she was an english major, i'm a german major. my brother and i grew up reading a lot.
i guess in some ways i am naive.
i just was wondering what she meant i guess, especially since she got my brother (2 years younger) a game of thrones book.

i don't live with my parents, i just came down to visit

idk if i have the personality of a conqueror, i think i'm ok with my nature that i have right now

>parents get me a book every easter, as a tradition
>usually just books about language or something i've expressed interest in
>this year my mom gets me a copy of Machiavelli's The Prince
what did she mean by this? this seems like kinda a strange book. i've already read it, but idk if she knows that. it just seems weird. is there a hidden meaning

i haven't read in translation in a long time, and think that moving out of Starbreim really leaves a lot of the feeling of the language lacking
for example:
>Veit ek, at ek hekk
>vindga meiði á
>nætr allar níu,
>geiri undaðr
>ok gefinn Óðni,
>sjalfr sjalfum mér,
>á þeim meiði,
>er manngi veit
>hvers af rótum renn.
sounds much better when you can hear the repeating voiceless velar plosive throughout the first half, and so on and so on

what does /lit/ think of the sagas and eddas? do you read them in old norse or in translation? if so, who's your favorite translator? also, what's your favorite story?
the north germanic history anc culture is often neglected! give them some appreciation!

well the question is what would people who speak japanese say, and Souseki is the only author who's been on the currency
personally i think Dazai was the best author though

japanese would probably be Natsume Souseki, french would probably be Camus not Hugo, and russian would probably be either Tolstoy or Dostoevsky, not Pushkin, german may be Goethe but i feel like more people would say Kafka or Hesse or Mann or someone other than Goethe (normal people don't like verse lol)

Paradisio was boring but the imagery was kinda weird
if only it permeated our culture in the way his depiction of hell did
