listen, why don't you explain what the particular contradiction stuck in your craw is first.

the universe is a system of interactions vis a vis energy and matter. the behavior of one part of the system affects the behavior of other parts, just like neurons in the brain or particles in a weather pattern. positing some kind of supernatural connection is totally unnecessary and I have no idea why you're doing it.

i don't know, literally. but the "deity" construct is separated from us by so many orders of magnitude that i don't know if any of the models previously proposed could be properly identified as anthropomorphic. they seem like graspings shaped by the lens. do our neurons know about us?

i wasn't making fun of your verbiage. i was laughing at the idea of a deity being referent to a particular form. but i think you meant "anthropomorphic form". i get it.

it's sort of the opposite of religious. if everything is god then nothing is. the hierarchy of religion thrives on exclusivity.

2 things.

1: I feel like you've got it basically right, but you've forgotten to continue into the space beyond perceptive consciousness, into cosmic heat-death. Crowley called the white light premature enlightenment; you really know you've got it when you reach the blackness. The being posits nonbeing, and then becomes it. Death is the only way "out". Escape the wheel.

2: In the meantime: the renouncement of subculture and samsaric play sounds boring, don't you think? The godhead dreams the dream to live the adventure. Why not? just to play the devil's advocate (and I do mean Play the Devil's advocate).

Not trolling. It does a great job of outlining the basics so you know how different schools all relate to one another, so it makes a good starting point (though primary texts are a must).

this, too. and remember that you're always allowed to disagree with what you hear, if you feel you have good reason. there is no "one meaning", just stronger and weaker arguments.

i have an idea, and it might catch some flack, but i'm going to throw it out there anyway.

read joseph campbell's "hero with a thousand faces".

it's a very, very, very simplified form of what we like to call "literary criticism". campbell pulls meaning from stories and myths in very broad ways.

once you've read that, start reading the people that disagree with him. he's got a lot of problems. don't follow him like a religion. use your head, think for yourself.

i like this a lot, but it suffers from something i've seen as epidemic: its descriptions, while elaborate, lack precision and specificity. how many times have we heard the word "electricity" used to describe the feeling in a room? I also tend to like things simpler. i think i prefer a different rhythm than you.

EX:

Her eyes watched her fingers command the piano, bending its will. Everything fell from her mind. Her chords painted the room with a resonating thunder that shivered each wall and her hands galloped against the thin keys, strangling each resolved chord with tension as she pushed the piano toward crescendo. It trembled in fear as she smashed through the motifs that littered the last few moments (THE LAST FEW MOMENTS OF WHAT? OF THE COMPOSITION? OF HER TIME BEFORE THE STUDENT ARRIVED?)

these complaints are pretty specifically targeted, so this may require more spot-editing that i'm willing to give it. overall i like it a lot.

well and precisely written, but i feel like it needs a quirk, stylistically or narratively, to keep me interested. it's a bit pollyanna.
