No, Thief and Sword really is fun. The main reason I did it was for the pretty unique setup of the flow of the game (Like a gamebook). It was just the H-scenes that got a little annoying. They went on far too long.

When I started it, I said I would only do Shalt's route. So after I finished Shalt's route, I stopped. The other is the same story (Except a different prologue and ending, and a few scenes in between), but different H-scenes.

Hah, my break is MGQ2. It's a lot more entertaining than VH to translate, I have to say.

The story scenes in thief and sword were actually some of the most fun, but the incredibly repetitive H-scenes started to get painful after a while.

Yeah, I have the huge map list for everything that lists each area and all that. I actually haven't done much myself in either the Orc Kingdom or the underground city, so I don't know all there is to do in the different places (nor have I looked at the text itself yet).

But once I'm caught up with whatever they have done, the whole thing will be really easy from then on. They seem to add, on average, about 1000 boxes per month to the game. If I go full crazy mode, I can do about 500 in a day.

Sort of... Hot Spring/Onsen town is about 25% of the game, and the capital is about 25% of the game. The rest of the things are like 2~5% each, but then the Orc Kingdom is like 25%, and the underground city is growing bigger quickly.

I actually think the underground city has one of the biggest map files, clocking in at 2000 text boxes (Each text box can be a single word up to three sentence or so).

There are a lot of bugs in the current version I've been using for VH. Once MGQ2 is done, I'll try to find the most stable bug free release to patch it up to before starting on new areas.

Thanks as always for maintaining this list. I started on the MGQ part 2 translation today, and will post updates at http://roguetranslations.wordpress.com/category/mgq-part-2/ (I don't know if you compile this info based on websites or by IRC channels or something).

The first two towns should be 99.9% translated (Barring of course Serena). If you're running into lots of untranslated text, you're probably using that patch from the other group from last year.

Because I don't know which format they're heading to, and if they alter old lines they may also change the formatting, which means I'd have to load up and individually check every single line to make sure it doesn't run off screen.

Overall it's far easier to just match whatever format the original is in. If they modify a line in a future patch, then I can just modify the existing line to again match. If I start adding in the nameplates when there aren't any, I have to make sure that when they modified the line they didn't add the character portrait, etc...

Oh, and the Nanako/Rin text is some of the worst doujin-quality writing ever. It was pretty painful to read. I tried my best to not make it pants on head retarded, but there's only so much you can do before it borders on rewriting which wouldn't be good.

>> No.8099301 [View]

All of the text for Rin/Hinano/Nanako storyline is still in the map files themselves. Everything for them is already translated too, except for about 100 unreachable lines that I didn't do since I couldn't reach them in-game.

I'm sure after the tournament quest with Gerbera, Rin will go back to her room and that will start that entire line. Just hope they finish that bridge soon.

No idea why that file is corrupt for people, since it isn't for me. I reuploaded the patch again at http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8a8ajkjdhlt9y1k .

Here you go:
http://roguetranslations.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/vh-capital-patch/

Make sure to copy your old saves into the new folder if you played the first patch. I also recommend doing this in a new folder. Here's to hoping the Japanese repository of the game doesn't crash.

The item descriptions have no bearing on the game whatsoever. A wooden shield is "A shield made of wood. Good at blocking weak attacks, easily broken". I'm lazy and don't feel like spending a month editing 360 images for something inconsequential.

That's true, I shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Since I put out the patch, I've only done the Capital front gate, the capital adventurer's guild, and about half of the Public Office / Government Building. Those are two of the four biggest areas in the capital though, so that's good.

I think the xenophobia stems more from "What if what happened to rapelay happens to us" though, due to the content.

A line in the capital made me chuckle

"If you walk around looking like that, you're just asking to be raped!"

I seriously hope that doesn't make it to those slutwalk people.

I actually haven't really edited what I've done yet. There are a lot of mistakes all over the place, and even inconsistent item/skill names. The images / diary pages were done by someone else a while ago (he posts as /d/mod on that blog), and he said I could use them. I'll fix them at some point... I think that ranking charter even has Hanten as Hang Ten. Though I do think he would be an awesome surfer.

>>7985248
I was worried about that happening... I know they're pretty xenophobic. They probably saw all the foreign IPs downloading and cut off that one file. I think the other, newer versions work. Like I thought, someone created an installer within the first few hours with everything already done, so it isn't that big of a deal I guess.

The straight up patch was downloaded a little under 25,000 times off my mediafire patch, and 20,000 on Fakkus page. I think most people got the game from erogedownload or the piratebay torrent, so 90,000 wouldn't surprise me at this point.

If I remember right, there were about 64 sales before any patch came out, and now there are 190. So about 0.15% sales. Obviously it's an unofficial patch with mistakes throughout, but that's still almost laughably low.

Also, who's moogy? I remember seeing the name thrown around a few times (usually negatively, echoed again here).

My mediafire patch (which does not include the game) is at 20,985 (18,000 in the first week, then 2,000 over the next 3). The fakku page has 10,985 downloads listed. The most linked source of getting the game/patch has been a megaupload link, and that pirate bay torrent.

Of course, I was only expecting around 300 people to care about this game, so I'm still pretty blown away at how many people actually liked the game.
If I had to guess at an overall amount, I would guess it's around 60,000 by now.

Since this thread popped up on bronzetask, I figured I'd respond;

Before I even started the English patch, there were 69 sales on dlsite. As of now, there are 170... So I'll say that all 101 are due to that. As of now, there are 30,000 downloads of a variety that can be counted (My mediafire patch, and that fakku page). I have no way to tell how many got the game via the torrent or the megaupload link (which had the patch included in it, so it wouldn't duplicate on my mediafire patch).

I would guess that the majority got it via torrent or megaupload (since those were the only ones linked on 4chan), but I have no way to guess at the numbers.

Of course my patch is amateurish, full of bugs, not official, and overall poor... But still, that is kind of sad. I do agree that it/other VNs should be priced lower for western markets until there is sufficient market penetration to warrant higher prices though.
