I think you have the answer there. The main strength of the media is interactivity, and the freedom to select different choices for different outcomes.

However feel this is rather underused in traditional VNs. Either pick the right choices arbitrarily, or get a bad end. Or pick different 'correct' choices to get different girl routes. I have no idea what constitutes awesome use of interactivity, but I am pretty sure this is not it.
