i dont understand sage. Why would you want to post without bumping a thread. Often you people say its not about hating the thread, you just don't want your post to bump. But if you don't post, no one would see it there

I just think the name field looks better when it's blue and green rather than just green.

Saging is so much work though, and it slows down my shitposting an awful lot.

On 2ch, a little ID is shown next to your post if you don't put sage in the email field. Part of this is to fight trolls and OPs that just want to bump their thread a lot (replies in a thread = your penis length, you know?). People want to be TRUE ANONYMOUS DURR HURR so they started putting sage in the email, all the time.

/jp/ is a board that is so slow if you don't bump your thread for for 10 minutes it will probably still be on the page even after that time. Common-sense.

It makes it easier for a small group of people to continue a discussion without having new people interfering with new pictures and/or sub-topics in the same thread.

If you feel that the thread doesn't need more attention for any reason, sage. 'Sage' often brings to mind negativity and spite. But on slowers boards, and /jp/ in particular sage promotes the users to browse thread and pick their topics. Instead of just dumping their miss-placed opinion on the one that happens to be on top of the list.

Think of it as QUALITY CONTROL. If it helps, see bumping as upvoting and "sage" as an opt-out of upvoting.

Oh that's right 4chan. I just compared your precious community to Web 2.0 hipster social news websites.

It's mostly useless on fast boards where a thread can reach fourth page in the matter of a couple of minutes, but /jp/ is slow and sometimes you just want to say something without making the thread perfectly visible up there for another half a day.
This is of course, an ideal situation, considering that usually people who just don't care post inane shit bumping the thread anyways. Still, can't blame people for trying.
