goes for story-telling elements as well.

Get off your high horse, if you want more critiques of your work then post it but lose the demanding attitude.

it's a shortcoming in the audience as much as the artist--a lot of starting art, literature or whatnot will obviously be messy as shit but I guess I still feel there needs to be some sort of thing that most would call "raw talent" which in truth I believe is little more than the originality of the artist. Obviously one of the difficulties lies in rising above merely bad imitations--this burden lies on the audience's passive acceptance of preexistent norms and notions of art as well as the artist's struggle to create something with the meagre tools they possess (not only talent but the limitations of brush and canvas). It just bothers me that technically-proficient but otherwise uninteresting other artwork will receive serenades, merely perpetuating a system where one attempts to "perfect" a genre--interior to this try to find their own style within such notions, which isn't really a bad idea but not really one I can come to terms with.

Course I don't know shit about art lol.

These proportions are pretty horrifying. The torso goes forever and/or the limbs are too short. Look at some real people (or even yourself in the mirror, if you happen to be a little girl) and compare the relative lengths of the different body parts. Some real models will also help you see how necks, shoulders, chests, hips, legs, feet, arms, and wrists do not work that way.
