>Dear Valued Customer,

>Your Ar tonelico Qoga order was one of a small number of orders that our warehouse shipped out as USPS First Class International (our most affordable shipping method), instead of the USPS Express International (our fastest USPS shipping method) method you selected. You may have already noticed this when you checked your tracking information. We understand that having your order shipped as quickly and carefully as possible is extremely important to you, so we have already re-shipped your item(s) with the proper shipping method. I am extremely sorry for the mix-up with your shipping and if you were one of the few people who receive a copy without an OST. Both of these errors were out of our hands and we are doing our best to rectify them, so we hope you won’t hold these issues against our Online Store or company in general.

>You will be receiving two duplicate shipments of the item(s) you ordered, which you are free to keep. If you decide you’d like to return one of the shipments, we ask that you only do so if it can be returned at little to no cost for you. For example, if you live in a country that will return refused items Internationally, you could refuse the second shipment. We can reimburse you for reasonable return shipping costs, but would rather have you just keep the items than have either of us pay to send them back.

I'd say AT1 is in the 30-35 hour range. AT2 is probably about 40 hours, give or take. Both, but especially AT2, can run a lot longer depending on how much of a completionist you are. If you're going replay them for all of the routes/endings, the branching point for the first game is about 1/3 of the way through the game, so it's not so bad, but the branching point for the second is practically at the beginning.

AT2 is by a long shot my favorite game in the series, and I'm not a big fan of the move to 3D myself, but I'm still very much enjoying the 3rd game by virtue of its story, characters and setting. It all still feels very unmistakably Ar Tonelico. For me, it's easily one of the more engrossing games on the PS3.

The combat pacing for AT3 seems really uneven to me. I find myself flipping between Normal and Hard since sometimes the enemies are sometimes woefully underpowered and other times absolute rape.

Well, there is song magic, but basically each heroine's persona has one song magic that they're set on, and they will only use that. Each heroine has 3 or 4 different personas, though (I've seen people claiming both numbers, and I'm not far enough yet to know which is correct) which you set from the equipment screen, and they will use a different song magic depending on what persona they are using. (The song magic will also level up to different forms depending on your purge level, though it won't actually evolve into a completely different one as in AT2.) Also, I'm not sure if healing or support song magic exist at all, all the ones I've seen have just been attack ones. (Though I've only used two personas of two characters so far.)

Was kind of a disappointing change for me, compared to the variety of song magic in AT2, but I'm finding myself enjoying the game anyway. As many have said, it still very much retains the old Ar tonelico feel.

I thought the story was kind of a mess for awhile. Not because it actually was a mess, but because I didn't have any information about what the fuck was going on most of the time. One of the nice things about Lyner and Croix was that they were in positions of authority; they had clearly defined missions and a decent grasp of the situation, and when they shared my confusion and wonder whenever things took a turn. Aoto's just some dirt farmer whose mission is GRR I WILL PROTECT SAKI and is completely oblivious to everything else, so when characters start spouting off asides about their secret missions and ulterior motives that I haven't the slightest clue about, it's just a bunch of cryptic nonsense. And boy is there a lot of it. I get why so much is left in the dark from a narrative standpoint and it does all make sense eventually, but I swear they must have been trying to pack as much MYSTERY in as possible, and it was pretty annoying. Now that I actually know what's going on I'm digging it, but it was kind of rough to bear with my (and Aoto's) ignorance for 2+ phases.

Sadly the game got about 2x as fun when I changed from hard mode to easy mode because the random battles are really boring. Even more than AT1 or AT2.
Using Doc to skill spam on red bars only to purge quickly and end the battle 10-20s earlier is crazy boring.
I'd rather just use the spoiler vanguard's melee + skill spam to end the battle in 10s and only purge 1 or 0 times on easy.

The crafting animations all suck, though. I always let the sessions in AT2 run full length because I loved watching Jakuri send that scimitar into the wall and whatnot. This game, not so much. Supermove crafting is particularly bad because they all just sit there staring intently at the floor.

