Also known as the "I don't like it, therefore you can't do it" argument? I'll let Aaeru explain what's wrong with that...

You spelt "vandalised" wrong.

You're around 2 weeks too late. Either way we don't care, since they're basically showing off their elitist "trade protectionism" and thus opening up the market for the formation of an opposition. The old and new culture will stay separate, just like DealExtreme and Alibaba aren't going to get their products into traditional stores.

>>10624410
Experience with debating against VNDB, and the FH trial patch comparison, shows that most of them don't really care about accuracy as long as it "sounds English enough". (One VNDB'er even complained about a line like "Behind me, a long long bridge extends in a straight line." and showed the mapping into the original, proving that this is an accurate translation --- but he hated it, for reasons that may remain a mystery...)

Given that the images fill up the bulk of the screen and the text is in a small box at the bottom, yes.

Right on schedule for EOL in a few hours at COB. Looks like we won't need another thread.

>>10610399
"caught doing it multiple times"? Are you fucking kidding me? You mean "we have some very easily faked inconclusive circumstantial evidence"? I see you're jumping to conclusions and spreading slander as usual... it looks like there's multiple layers of trolling going on. Who's to say it isn't one of you trying to frame me?

Looks like some other parties are joining in on the "fun". Consider this: Why would I bump the thread if I wanted it to last, and being close to the limit it would only result in the blowup of posts above?

>>10607121
Not banned, they just closed the thread because it started to go in a direction they didn't like. Did you know VNDB doesn't care about translation quality if the release is "official" somehow?

>>10607143
FH? That was 3 years ago. We don't care for VNDB either and don't need our releases there, just some idiot decided to add it.

>>10603638
This thread is running a little ahead of schedule. A new one will simply replace it if it dies before then. It would be good if it lasted until its scheduled EOL, which is only a few more days since now.

>>10603803
Free if you'll be releasing for free. You still have to supply the translator(s).

>>10597819
The problem is people like you complaining about what someone else wants to do.

>>10598001
MT is just one of the ways to achieve our goals and developing a new MT engine is a significant undertaking, and we won't do it if we don't need to; we're optimising ROI too. What's the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to get VNs translated good enough for the masses.

>>10598568
Translating in general, or this one in particular? Either way you won't need to extract the text anymore, look at VNR ( http://annot.me/wiki/en/Visual_Novel_Reader ).

Back when I was young I worked to earn more for myself. Before my time, at the turn of the 20th century, your offspring would be working on the farm, at the local factory, or whatever else. Now when someone just a year younger than "legal working age" wants to, everyone is complaining with "think of the children".

Kids these days...

>>10593336
MHTRANS actually achieved a nice speed before the translator lost interest.

>>10593341
Wrong. One translator who lost interest and another taunting bastard.

>>10593928
I am. What you're describing sounds like retirement... which is still over a decade away for me.

One thing we're very interested in is combining/choosing among multiple MT engines automatically. The difficulty is coming up with an accuracy metric that doesn't require human intervention or supposes the existence of already "perfectly" translated reference text (unlike BLEU), but similarity/back-translation might work; if 10 different MT engines all produce the exact same output then there's a much higher chance they're correct compared to if they all give something different, and we can rate translations that way/mark the high variance ones for further manual translation. That avoids the expense of developing our own MT engine... should be fun.

>Because a translation is necessarily becoming the content of the work, it's quality is far more important than if you compressed the voices with a bad codec to save space.
Maybe it is. But that doesn't matter, because what my example is saying is that I'm satisfied. It is enough to entertain me, to relieve some tedium and boredom. That is what entertainment is. Consume it, feel happy, move on with life.

>There is no youtube of visual novels
At least 1, maybe 2 groups already release translations on YT. VNR means you do not need to install patches to read translation or share yours with others. We're getting there.

>No one is going to choose a low quality translation if a high quality translation exists.
It is not about quality but perceived value. A "high quality translation" may take 10 times as long, or may not ever exist. I am probably much older than you so I say this from experience: Enjoy what you can with what you have now, because you may not be able to in the future.

>>10586769
"almost everywhere" meaning your little elitist groups? Couldn't care less. As I said before we'd be very interested if you can consistently get this level of quality or better using MT only, but we're not aware of any free solutions that can come close. Compared to manual translation MT has an insane speed advantage; all it's lacking is accuracy. Maybe current systems are 50-60%, but do you want your VNs translated in under a week for 50-60% accuracy, or over a year for maybe 95%? Maybe the latter, but improve MT to 80%+ and the tradeoffs start changing.

>>10590324
It's nearly trivial to make two versions with different spelling, so we did.

[I have looked briefly at Japanese grammar. Getting accurate word separation is probably the initial hurdle to overcome.]
