You know what I want /jp/?

I want an environment where I can go and play with people like you, like me. I want a video game, almost any kind, that has a large community and collection of people I find here. The environment allows for self-identification (avatars or character customization).

Steam affords some of this, but there are no games that are easy to be thrown into and enjoy with other similar people. TF2 used to have this, and people post here frequently about RO.

So help me, give me a place to stay. Give me a place I can go where because of Katawa Shoujo's release everyone has a name related to it, or a picture from it.

Give me a place that will eagerly auto identify with every character from Nisemonogatari.

Please /jp/ I need you.

Trust me, you don't want anything to do with 4chan users in online communities outside of 4chan. Ever seen a steam group or IRC? People act absolutely retarded.

Also, I'm pretty sure most here only play single player games. There haven't been any good MMOs for years.

I understand that most 4chan user are absolutely fucking retarded and I hate them. I think most of /jp/ is different however, and i appreciate that many of you have to be similar to me. That is sort of what I should have said in my original post.

Maybe a place like this doesn't exist and it needs to be created. When I was so much younger I played WoW and could take solace in that there would always be people online I could talk to whom i enjoyed the company of.

I cannot find a community like that anymore. it's been so many years...

I'm sympathetic, OP. Every time I seek out some sort of group for an imageboard outside of the board itself, like Steam or IRC, they're always the exact opposite of the board, or only consist of the users that I hated off of it. One time /jp/ played some Japanese game called Bar or something, it was fun.

Played it as a teenager, it's pretty bad. But one thing it does have going for it is great quests. For an MMO, anyway.

>> No.8353227

As a serious recommendation:

There is an IRC channel. The people in it have generally been helpful and useful guys and every once in awhile I have seen some calls to go play this game or that game and some groups doing that sort of thing.

But you're asking for a large community... when it's not even clear that this board has that large of a community already... these are pretty niche hobbies. As in, I close the blinds, lock the doors, and wear head phones because it's way less embarrassing for friends, roommates, whatever to think that I'm just getting off than for them to see ( ^_^ ) faced girls on my screen offer squid wieners with chopsticks.

Plus... you're talking about 2 things that cater more to /a/ than to /jp/.

/a/ has had thousands of Katawa Shoujou threads, has a lot of TF2 players, and is more like to be excited about Nisemonogatari than we are.

In fact, I really think that what I was trying to tell you is: you seem sort of like more of an /a/ guy, and that Anime-Suki or something might be a better place for you. This isn't being mean. This is me, assessing your wants/needs and saying: "Maybe you belong with the more mainstream and larger anime community, because boy, does it seem like you are the type for it."

I played it as a teenager too and one thing I have to say for it now is that it's really improved... specially graphics-wise and such. The overall content also increased like 5-times fold these last year or two... still i'm pretty lonely playing it... made a few friends there but the community isn't what it was like when i was a teenager and even ppl at my school were playing it...

I wish I could play with some /jp/ers... if you wanted to play just tell me and i'll add you, even help you in many ways that i can

Because people are too desperate to "belong". The result is that they quickly join what they perceive to be "the place to hang out" and regurgitate what they think proves that they belong to the group. Which is, invariably, the same drivel that everyone else churns out, because that's what the cool people on the internet are doing! Obviously, these people are always immature.

/jp/ related groups outside of /jp/ work well. The only catch is that they need to be unadvertised as external groups. They form because they fulfill a need, and because the people who need to be there found their way there. They do not include the people who are desperate to belong because it's "the thing everyone else is doing".

I have NEVER once found a single person from /jp/ somewhere that wasn't here, who wasn't a complete tool and asshole. I've long since stopped mentioning my involvement with this board, and still from time to time I run into these aspie kids. I hope you don't mind if I disagree.

I grew up on NES/SNES and I've played video games almost every day since I was 5. I don't share your opinion to that extreme.

I enjoy the shmups on there like Jamestown, Hitogata Happa, Gundeadligne, Gundemonium Recollection. I also used to play TF2 in a clan and had fun fighting other clans, I played a bit of Left4Dead before it became boring, I played an indie game called Sanctum, and I enjoyed Killing Floor a lot, and maybe a little bit of Terraria as well as a few VALVe titles.

Steam does have a lot of bad titles, but so does every medium regardless of how popular they are. My collection is a bit small since I don't really play RTS games or very many popular titles.

Console games still dominate my collection though. Right now I'm enjoying playing through the final fantasies again while juggling Monster Hunter 3. I like games with a nice high, intended difficulty.

>> No.8353935

>>8353895
I wasn't saying that any other medium is better than steam. Just saying that many people tend of overrate it in particular.

Also, if you want difficulty, you'd probably be better off playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. It's much harder and feels a lot more rewarding than Tri and P3rd. Also, I'm pretty sure you get more items in rewards, as I stopped playing P3rd because I only got around 5 reward items for every kill. That made getting new equipment a major hassle, because I only really enjoy fighting monsters the first 3 or 4 times.

>> No.8353997

>>8353935
Well when I think of the PC gaming community, VALVe's Steam comes to my mind right away. If you play a lot of PC games Steam makes it easier to keep track of your library/friends, and the sales are amazing. I don't know of a more user-friendly program for PC.

As for the quality of games themselves, I think that all depends on preference. I can't comment on huge titles like Civilization 5 or Dota 2 because I haven't played them.

But anyway, all right, I'll be sure to pick up MHFU when I'm "finished" with MH3. Thanks for the recommendation!