I had fun with AT3, though I liked AT2 much more than 1 and 3. The extras menu in 3 is crazy though since you can see pretty much anything. The 6 special "beat up" -> triple purge -> wait until 1 shot % (25k or so for random encounters in hard mode) got boring quick though.

Question: Why is hard so ridiculous? I switched from normal to hard in the area where you pick up Fililun~ and I'm getting decimated by these wolf things. They one-shot Saki, Two-shot Tatsumi and Three-shot Aoto. I spend half the time in battle waiting for the menu to load so I can dole out 2-3 healing items necessary to fix the damage one hit from one enemy does to a vanguard.
A challenge is fine, but there's very little room for strategy beyond circlestrafing, so should I even bother with Hard?

>> No.7129764

>>7129631
Don't bother with hard the battle system really isn't worth it, but if you must here is the strategy I used for my first run:
prep: keep 99 of the weak heal item, use it to freeze time during long spots of no red bar, or to keep someone alive if the tick healing isn't doing much. You can use it while paralyzed

Otherwise, it is as you said, kite the mobs around, use a ranged special (left+square?) on the red bar to generate beat up, and double (4x special beat ups), triple (6x special beat ups) purge, kite until % you need to kill them and release. You can use quad purge with 8x special beat ups, but you don't get that until way late.

P1 is by far the hardest, pretty much everything 2-3 hits you. Purge healing up or def up first.
P2+ is pretty easy, since you can multi-purge and end battles in <20s.
I really recommend just coasting through on easy or playing normal though.

3D games are harder / more expensive to make. HD games are harder / more expensive to make. Japanese developers are folding left and right trying to keep up. This is one of the reasons we are getting so many mediocre charages / crossover games like Cross Edge, Neptunia, and Trinity Universe; they desperately need to recoup their investment in the new toolchains.

GUST's managed to make reasonably good headway with PhyreEngine (Sony's free engine), but it's far from best-of-breed, and everyone still needs to adapt. When you make stuff look as "good" as Rorona, it's pretty easy to see the framerate chug. When you make stuff look worse like ATQ, you get a better framerate, but, well, stuff looks worse.

tl;dr - 3DPD is ruining video games.

I'm wondering if Sega had to jump through any loops to get Sony to approve releasing Yakuza 3 and 4 without dubs.
Still, it seems like Sony is less strict about releasing games without dubs as far as PSN goes, because the only reason Arcana Heart 3 and (PS3)Argest War got PSN releases was because Aksys didn't want to dub them.
Also the fact that a lot of these types of games don't typically use up all the space of the storage medium they're on (AT3 is, what, 20 gigs out of 50-60?) means that companies like NISA who want to include both dubs won't have to cut out content in order to fit both of them in there.

Sony is unfortunately a very schizophrenic company, and especially the relationships between the departments can turn on a dime. This is why Home sucks and why visual novels don't get localized.

If you want to know how it ended up this way, you can look up Bernie Stolar - he's the guy who started the "American gamers don't like Japanese games" policy at SCEA and began the expensive approval processes that stop small localizers, and then went onto Sega to ruin the Saturn and fuck up the Dreamcast launch.

I'm quite sure SEGA got a deal with Sony for that, actually.

Oh, and undubbed games can also sell on PSN now, but not get disc releases. It's why Agarest didn't get a Blu-Ray release on PS3.

It is rumored that this policy is why Kenzan did not get translated at all - then Sega was able to point for western damand for Kenzan to get permission to bring 3 over without a dub. This is like nth hand information though, and several people in the chain were very bitter about SCEA and Sega US policies, so I don't know how much of it is true and how much is hyperbole.

... And what was wrong with the english dubbing?

Then again, I don't really need to ask this, do I?
Since I can already predict the answers regardless of how good or bad they really are.

I liked the english dubbing.
So there.

That size is fairly typical for most games, hell Black Ops is only 19gb and it is a AAA game. The fact is the majority of games you can see on consoles these days don't need anywhere near the amount of data you can fit on a Bluray.

