>Our protagonist is a fan of Japanese anime and games. He makes friends with some Japanese people on the internet, and decides to stay with them for a week.

Thrilled by the prospect of a week's sightseeing in Japan, he touches down in the airport, only to discover that his new friends -- "Makoto" and "Akira" -- are actually a pair of attractive young sisters!

After their introductions, the protagonist arrives at their house to learn that no one else is there.
"Um... where are your parents?"
"Our parents were called out of town for two weeks on urgent business."
(In other words, the only ones in the house will be Makoto, Akira, and I?)
(How is that going to work!?)

The local culture has some surprises in store on your first night there, but you'll soon head out on the town! Enjoy the date-like atmosphere as Makoto and Akira take you on a tour of famous sites. You'll marvel at the beauty and history of Japanese culture, fill up on local delicacies, and even share some thrilling moments with the girls!

The week you spend in Japan will certainly be memorable!

So why should you care? You should care because this is the first ever visual novel made by Japanese developers exclusively for western audiences. Anybody interested?

mite be cool. This might appeal to babbys who have no experience with VNs but seriously; multiple cute girls, no parents, Slice of live? There's nothing here to appeal to more well versed users.

It is interesting, but as other people have pointed out it's certainly not going to be for elite folk such as ourselves.

Even the few companies who don't use piracy as a catch-all cause for all the evils in the world still view them as a separate group from their customers somehow. They aren't. Except, you know, they're not going to make a profit on this game, and the western market in general isn't profitable. Bamboo (head of MangaGamer and Overdrive) is only doing all of this shit to spread VNs to western fans, because he himself also loves VNs (unlike say, Peter Payne, who really is only in it for the money). And don't come at me with the 'everything starts at a loss' bullshit, MangaGamer has existed since 2008 and they're still making a loss. Actual businesses start to turn a profit eventually, but MG doesn't have a problem with startup costs, it's just catering to an unprofitable market.

Which is also the reason...
>>7804925

Kara no Shoujo was 25 euros. This game is just TEN EUROS. I could've agreed with you on their games that are 37 euros, and I definitely did agree with you when they sold Higurashi Kai for 80 euros, but for 10 euros people have no excuse not to buy it if they like it.

If that was there goal they would make/translate a serious, scenario-driven VN rather than make some shitty shallow travel guide with fanservice and cute girls.

Sigh. I should really write some kind of beginner's FAQ for stupid newbies like you. A moege is a romance VN focusing on cute female characters who each have a route, usually set in a high school. It tends to be lighthearted, although it might get more serious later on in the routes. Examples include Clannad (which is all-ages), Da Capo and Shuffle. Nukige are VNs consisting mostly of porn with a story existing only as an excuse to connect the H-scenes.

OK, quickly addressing some issues before I catch a bus...

1. The game was written in Japanese and translated into English.

2. The devs asked Kouryuu (who lived in Japan for a while) for advice on how a foreigner would react to things, what to look for, etc. The game's translator (who also lived in Japan for a while) confirmed that they really nailed the main culture shock elements that a tourist would face.

3. Sorry guys, /jp/ is not the target audience for this one. This is something cheap and cheerful that is targeted to general anime fans. I'd like to think, however, that it's worth your €10 and if you aren't amazed by it, well, it's only about 5-7 hours for a full clear.

>>7805445
But Clannad IS a moege. It's about an ordinary high school protagonist and various routes in which he gets into a romantic relationship with the various heroines. I think your problem is that 'moege' is often used as a derogatory term and that Clannad therefore can't be a moege because it's good. Clannad definitely is good, but it is quite definitely a moege. Key's works, especially Kanon, were very influential on later moege...it's pretty hard to deny that their games (with perhaps the exception of Planetarian and Rewrite) are moege.

If I was to look at the game in a store, though, I admit I would probably assume it was a computerized version of Genki. It just looks like it, characters included; they're cute but they look a little like guide characters in an educational book.

