coreans and chinese have been invading exhentai for years now. Its fucking impossible just to find a raw or english translated without finding over 5 of the same doujin translated in corean or chinese by several different groups.

I really wish exhentai would add a filter for foreign translations, it's getting pretty annoying to see so much corean and china crap.

of course I could always just put english in my searches all the time but i'd rather not see corea shit on there

I don't know. Every group has a status quo. When a subgroup defines its own status quo, it's understandable it would want to protect it, trying to remove conflict.

Even if we split up into two specific pro greentext and anti-greentext groups, there would be another conflict within each group

Observing a community to see the prevailing attitudes, and working to fit in has always been a part of netiquette. If you don't like a community, feel free to make your own one. Without this rule, every community would be flooded with normals, and the web would become uniform and boring.

Also, the number of ">"s also typically sets the level of the quote.
So if A has a discussion with B, and A responds to B's response, it could look like something like this if you were to quote all of it.

To quote a quote in a quote would naturally increase the level of that quote, which simply means that you leave in any ">"s used in the quote you quote.

This used to be how you did it in message boards and forums all over the web before the modern typical "mainstream forum design" emerged.

Not really. While I admit I find the typical usage of non-quote "greentext" to be ugly and stupid, if not most of all unnecessary as it usually looks better without the green.

But I neither care nor expect people to care about levels in quotes or whatnot, and most of 4chan are already lost in regards to proper usage of quote text or whatnot, so they might as well continue with their obnoxious and unnecessary green text.

But the quote function still stems from the old message boards.
