>I've been wanting to play RO but I played it so much I can't stand playing it all over again for myself since I've pretty much done everything in the game that's doable already.

Have you ever transmogrified weapons in Ragnarok Online (RO)? For example, there is a quest that will let you combine those two giant-sized one-handed super swords from the Top Boss in the game. If you are successful, you will end up with two-handed greatsword Violet Fear. One of the features is that Violet fear has a huge color sprite (not a bland one) that is animated when you use it.

Have you solved the Yggdrasil quest? The world beyond the rift has many more quests, so have you solved those without using the walk-throughs that other players have assembled? Quests in any mmorpg are not challenging when people use the cheat guides. There are real players in RO who actually try to do quests without using cheat guides. I think those are the real people who are genuinely trying to play the game rather than do the get to max level the fastest rat race.

The majority of Ragnarok Online players do not participate in WoE. It was like that in the subscription days (said one of the GMs before iRO's F2P server opened).

Nothing now, waiting for FFXIV 2.0. Every other Japanese game lately seems shitty and low budget to me at this point and I don't like the community or aesthetics of western games.

With a decent UI, performance and two years of content added since I last played, I have high hopes for it. I'm looking forward to the new storyline too. Might try role playing this time.

Was playing PSO2 for a while but there's just nothing fun to do. I don't think it even deserves to be called an MMO when there's no open world.

I played Wakfu for a day. It was really nice, but then it wanted me to by pay so I could get new quests and attack higher mobs.

My favorite is still Lord of the Rings Online. It wants you to pay, too, but only after about 100 hours. If you don't, you can still go to high level areas, attack mobs there and advance in the main story line, but you can't take any other quests. Leveling gets harder but not impossible. You can also buy those areas with a special in-game currency. Tedious but possible too. I was on a role-playing server, which was great because people really know how to take it easy there. Some people would just spend hours in a tavern, playing instruments and talking, without bothering with grinding. Maybe I should try getting it to work again.

Maybe FF1.4.0 will be good. I don't think there's even been a game completely redone after failing aside from Ragnarok Online 2 (was that still in the works, or did it already come out and fail for the second time?).

They've done a lot with it FFXIV, but unfortunately the game simply wasn't "fun" even with over a year-and-a-half of content and design changes under a new development team.

Everyone who had a copy will get to play a month of 2.0 for free, so I will definitely be trying it and hoping their entirely "new" game is enjoyable this time around. Other than that, all I really accomplished in the game was getting a bikini on my mithra and running around as a cute little taru for a while.

I don't even remember it very well, save for the fact that some members of hotglue were trying to force their opinions on me when I told them I should figure out my own playstyle and build. I guess I was stubborn, but then again I felt they were trying to take the fun out of it for me. Part of the fun for any game for me is finding what works for me.

>>9624247
I didn't really know any of that. I met Amaranthea on a forum outside of 4chan and he introduced me to /jp/ and to Hotglue. I've known him for about I think three years, though it's mostly a one-sided relationship in my opinion - I talk, he usually ignores and then on occasion throws in something interesting about anime or computers.

And truth be told I wasn't really "from /jp/" until recently but they still let me join because I posted in one of their threads.

I don't like playing with random people in the Mabinogi community, for reasons ranging from not knowing what the first aid skill does to rushing through everything to being absolutely suicidal and needing me to revive them every damn room.

I don't like playing with guilds either though, mostly because I then feel obligated to play and do things with them. I'd rather just have a few friends in Mabinogi to play with and do runs and commerce with.

I don't see the problem with alt addiction, because it lets you truly understand the class that you try, which can really help in instances because you would be able to give people informative tips on what to do and such. Also I think it's just fun to play other classes to try them out. Like, I enjoyed sorc first and maxed one but after maxing my lancer I think I might like tanking more than ranged dps which is just so boring.

If you were that guy, they probably tried to give you good builds so you could do better, but you refused to listen.

If you weren't that guy then never mind. I do remember there being people like that in Hotglue, though. They complained in chat but when you tried to help them they basically ignored you and still kept bitching.

>At the least, I can't stand it when people insist on using voice chat. It kills the immersion.

Parties and organized warfare events require voice chat because many of the key members have their keyboards and mouse tied up fighting, defending, or moving towards an important strategic or tactical position. If they have to spend time typing on the keyboard, their char MUST stop performing actions or movement. Immersion is improved with your greater situational awareness of what is going on with everyone else on the TEAM.

Do you get that? Their char comes to a halt on its actions and defensive moves while they type, and they also have to take their eyes off the environment and look at the chatbox area. That WILL BE fatal in a number of circumstances because competition is fierce. Thus, to avoid this loss of performance, use of voice communication is needed.

