This game is MMO in its purest form: novelty over good gameplay all the way through.

Semi public villages are bad. You need lots of planning to make a village correctly and tight communication. You need to scout for good soil, nearby fishing spots, pine forests for boughs, possibly clay, possibly a cave, and of course nearby civilization.
