i was actually waiting on my girlfriend to go to the bathroom while we were walking around a shopping center attached to the convention center with my mask off(this was on day 3, we had actually already signed out of our hotel room and i just wanted to spend all the way to closing ceremonies in kigurumi), and a family that wasn't even there for the convention came up and asked me what was going on (since their children like anime) and acted like i was just dressed completely normal.

i also had one person approach me after closing ceremonies asking about the mask, and saying she recognized me from the year before, i took off my mask to talk to her (had the mask off the whole closing ceremonies anyways so i could see), and i literally saw her jaw drop open, then see her register that she shouldn't have her mouth open but she still couldn't quite close it all the way, but she didn't freak out and stayed friendly while we were talking. was probably more amazed at how well i pull off playing a girl. i've actually noticed that girls seem more easily convinced that you're a girl rather than guys, probably because guys are more paranoid, but i've also had bigger freakouts from girls than i have guys.

to the exact opposite of this guys story, i've actually had people become friendlier whenever i'd end up demasking. it's extremely rare for me, but i get worn out having the mask on for long periods, so on occasion i'll find a little corner semi-out of view and demask there for a little break. or at some larger panels where it's just easier to see with the mask off i'll demask. for many people, i think it makes you seem more....normal...if they can see your face. and i've had quite a few people freak out initially when they realized i wasn't actually a girl...and then were cool with me

i can stay in kig for usually a good few hours before i need a break. most kigs will take quite a few breaks at cons i've been to. depends on the weather, if it's warm out, it can get hot pretty fast. if it's cold....well, i've had a photographer get the sniffles from the cold while i've been just fine in the mask. eating and drinking, at most cons i'll have a hotel room, so just go up there with the food at eat during a break.

thanks. no, just something i threw together. sonya's an original character, so she has no set outfit. it's a backless leotard combined with a pair of pants.

we originally tried to post kigurumi on /cgl/. but they would actively kick us out.

another actual kigurumi here. when out in public i can go a while without need to lift the mask for a "breather", but when lounging around i tend to have trouble staying cool. as for talking, most i'll do is whisper to helpers. gets really hard to always have to write things down, plus that damn writing pad just always gets in the way
>>6853896
my mask has great vision. anyone else that has tested her has said she's got the best vision they've ever found. and the eye holes are pretty well hidden too, just by shadows.

i have some wig working experience, and am always looking for a good excuse to get more practice. make a mask, and if it looks good, i'd probably be more than happy to do the wigwork

it's easier to just not talk. not to mention the mask can muffle speech a little. though some girls do talk in kigurumi, like the mobira knights on youtube.

as far as i know none of us are going next year. buncha drunk assholes were trashing a floor, and going up to our room we passed that floor and they almost damaged a friend's mask. the con itself has kinda gone to crap

oh yea. Red is a much tighter fit than sonya....very small gaps on the side, while if you look at sonya, she has huge spaces on the sides between my head and her. not exactly something i'm happy with, since she has a tendency to move easily if i move my head too much, but she still stays on even if i try handstands, so not a huge complaint.

there are shortcomings with the kawaii masks, but i love my sonya. i have no sculpting skills to speak of, so i couldn't really make my own mask. though i'd LOVE to buy a mask from ILUCA. i've always loved his masks, and they are tight fitting.

i borrowed an ILUCA mask from a friend, performed some much needed hair maintenance on her.

yea, that's always great. and of course you can take anything from just about any sort of sculpting or modeling tutorials, like making armor or what have you...a lot of the methods used in making high quality cosplays can be applied to kigurumi making too

>give information about the person inside
i think this varies on the relationship between the performer and character. for example, sonya will talk about me, because i am her "master" in a technical sense. she's a doll, given life through me. not very obedient, but she at least recognizes and acknowledges a relationship.

copying this from the last thread, since it was posted towards the end, and it still sort of relates to the talk of this thread

having a negative mold of your head is a very good idea, quite a few japanese kigs that make their own mask do this. it's the diffference between a generic "one size fits all" and one that actually conforms to your head with no large gaps on the sides. as for the actual coverage of the mask, that can vary too. the minimum is 50% (just the face), which you can attach to your head with straps and clasps. this is probably the best method if you want the mask to fit tight, and also the easiest if you don't know much with wigs, since you can pretty much just use a regular wig this way. the most common is the "3/4", where it goes to right around that bony part on the back of your skull, or a little bit past it. these rest easiest, since they cover all of the top of your head, but depending on how low you have the back can be hard to attach hair to....generally building a mesh on the back helps extend the coverage of the hair. rarest is probably "full head" masks, since these have to be built in 2 pieces, and it can be tricky to create a stable and strong connection between the 2. i've seen several 3/4s masks that have plastic pieces in the back that more or less make the mask a full head mask...usually just used for the case of having hair that's tied up in pony tails or pig tails or whatever.

though wyu's tutorials are the easiest to access because they're in english, the japanese ones cover a lot more stuff, and usually the pictures are enough to get a good idea of what they are doing, if not the exact materials they use.