Skilled players are able to talk and perform fairly different things at the same time. So use of voice is not a decrease in existing performance.

Generally, almost all serious guilds in RO WoE have a policy that voice is mandatory. First of all, even if you don't talk, most of the instructions and tactical/strategic news will occur by voice. INTER-team and INTER-guild info might be chat or a different voice channel.

That's taking things far too seriously for any /jp/ guild. Of course, if like 6 guys felt they needed to get a vent up to maximize their own abilities within the guild, okay fine, sure (there's no cases this is needed). But that wouldn't be guild vent, that would be "we can't compete without doing this, so we are using vent" vent.

>> No.9624707

>>9624509
>I don't think most end game guilds care for you to speak in vent unless you are tank or main healer. At least in my experience.

In my experience, all the players need to at least LISTEN on voice, so they all need to be connected. Commands as well as descriptions by spies and scouts come in on voice as well as relayed emergency requests for "SAVE US NOW!!" by allies. If you aren't on voice for major cooperative events, then you probably are not a significant team player. Anyways, players who refuse to cooperate with the rest of the guild get kicked out. Good guilds always have a lot of demand for membership slots since they are always maxed in membership.

Even if you never talk, if you don't listen, you are left out. Also, you FORCE the people to repeat commands to you by typing. That is pretty annoying.

>> No.9624721

ha ha, you see by how /jp/ players have opinions about voice whether or not they are team players.

The team players use voice and seem to be with the top guilds in the game. The /jp/ solo type players argue against voice in order to preserve their privacy (such as a crossgender char) which is more important to them than the success of the team.

With attitudes like that, I can see /jp/ guilds do poorly when competing against other guilds in places where team and alliance organization and cooperation are well-established such as Ragnarok Online War of Emperium.

There aren't even enough players on /jp/ who care about competing seriously in such thing. Thus there is no such thing as /jp/ voice chat.

If you have voice chat in a seriously competitive guild, you aren't playing in a /jp/ guild.

Aika: We steamroll everyone until we're the best guild in the game, and carry our server to victory.

Eden Eternal: We rush GQs so fast that we hit guild town in less than a few hours.

Cosmic Break: Hotglue was pretty big, but I can't tell you anything truly noticable.

I think, if we have a big guild, we'd benefit from a voice chat. Both in organization and in social too. Playing with /jp/ almost feels like playing in a random guild sometimes. The stereotype that everyone is an antisocial NEET is getting stupid and played out.

I meant in cases that would actually require voice chat to compete, not the things we can hivemind either without anyone even assigned as leader or with someone casually going about picking priority targets, such as was the case in Aika and CB.

Voice chat is a terrible idea for any /jp/ guild though, too many players don't want to voice chat, even if it's potentially not a majority anymore with all the newcomers. Because these players are in the guild, putting up a voice chat would be automatically excluding them from part of the guild chat. Voice chat has no place in a /jp/ guild.

If you went into Ragnarok Online WoE (War of Emperium) where the guilds and guild alliances fight it out to possess castles (or wreck the economy of other guilds with strategic economic tactics), you will notice quickly that your /jp/ guild gets turned into roadkill because the players are good and use voice. In fact also try playing the same game while using broadband and the same computer and tell me that Comcast doesn't help for shit with hardware lag that you don't have the money to fix because you get free money for your Autism and most of it goes towards rent, food and bills.

I think that even then no matter how confident with your abilities or how skilled you are with whatever kind of robot you use that the fact you have the kind of hardware lag I have in any online game that requires you have a modern machine instead of the old Compaq Presario that was last made over a decade ago that you upgraded once with said mentioned video card that you will have problems with lag in almost any and every MMO that isn't browser-based and even then in quite a few that are browser-based.

Mabi makes its money from cosmetic things and by extorting item space a little. Asides from not being able to open up player shop without a paid service, you don't need to buy anything to be able to experience the game and be as good as anyone else.

The only things that result to some kind of competition in Mabinogi are things like the guild battle, the cooking contest, and the occasional contest where players from all of the servers design new outfits to be made into real items in the game. Oh, and the completely optional elements of player versus player combat which you can set up however you want, be it reducing all damage to one percent or having your pets fight like Pokémon.

I only bother with Western MMOs that have decent, unique or rewarding gameplay. I can name all of the Western MMOs I've played and still play that qualify on one hand, and about a third of them are actually MUDs - multi-user dungeons that predate the MMO by at least a decade or so.

I tried the original Guild Wars right when it came out. On dial-up and with a computer that had a Pentium III CPU. I don't mind wasting that twenty dollars for some reason because that attempt to play Guild Wars was got me to try other more enjoyable MMOs.

Without me wasting that twenty bucks on Guild Wars I would have never gone through the trial and error process that lead me to the games I love and play on the internet today.
