Ajax the lesser and the rape of Cassandra at the temple of Athena. She was one of the few who suspected the Trojan horse was a trap and after the Greeks got in she took refuge in Athena's temple clinging to the statue. One of the main reasons why the gods destroyed the Greek fleet on their way back home

You will probably feel like you aren't getting it, possibly even more so after you finish the book. Its all about going for the ride.

Odysseus must have been handful. Were any of the other cats named after literary characters?

Galinthias would be a cool name for a cat. She was the one who prevented Hera's plan to stop Hercules birth and got turned into a cat because of it.

If Finnegans Wake is the pinnacle of western canon then it would only make sense to return to Homer.

K is late for the last train of the day heading homeward. With seconds to spare he manages to hop on and find a comfortable seat with a window to gaze out of. Slowly the train leaves the station and soon trees start flying by. K won't make it home, there are countless number of stations it must stop at before it reaches Ks home far off in the lonely countryside. Instead K must ride the train for some hours before getting off and boarding a train to make it back in time for work the next morning.

You obviously didn't get it, the cycle repeats. Return to Thales

riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to the Greeks

Yes its pretty good. It reminds me of a more contemporary Greek comic-tragedy that is life affirming in a Nietzchean kind of way. I found it really quick to get though as well, its not a book that's hard to get into.

No Longer Human by Dazai I feel is a good book with suicide as a subject. He attempted suicide times multiple times before eventually succeeding and the book captures the feeling of contemplating fairly well.

Mishima's short story Patriotism is an other good one about the feeling of knowing you are soon not going to exist. Its not as much about the depression though.

If you want a full length Kafka then go for the Trial or the Castle. His short stories are all amazing though.

Woman in the Dunes by Kobo Abe is my next favourite book from that genre.

Compare

Joyce, Dubliners: A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly on the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned softly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.

The Martian: By my reckoning, I'm about 100 kilometers from Pathfinder. Technically it's called "Carl Sagan Memorial Station." But with all due respect to Carl, I can call it whatever the hell I want. I'm the King of Mars.”

Its basically just writing meant to sound good rather than just trying to get a message across