Whether the dub is good or bad is pretty irrelevant. Sony's policy is horrible. If a developer can afford a dub, that's great. If they can't, but can afford a text translation, that is not a reason to block the game from release.

The situation we have now is that many companies either don't bring games over, bring games over with the cheapest dub they can get, or undub. All those options suck for players and suck for the localizer/publisher.

I'm still semi-hopeful that Kenzan will get localized, but as time goes on it's becoming increasingly unlikely. This post from someone who works at Sega is kind of vague as to whether or not it'll ever happen. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25997468&postcount=460

I'm usually one to play on an English dub, but we're not really talking about which dub is better. Just that Sony has some ass-backward companies when companies try to localize games.

>But even then, the imports so far are all puzzlers/shmups.
Probably since you don't really need to translate anything to make those games playable to a foreign audience. They're extremely straightforward.

Well as it is most multiplatform games are made to fix on discs the 360 uses, not the PS3.
Big PS3 exclusives like Killzone 3 and God of War 3 are fucking huge, though.

Almost all the space is used in 1080p movies and lossless (maybe even uncompressed?) audio.
So games that have a ton of these will be huge. I guess some multiplats might be lazy and not take advantage of the extra space, but who knows.
I'm sure >90% of AT Qoga's space is used in sound+movies, for example.

Don't know about qoga, but this is definitely true for a lot of games.
FF14 and MGS4 should not be the examples you think of when you think about space taken on the disc, those games are notorious for the amount of video and pre-rendered scenes in them.

No, most games the majority of the size is from graphics.
Big, dumb, unoptimized graphics.
Harddrives are getting obscenely huge and bluray disc capacity is greater than even the most graphically intensive game.

They could make it smaller and require less power to run at full speed, but they don't have to and just take the easy way so even a short game gets bloated to twenty gigs or something.

In America. It got one in Europe/UK. Though I don't know if they kept the JP or they dubbed it.

>The game was localized in Europe as Agarest: Generations of War by Ghostlight. The company planned to publish a standard retail version and a collector’s edition, both released on October 30th, 2009 for PlayStation 3.

Obviously, I forget the fact that every video chip in current use has hardware to decompress certain texture formats and that some developers on the ps3 like to ignore that fact in order to fudge around some of the ps3's limitations. It's a case of using what you have to cover what you don't.

The number of games that have pre-rendered cut scenes absolutely dwarf the number that don't, and I still suspect that loseless audio takes up a large portion.

>>7131917
There are quite a few games that work, though. I don't use my launch ps2 much anymore, except for problem games.
Graphics glitches aren't uncommon though most aren't that bad.

I am really liking the lore and feel of Ar Tonelico. The central song theme along with the top notch soundtrack make it a very pleasant experience on their own, but the whole world has a very interestingly artificial feel to it. And even after finishing AT1, there's still plenty of details about the history of the tower and the Reyvateils and whatnot that you're sort of left wanting to hear more.

>> No.7132040

I've had a few glitches in AT2. None of them game-breaking and some of them are pretty hilarious, like when Croix clips through the ground near a treasure chest into darkness, or when a character portrait appears and half of their face is missing.
It detracts from some of the emotional scenes, though.

A lot of people feel the same way, myself included. There is a huge wealth of information on the history and mechanics of the Ar Tonelico setting in the settei books, and the toukousphere interactions with the fans. A lot of energy and passion went into creating the entire setting and fleshing out the world that never quite gets touched upon in the games proper.

>From what I understand, space limitations on the PS2 disc caused NISA to remove a portion of the Japanese dub in order to fit in the English dub.

Incorrect. There's more than enough space for the Japanese track. There's a crap tonne of space used up in a dummy soundtrack.

The suspicion is that 'they' simply ran out of time/budget and had to ship. That's why the editing is half backed; barely done in the bonus cosmosphere in the first place and why the only the stuff that was voiced had proper editing.
