To be fair, I don't think you understand how western news like CNN works.

of course CNN could go into the 100 yen shops, but that would be boring and mundane. more off, it wouldn't be news. "Headline: Fruits priced at reasonable prices in Japan!!" isn't a good story. Its a better news story if they go to japan and say, "In Japan, Everything is expensive and outrageous!" because then it hooks the viewer's interest. Its what is called a "Fluff piece." a bit of not-news to fill in time between news cycles.

Then again, the only people who watch CNN anymore are the ignorant and the stupid. Anyone who uses the internet regularly understands that the world often doesn't work the way CNN says it does. That is why TV is losing viewers to the internet. The viewers don't want to stand for the media's exaggerations any longer and are quickly turning to the internet.
