It tends to be lighthearted, although it might get more serious later on in the routes. Examples include Clannad (which is all-ages), Da Capo and Shuffle. Nukige are VNs consisting mostly of porn with a story existing only as an excuse to connect the H-scenes.

OK, quickly addressing some issues before I catch a bus...

1. The game was written in Japanese and translated into English.

2. The devs asked Kouryuu (who lived in Japan for a while) for advice on how a foreigner would react to things, what to look for, etc. The game's translator (who also lived in Japan for a while) confirmed that they really nailed the main culture shock elements that a tourist would face.

3. Sorry guys, /jp/ is not the target audience for this one. This is something cheap and cheerful that is targeted to general anime fans. I'd like to think, however, that it's worth your €10 and if you aren't amazed by it, well, it's only about 5-7 hours for a full clear.

If I was to look at the game in a store, though, I admit I would probably assume it was a computerized version of Genki. It just looks like it, characters included; they're cute but they look a little like guide characters in an educational book.

I am a tad iffy considering the premise, but from what we have seen I think it will at least be a decent game, in terms of "yay, Japan fan goes to Japan". Hopefully it won't bite itself in the ass, and hopefully it will be at least somewhat entertaining and have nice bits of info.

That's more downloads then sold games in Japan. Four times as much. However the cause is probably the lack of an official english version.

Regardless, there is a rapidly growing foreign market for visual novels. However the industry porn leaders seem to be incompetent morons at business.

I'll buy this game just to support the industry. But they should have focused on a certain fetish or niche group rather then another generic VN if they want us to buy it. Another big problem is marketing. The casual group that would most likely buy this game doesn't even know it exists. Marketing is key.

Since this thread popped up on bronzetask, I figured I'd respond;

Before I even started the English patch, there were 69 sales on dlsite. As of now, there are 170... So I'll say that all 101 are due to that. As of now, there are 30,000 downloads of a variety that can be counted (My mediafire patch, and that fakku page). I have no way to tell how many got the game via the torrent or the megaupload link (which had the patch included in it, so it wouldn't duplicate on my mediafire patch).

I would guess that the majority got it via torrent or megaupload (since those were the only ones linked on 4chan), but I have no way to guess at the numbers.

Of course my patch is amateurish, full of bugs, not official, and overall poor... But still, that is kind of sad. I do agree that it/other VNs should be priced lower for western markets until there is sufficient market penetration to warrant higher prices though.

My mediafire patch (which does not include the game) is at 20,985 (18,000 in the first week, then 2,000 over the next 3). The fakku page has 10,985 downloads listed. The most linked source of getting the game/patch has been a megaupload link, and that pirate bay torrent.

Of course, I was only expecting around 300 people to care about this game, so I'm still pretty blown away at how many people actually liked the game.
If I had to guess at an overall amount, I would guess it's around 60,000 by now.
