Christians, a long time ago, actually followed what jesus said. After the Jews screwed them royally in the 7th century (They mass murdered an entire city for not choosing to be jews), they became increasingly intolerant to any and all religions.

As the popes gained more and more power, and got more corrupted than your average faceless rapist, they started making their own revisions. Soon, all Bibles were written in latin, and only latin. Latin could be considered the "scholar" language of the time, and your average peasant was not allowed this luxury. Since people didn't know what the fuck the Bible said, the Pope started to rile them on the muslim being heathens and defiling the Jerusalem, in order to gain a merchant route and a buffer against invasions from nearby heathen countries.

But to completely suck them up to the idea, the Pope said no one that was not a clergyman had a right to read or interpretate the Bible, since they were not schooled to do so.

And so the Crusades happened. Millions with no idea of what they believed, acting exactly opposite to the teachings of everybody's favorite jew.

This is, of course, a very short introduction. The whole story is horribly more complicated. I invite you to read more on the subject.

You must realize that the Pope was pretty much an emperor who did not like people no longer paying tribute to him. I am sure most sensible people would see it fit to run the hell away. Being paranoid was a perfectly sane state of mind.

Consider this /jp/: IF the pope is into the whole religious thing because he actually believes in that garbage, transporting him to Gensokyo would give him at least as much faith energy as Reimu. Even if his god isn't real, this is enough for him to serve the purpose of a youkai killer. If his god is real but it's books don't accurately depict it's power or origins, that's just fine too. His god would still have plenty of power for him to use with all that fucking faith he must have gathered over the years. Whereas Reimu is just an unlikeable bitch that has nice armpits, the pope is very charismatic for being such an old fuck. Also he could probably turn himself into a little girl with magic in Gensokyo. Therefore the pope would be a better touhou than Reimu, and a more fitting main character. More importantly we'd finally get another touhou with gray/silver hair. Also cross danmaku would probably look pretty cool
