How to read “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”? Why, very quickly, to begin with, perhaps also to make an end. Why read it? Presumably, if you cannot be persuaded to read anything better, Rowling will have to do. Is there any redeeming education use to Rowling? Is there any to Stephen King? Why read, if what you read will not enrich mind or spirit or personality? For all I know, the actual wizards and witches of Britain, or America, may provide an alternative culture for more people than is commonly realized.

The writing was dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character stretched his legs'. I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing.

I know of no larger indictment of the world's descent into subliteracy.

Speak to around page 600 and read the "Story of Byron the Bulb." Eight pages of perfection, the best he's written other than Mason & Dixon and The Crying of Lot 49.

Bentley Layton’s The Gnostic Scriptures is the one indispensable book for the understanding of Gnosis and Gnosticism. No other translations are within light-years of Layton’s in eloquence, pathos, and accuracy, while no other commentaries match his as an introduction to this perpetually relevant religious stance. Layton is particularly brilliant in his appreciation of Valentinus, the central Gnostic visionary, whose Gospel of Truth is marvelously served in this translation.

I also suggest you buy my books, I use the word "gnostic" a lot in them and it might help you understand what I consider to be the true religion of literature.

You're exhibiting keys symptoms of anxiety. Just remain calm, understand that you'll never be as good as your father, or Shakespeare for that matter.

It's me, Harold, here to remind you guys that no author you'll never read a writer as rich as Shakespeare and no literary work as grand and universal as Hamlet.
