What? No... That was Henry Woodward who came up with a commercially viable two wire carbon filament in a glass bulb. He sold the patent (U.S. Patent 181,613) to Edison in the 1870s.

Edison simply made a slight improvement on the design because he had access to a better vacuum, which made Edison's bulbs last longer than the nitrogen filled Canadian model. It was cheaper to make and thus commercially viable.

Edison bought other patents and marketed them, or simplified the design to reduce the production costs. He was not truly inventor, he was more of a "refiner". He is similar to Bill gates in the 80s & 90s where he just bought out everyone and repackaged their products (and all the patents had his name on them).

Edison also employed hired thugs to intimidate competitors, and also had traveling exhibits where he demonstrated how dangerous competitor products were (Such as going around electrocuting dogs and horses using Westinghouse AC. He would pay kids to have their dogs fried, and the bigger the dog the better the pay).