But I have a feeling an educational book is part of what their audience is looking for, and in the first place, having that kind of subtext gives them an excuse to buy/talk about the game when they normally might be too embarrassed to.

>They wake up in a white room remembering nothing――
>The protagonist Takato Keisuke and 6 others are locked up in these hidden white rooms. His childhood friend Hokari Kanae, classmate Ando Miyako, underclassmate Mikaba Rika, English teacher Aoi Natsuki, same year Byakuya Rinne, and classmate Manaka Nemu. While still confused about their unusual situation, a “mystery voice” suddenly speaks to them: “A game has now started.”
>In order to escape the room, Keisuke is the “unlocker” and one heroine the “keyhole”. With an assigned act, he must “use the key”.
>
>After hearing the unreasonable and immoral requirements to win, Miyako gets pissed and snaps on the “mystery voice”. Suddenly the lights go out. The girls scream. The lights come back on, reilluminating the white room. They can see Miyako bound to a grotesque torture device.
>“Anyone who quits the game will die”
>Her screaming begins in tandem with the electrical current. With eyes wide open in fear, she pisses and shits herself. Everyone else starts freaking out. However, Keisuke seemed to be getting aroused by Miyako’s appearance. That was his secret, his urge to assault and humiliate girls.
>
>However, Nemu could see right through him and knew. Nemu takes advantage, forcing the protagonist to submit to him as she brings her lips up to his: “This is a contract kiss.”
>Keisuke was surprised by Nemu’s behavior but he wants to protect Kanae and decides for the sake of escaping, he will violate the others. Can Keisuke escape the white rooms and return to his normal life? Or will he hold back his own dark urges…? ―――It is you who decides in the end.

So a guy and a couple of girls get kidnapped, and he is forced to violate them, which he secretly enjoys. Sounds deep.

Seems like a pretty cool guy. They make some pretty good points on why KEY, Type Moon etc are reluctant to release their games over here - when their magnum opuses like Clannad and FSN are selling 50,000+ copies in Japan it'll seem like a slap in the face to only sell a few hundred overseas.

If steam could have 18+ games do you realize how ridiculous that would be for developers?

Now it is true that steam sales have been accused of cutting into developer's bottom line— reccetear devs said so explicitly. Though you may have noticed they but their other game on steam as well.

Regardless, steam is incredible for exposure.

Here, try this on for size: what if steam sold all ages versions of eroge—with an 18+ patch you could buy from the game's official site? This way you could sell the game from steam, while still technically following all the rules.

That's more downloads then sold games in Japan. Four times as much. However the cause is probably the lack of an official english version.

I'll buy this game just to support the industry. But they should have focused on a certain fetish or niche group rather then another generic VN if they want us to buy it. Since this thread popped up on bronzetask, I figured I'd respond;

Before I even started the English patch, there were 69 sales on dlsite. As of now, there are 170... So I'll say that all 101 are due to that. As of now, there are 30,000 downloads of a variety that can be counted (My mediafire patch, and that fakku page). I have no way to tell how many got the game via the torrent or the megaupload link (which had the patch included in it, so it wouldn't duplicate on my mediafire patch).

I would guess that the majority got it via torrent or megaupload (since those were the only ones linked on 4chan), but I have no way to guess at the numbers.

Of course my patch is amateurish, full of bugs, not official, and overall poor... But still, that is kind of sad. I do agree that it/other VNs should be priced lower for western markets until there is sufficient market penetration to warrant higher prices though.

>> No.7810744

>>7810719
My mediafire patch (which does not include the game) is at 20,985 (18,000 in the first week, then 2,000 over the next 3). The fakku page has 10,985 downloads listed. The most linked source of getting the game/patch has been a megaupload link, and that pirate bay torrent.

Of course, I was only expecting around 300 people to care about this game, so I'm still pretty blown away at how many people actually liked the game.
If I had to guess at an overall amount, I would guess it's around 60,000 by now.
