Washizu Mahjong is an interesting prospect. I don't think it'd work on Tenhou because of the way the hands are displayed. IE, you wouldn't be able to clearly see the players to your left and right's tiles very clearly.

This is something I've been dicking around with in my spare time. If Mahjong weren't such a complex thing to program and if I could devote time/sanity, I'd actually try to finish, automate and polish it (yes, the interface does look like ass, thanks for noticing). So far it's just been a fun thing to play around with a few friends on, although 4 player Washizu Mahjong is probably not as interesting as two on two would be.

Akagi DS has a Washizu Mahjong mode, if you've never played it, so I suggest trying that out if you haven't yet and would like to.

Such is Mahjong. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are if you or your opponents get excellent luck. Get mad and get over it, that's the best way to play, why not.

You can't get 4 Kans in that hand, anyway, what with the fourth 8 Man being in Luc's straight.

Guys, this is why it's a terrible idea to declare kans just because you can.

That's 3 player for you. Much more luck based game than 4.

That was a horrible game, and to put the cherry on top was this misclick; one that, had I not made, would've won by tsumo a few turns later, and thus won the entire game.

Progress on bypassing it for netplay has been slow, too, I'm afraid. It's really a shame because it's a pretty fun game, that's even more fun to play with other people.

No, and it's a beginner's mistake a lot of people make. Calling kans is generally best left to doing only if you're Ten Pai. If you end up having to bail, all you've done is given the winner of the match 1-2 new dora tiles and thus more points.

A common play you'll see a lot of players make is holding Concealed Kans until they're tenpai, and then Riichi'ing right after. And that's the best way to do it, if you want to minimize risks while getting all the rewards.

Suffice it to say that the probability is very low, most likely lower than the easier Yakuman hands. Dora 12 is a virtually impossible feat short of other players being incredibly stupid or you getting lucky as balls.

Some of the shittiest hands I've ever seen, although none topped the previously posted one. My god.

Who is this KidTetsu fellow?!

Also, seems there's some activity in the lobby now if anyone wants to play some games.

It's about as simple as you can get. The only thing you might get confused about is what some of the buttons that pop up say, as they're all in moonrunes.

Fortunately, there is documentation:

That probably would've been my winning tile, yeah, unless I got lucky enough to get 13 sided Kokushi. That starting hand was absolutely unusable though. 5 Shan Ten for Kokushi, 5 Shan Ten or more for anything else. I was about as fucked as you could get.

Fuck my last hand was terrible. I got 1 Shan Ten for Kokushi but couldn't draw a single one of the Yao Chu tiles for the pair.

3 player Mahjong is generally the same as regular Mahjong, with a few changes.

1) All Manzi tiles are removed from the wall with the exception of 1's and 9's, presumably to leave several Yakuman hands in tact. Also, this is unconfirmed but something I noticed, while 9 Man normally means the 1 Man is the dora, in 3 player I think the 1 Man means the 9 Man is the dora. Someone would have to confirm this.

2) No Chi'ing allowed.

3) You can 'kui' Pei tiles. This means that you place the Pei to your right and draw one more tile. Each Pei added in this way adds 1 han to the value of your hand as if it were a dora tile, and it doesn't affect any yaku in your hand. For example, Tan Yao.

Of course, kui'ing your Pei may have unrelated consequences. Pic related.

You should've tried to get a direct hit on me instead of luck sacking, Origo.

Good game, anyway.

Aw yeah, I'm tired of losing to these Magical Sand wielding Japs. I'll be on as soon as I'm done with this game.
