They're alright on their own, but they can be made awesome by adding stuff to them. A great deal of the weight of canned food is water weight. For the price of one tin of corned beef or a small can of corn, you could get three to six packets of ramen.

20g full of fat and other kinds of shit are still 20g at best. And most of that other shit is useless flavouring. Just calculate how much you pay per gram and then tell me it's cheap compared to canned food, fresh food bought in bulk or some frozen food.

Calories don't turn magically into vitamins, trace elements, carbohydrates and all the other necessary stuff. The charts with calories also list all that other stuff which should be inside the 2000 calories in a healthy meal. And when you can buy a pound carrots for 50 cent, then you have 1 more dollar for other stuff, which means probably 3 more pounds of all the stuff that is missing. So, 1.5 dollar will give you food for at least 2-3 days.

Also that pound ramen is probably just the noodles. Not with the vegetables you add to it (uhh... like Carrots). I don't think you are going to eat a pound raw noodles in a day.

And you can get a pound noodles for 1 dollar or less (30 cent).

Ramen isn't a cheap way to survive, your friends may think that and even you, but it's just crappy food and it's overpriced for what is inside.

I want to say again, in case somebody understood wrong, I'm talking solely about instant noodles when considered as cheap food for survival, because it's a myth which goes around everywhere in highschool and student circles.

If you eat it because you like the taste and how easy it is to prepare, then I couldn't care less. But if you eat it to survive, then you should switch fast, because the only thing you will gain from it is a headache and malnutrition.

The only reason it's so popular is because it's so easily accessible.
