My bad, after reviewing the notes I've taken, it was the sencha fukamidori I had that smelled like seaweed.

Just give stuff a good vinegar rinse then, ahaha!

sometimes mine gets a mild toasted seaweed smell to it, but it isn't very strong or noticeable unless you're swirling it around to smell the tea. I'd try rinsing your equipment with hot vinegar and seeing if that solves it!

hmm, I guess, in retrospect, it really was a tea party, wasn't it? Ahahaha.

I used to drink tea with a girl I knew a long time ago. We'd swap tea as presents and stuff, but she moved away. And then I moved away.

It was really fun though, we'd bring different kinds of snacks and pastries we had made, and try a new kind of tea every time. I got to try a lot of unusual kinds and flavors from that!

But most other people I've tried to drink tea with have the same problem - they drown out the flavor of the tea itself with so much sugar it nearly turns into a syrup. It just doesn't taste any good!

I've always seen dens recommended in these threads so I used them! they're relatively inexpensive and have some really good teas. It might seem like 2-5 oz is not much at all, but it's a whoooole lot!!
They also have first flush and stuff so there's that. They're primarily for japanese teas though, so you'd have to find another place for chinese ones.

Never brew longer or with hotter water- both of these will lead to bitterness! Use more tea instead, for the same amount of time and same temperature.

Nope! But it is super relaxing in general. Maybe you just took it easy!

>>11616933
Maybe I don't drink enough of that for it to do that to me? eheheh.

You're taller than I am and I never drank coffee as a kid, ahaha! I think it's just genetic.

I dunno, I liked it a lot the first time I tried it! I really liked how warm and toasty it was, and the rice taste really stood out for me. It was a really cozy, comfortable tea!
In fact, it's grown to be my absolute favorite~

They're alright but I don't like talking about them!

I stay for tea, comiket and wonfes content, doll threads, mimikaki, and doujin music! And of course, taking it easy with a bunch of fun people!

i've heard the clay teapots give the tea a different flavor, but that doesnt sound so great so I stick to just glass.

Otherwise, it's just going to be the amount you make!

stop smoking if you do, cut back on the sugary drinks and snacks. You're probably so used to modern junk food that you've built up a tolerance with your taste buds.

>>11614511
get a thermometer! You can let the water sit a bit after you've boiled it to cool it down before adding the tea, but it takes a while. alternatively, you can add a teensy bit of cold filtered water to bring it back down, but this takes a good bit of patience and practice.

Den's is good, I use it a lot. The sampler is more or less free, and they give you a pretty good variety. The genmaicha is my favorite!
They also give you a little page with every tea and the recommended temperature/steep time, but I've needed to adjust those a bit for the sakura sencha they gave me in particular.

I dunno, different routines for different people! my way is convinent for me, your way for you, ahaha.

>Nope, it wouldn't.
Oh, it was just a guess. I cant think of any other reason why it would have the charcoal filter built in rather than that though. Back-up maybe?

if it's too bitter, that means your temperature was probably too high, resulting in scorching. As for too watery, maybe not hot enough.

Are your temperatures consistent? And the brew times? a few seconds might make the difference, or your heat could be uneven or inconsistent, causing different results.
If you have a thermometer, I'd recommend checking your temps when you notice the problems, to see if that has anything to do with it.

I've had the same problem with my stovetop peculator, which is similar, and it ended up being the heating elements on my stovetop needing replacement.
But, the thing makes too much for just me to drink alone, so I just stick to the small french press if I want coffee!

I use one! not that one in particular, and mine doesn't have a charcoal lining or anything like that, but the temperatures are fine. I'd use filtered water with them if your tap water is hard, because the minerals can build up on it which is no good. I guess the charcoal lining gets rid of the need to filter the water first though, so it might help you cut some corners!

a tea ball is way easier to clean than dirtying two pitchers, at least in my experience. I don't like using more dishes than I need to! I just take it out and set it in the upside down lid when I'm done brewing, then dunk it back in for a second brewing later on.

And cleanup is as simple as popping it inside out and a little bit of rinsing!

i've had french pressed jasmine pearl at a shop that ended up super duper nice before, but for most it's gonna have the same problem laser-chan mentioned.
I wouldn't do it personally because you cant get the leaves out till you're done so things will just get more and more bitter as it oversteeps! Unless you're drinking the tea super quickly, but in that case you probably don't care much for the flavor...

Just get a tea ball or something removable!!
I just use my french press for when I'm in the mood for coffee~

sorry about the rooibos though! I've never tried it, but it's always bad to hear about bad experiences people have....I hope you can find more tasty things to try though!

lately I've been drinking a lot of chai + milk, because the weather's been so cold!
It's nice and thick and yummy and warms you up from the inside, perfect for battling the first traces of winter!

so tasty!
>>11584027
I usually get everything from dens, but there's a korean family market nearby that I cant get stuff from too.
Nothing better than some sencha or genmaicha with some seaweed or squid to much on with it!

>>11591967
I use a carbon filter, personally, but my tap water is really really hard here. Where I used to live, we used aquifer water so it was already filtered by the time it got to the tap, so it was less to worry about.

>>11584164
There's a lot more high quality loose leaf than there is high quality bagged. usually bagged stuff is the leftovers and the tiny bits and pieces. They diffuse quicker into the liquid, but the quality might not be as good in most cases.

Most brands that do bagged stuff also tend to aim for using the cheaper teas and stuff!

>>11594163
Most teas can be served iced! A lot of black teas are really good iced, and you can look into making cold-brewed "sun tea" too if you're looking for something tasty and cold!

different tastes for different people, i guess! I'm not much of a black tea or oolong person, outside of a few here and there. I like the milder, lighter, less astringent teas! but it's always fun to branch out and try new things~ for sure for sure! you might be surprised what you end up liking sometimes.

it's actually pretty good. I think it's a super relaxing green tea to sip. It's mild and gentle, and the color when brewed is a lot darker than you'd expect from a green tea, but it's really good. Really low caffeine too, so I can drink a lot without getting shaky.

I'd take it over regular ol sencha, for sure! it's worth at least trying, den's free sampler thingy has a little bit in it I'm pretty sure~

British 'tea' isnt the same as a daily tea time, you know. it just refers to dinner usually! it's the name of a meal!

besides, tea isnt just limited to those islands! people drink it all over the world!! unless asia and america are british now~

whats wrong with kitchen goodies?

>>11271238
passionfruit tea, red mate, matcha and genmaicha! if you have a world market they have a red mate with pineapple thats super mild and fruity!
Alternatively you can make sun tea with black tea and it has almost none of the bitterness~
