真夏のSounds good PV is out, it's certainly something. Also Mayu seems to get a lot more screen time in this PV, it's almost as though they're now pushing for her to be the new centre, thoughts?

The catchy song and cute dance choreography is pretty good by itself, the pv dark gloomy theme with lots of deaths and aids contraction however just doesn't match with it overall. Also there are just too many members, screen time gets cut short and majority aren't even being filmed.

The PV itself is confusing as fuck, no idea what its really trying to convey, literally it just means Mayuyu takes over Acchan's center role and leads the new generation.

Also why the fuck does SKE have to die in a AKB PV ??

If they have decided on pushing Mayu for the centre spot, I wouldn't be too surprised. I suppose since she's still pretty young they're thinking of having someone who can be the centre for a while to come rather than Yuko, Mariko etc who are pretty likely to graduate in the next year or two I'd say.

I'd say Acchan's fans consist of mostly casual fans, for example when people see the group they see Acchan and without knowing anything about other members they just go and support her. They also tend to make up for the majority of female fans too. I reckon a lot of her current fans merely like AKB for the music, not other reasons and so will probably just switch to the next most popular member. I can't see them switching over to someone like Mayu though, unless they're going for some kind of different image for the group, it'd make more sense being Yuko (unless she has plans of graduating in the near future).

Popularity has nothing to do with it, Yuko would have centered more singles and not only just heavy rotation if that were the case, instead everything went back to Maeda the designated center after that election. The decision lies with Akimoto and whoever he forces the center position on, in this case for the pv its clearly Mayuyu. Unless he decides otherwise, we are force to accept it like always.

I'd say that, although it's not quite as much, that's true of most of the front girls like Acchan, Mariko, Tomochin and to a lesser extent Yukirin and Mayuyu. That's not to say that they don't have hardcore fans too or anything, just that the proportion of casual to hardcore fans is much higher among their fanbases than, say, Suuchan's. People who like them for the music don't all pick Acchan as their favourite, especially not lately.

By the way, how do you Mayuyu-oshi types feel about that torch she's holding now? I was expecting it to be Yui myself, based on MG2 alone, but I suppose that would have caused far too much of an upset. I like them both and it's not going to be Sumire at the front anytime soon so I guess I'm neutral about it all.

I'm not so sure what to make of it right now, I guess we'll see over time if it'll stay this way. On the plus side, it means more screen time and I get to see even more of her. Not to mention it's great for her in terms of career and such. On the selfish negative side it means her goods are going to be even more expensive in the future (as though 2-3k\ per photo wasn't too much anyway). Also it probably means I'm never going to get to see her at a Team B theatre performance since she's been busy on every occasion I've seen them, before they even had their current popularity. Either way I'm happy for her if that's the way things are going to be now.
For all we know they may have a different person fronting different songs, seems unlikely but maybe Aki-P will want to try out new things.

Worth the read if you're interested. Nothing groundbreaking just that some members aren't really given much of a shot despite how hard they work.

I think the AKB franchise has drifted away from their original concept a bit but there have always been members like Mizuki out there. Plus NMB kenkyuusei have it a bit worse than AKB. AKB has been promoting their kenkyuusei recently and team 4 was created basically to give a bunch of them a shot but NMB being less popular might not have this kind of leverage. IMO they need fewer kenkyuusei. There are so many members already it doens't make sense to introduce more and more into established groups like AKB.

What I mean is that newer groups like NMB need kenkyuusei but AKB ended up accumulating so many that Team 4 was created as a kind of overflow. A better solution would have been to avoid adding as many new members in the first place.

The problem is that the music is pretty cookie cutter generic idol stuff without any experiments. There are exceptions like Team B's theme, Wasamins Enka stuff or Ohori Megumi putting out pure sex with her songs, but the big songs of the group are nothing to write home about, being just boring at times. Well, considering that the most popular girl of the group is also the most boring idol in the history of the idol business you might see this as fitting a picture overall.

Well that's just like your opinion, man.

AKB is one of the only idol groups with songs like RIVER or Beginner and those aren't even my favorites tbh. They have one of the widest ranges of sounds out of any band I know of (I'd list Robert Ritchie but he's been doing music forever and really doesn't count). Out of curiosity what do you actually like? That is, out of japanese music in general? And who do you consider an interesting idol?
