Remember when you had dreams of things you wanted to do once you graduated high school? Like studying a new skill, or travelling around the world. I remember mine, but here I am, a NEET of one year already and not showing any signs of change.

But I suppose I can't blame myself after having broken as a person long before that.

Never. Ever since I was young I've had this very appealing idea in my mind to just lounge around the house all day. I've been doing just that since I was 16.

I could never decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, anyway.

My stepdad of few years now is a hothead and tries to change me, my mom has given up on me it seems and is just trying to protect me from him. Yet both of them cannot accept my lifestyle and it seems like their whole life they have been waiting for me start dishing out tons of cash back for raising me.

But of course, I'm not completely adverse to working. There simply aren't any jobs that I'd want to do at all. There's also my sleep schedule. I've never been able to wake up or go to sleep at normal times ever since elementary school. I usually struggle to go to sleep around 4-5AM and wake up 1-2PM. This has been an ongoing thing for my entire life and it's not going to change.

I could not handle getting thrown into an uncaring school system with no clue what to do with my life, so dropping out and living in my room was natural for me. It's societies job to ensure that young people have a place in their community and a sense of belonging.

I never had any dreams because I never knew what was expected of me. I sometimes wish I was born to live as a monk in a monastery or some other form of devoted religious lifestyle.

Well... start by going for a master degree in chemistry or biology, move on to a doctorate degree if possible, keep yourself fit - the further above average the better, as long as it doesn't intrude on your academic work - and finally see if you can get funding to run an experiment over several years with phases that need to be run in space. With a little luck, provided there still will be a major space programme in the Western world, you might get a shot at becoming an astronaut in your mid to late forties.

Good luck, stick to it, and believe in your power.

I do remember. I remember sitting in classes, starring at the ceiling, counting the dots in the tiles and waiting for class to be over so I could go do something that was in the least bit mentally stimulating. Anything else, really. I remember the world being completely gray.

I remember dropping out and taking on a job, along with night school. I remember traveling to other states, then other countries while I finished my diploma.

I remember joining the AirForce after I'd gotten my diploma, seeing parts of the world I'd never knew existed. I remember seeing the best side of people, and the worst. I remember seeing my enemies fall before me, and my friends. I remember cheering while being covered in the blood of my allies, because our objective was met.

I remember coming home, being told I was hero. I remember being told I was a murderer. Also true. I remember getting a job, at a school, just like I'd hated so much before.

What I don't remember is that feeling of boredom. I know it was there, and I know it was the worst thing I've ever felt. I don't know how you NEETs live in gray.

I wanted to be a lot of things but when my laziness gave me bad results I scaled down my hopes. Now I'm a 19 year old boy with a 16 year old girls weekend job at a women's clothing store, and my sister is going to get a job there too, if that wasn't embarrassing enough. I'm too scared of rejection to apply for university. I just want to make a friend but I can't hit the middle line between acquaintance chit chat and seeming like I'm coming onto people...
Currently my dream right now is to wake up as the little girl, I'm sure one day it will come true.
