It's a legitimate question. It came down to character preference, but I chose VAkiha over her other forms because they feel slow in comparison. I'm not actually good enough to play VAkiha at the speed she's meant for though, so I tend to retreat to neutral game often. Not knowing any pressure strings doesn't help.

I tell myself to switch to another character all the time, but then I bring them into practice mode and it doesn't feel right.

Blocking is my go-to strat but I usually end up fucked in the corner after enough of it. This is a really dumb question, but how safe are characters in general? I know the guy is new to the game too, but I feel like I can never get him off of me or punish his stuff.

It's hard being a Kouma player when your opponent has great run away spam and safe pokes into high damaging combos. Reminds me of why I stopped playing SSF4 and MVC3. I really like this game and I love a good fight, but it feels so one sided when playing against a good player thats using one of the higher tiers. I think WLen in general has a pretty bad time against Nanaya's pressure. Don't know what to suggest other than to try shielding or using more reversals more if I get too predictable.

Not sure about WLen specifics, but If you get an air counterhit they'll be completely vulnerable so you can just wait for them to fall near the ground and then combo them.

I noticed that you go to the 6aa series once you connect a hit. Sometimes you're too far for that and you have to omit it. Also if I'm already popped in the air you should omit it as well

nah... that's not it. once i land a hitconfirm, i always use 4c within 2-3 hits to close the distance before going into the combo proper. for some reason i was omitting that, even after i saw it the first time and tried to consciously correct it afterward. i just need to remember to lunge 4c before going into 6aaa and i'll be fine.

I've gotten pretty good at hitconfirming off the ground, but it's hard for me to get decent damage off of any air hits
I try my hardest to at least get a throw or knockdown, but I can't even consistently do that. It just feels a lot more awkward than turning a ground hitconfirm into a combo

just make sure you're familiar with your character's relaunch and that you watch your positioning so that the opponent doesn't tech out

You have ages to confirm counter hits. Just look out for them and follow up with a relaunch. You'll need some quick thinking in this area though, since a single relaunch string won't work for all the possible CH positions.
As for combo'ing from a non-CH, this is much harder unless your air-to-air has considerable hitstun. Depending on your character though, you may be able to air-stagger and have it combo on a hit.

Seems like landing, 66 2c 5c 3c into air-combo will work for just about every counter hit. I'm not sure how damage efficient this is though since I don't know H-aoko. In the cases where you won't have time to land/dash (for example if the counter hit was really high up), seems like 66 j.c 3c aircombo works.

I just tried installing it following the instructions on OP pastebin, but on all executables (mbaa, mbaacctool) after I press ok to open the game the game window is only a black screen on any of the resolutions, a music soon starts playing though

Do you have a start button bound? Try hitting that during the music, if that works, it might be a codec problem making it so you can't see the opening.

If that's not it, it's 99.9% sure that it's because your GPU doesn't have Pixel Shader 3 (and MBAACC needs PS3).
