You know how the site was split up before? Like with 4chan and world4ch and not4chan (notfourchan? The official one).

We should do that again. Have 4chan for weeaboo shit, and imgboa.rd (or some other hipster domain hack) for "normal" subjects. They can run the same software and even be on the same server. Just different domains and no direct linking of boards.

Luckily /jp/ actually turned out well and developed a fairly wide range of posting material unlike those other boards. Instead of spiraling down in a cesspool of weirdos posting repetitive pictures and roleplaying threads, we actually have surpassed not only the board that spawned us, but 4chan as a whole.

While I admit that threads about western made VNs, or the making of VNs tend to be for the part shit, and even though I rarely indulged in those topics.
I do think that it's pretty horrible that some whining got moot&mods to decide that they shouldn't be on /jp/.

With that, /jp/ technically can't be about the medium form of VNs in general at all. And heck, it wasn't even replaced with anything given how /vg/ is technically not about the medium as a whole either.

It was pretty nice to every once in a while glance at a thread about the workings of VN engines and how they could be used. Find every other blue moon the dreams of someone trying to do something themselves and where they might have drawn inspiration from. And to be able to do this on the same board where everything else about VNs actually belonged as well.

So while I rarely took part in it myself, in retrospect I recognize that it to at least some extent had a little glimmer of warmth and dreams to it, of which I now have found myself to miss to some extent. So that's actually a bit sad for /jp/ to have lost.

Then again the bitching from that time were bad in alot of ways.

Sort of half-amusing yet depressing at the same time as well though. /jp/ were the place for VNs ever since its creations, and posting them in /a/ or /v/ even had you banned, and people bitched and whined if you posted your obscure weeaboo crap in their boards. Yet they had apparently at some tiime grown to love the stuff to the point in which they couldn't let it go, and what's even more ironic is how they condemned the people who in the same manner were shoved off the board just like them before.

Somehow I find that mildly amusing yet depressing. Though I digress, having such a huge influx of /a/ and /v/ was not good. Even ignoring the raids and the types of posters, the speed of the board went up notably as well.
Still though, it serves to prove just how tsundere the other boards are for the /jp/ topics. They claim that they hate them and whine whenever its posted, and then they fall completely lovestruck and couldn't let go.

We can still do those things. People here develop and discuss OELVNs. Mugen and that witch 2 guy, for example. We even made The Dandelion Girl, and that Vienne project made _some_ progress (though it's dead now). Hell, Anon's Nice Day and Project Insomnia could very well be part of the reason the board was created.

The main problem is Katawa Shoujo. We simply don't want it here. Perhaps it would be fine if spun a certain way, e.g. "Does it show that visual novels can be successful in the West?" and we've had such threads and they were interesting. We just don't want that shit 24/7, any more than /a/ wants "WHAT NON-JAPANESE CARTOONS DO U WATCH???" at all times.

I did claim that it's "technically" the case. And quite alot of such manner of threads have been deleted since, even those not related to Katawa Shoujo and all that jazz. But I suppose they aren't as petty as to hunt down and destroy such threads now.

The Katawa Shoujo thing is of course of note though, it complicated and became a huge mess.
It still baffles me how they have managed to have a constant chain thread on the thing over at /vg/ ever since its creation, and add to that the chain threads they had in /v/ and /a/ before that. I honestly don't really get how one could discuss one and the same work to that extent. Then again I suppose they aren't really discussing it as much as fawning over it repeatidly, the difference between loving a work that is made part of your life, and taking it a step further and making it part of one's "lifestyle".

All that said though, the term "OEL" is relaively embarrassing term. It was essentially coined just to reach into the pockets of those that excessively fawns over anything Japanese or Japanese inspired, and or not to alienate those who shun anything with actual English terms such as "comic book", "cartoon" etc. It's made purely to appeal to "weeaboos". It's rather sad the term have managed to survive as it has.

I was a bit sarcastic, but I really do like /jp/ and think it has a good variety of topics. Most importantly, the manner that people here discuss things is very different from /a/ or other boards. People here tend to encourage fairly high standards, but are also for the most part friendly. I can honestly say that while at its best, /jp/ has the finest group of posters on the site. Unfortunately, it also has its lows, but I can overlook that.
