90k words into a retelling of Dante’s inferno where the main protag is a blind teenage girl guided by a foul mouthed goth girl named Virginia in a Kentucky trailer park while in the guardianship of a despicable white trash redneck who represents the devil. #howtostackmetaphorlikejenga
It’s a fun little project. Should be finished in a week or so. Managed to shoehorn in some lovecraftian/stranger things shit to add to the weirdness.
Still trying to sell my space opera series.

It all came out of dreams back in 2004. The imagery was so intense that when I woke up I had to start writing down the fantastic over the top narratives I’d imagined.

I managed to get an introduction by signing up for a free 20 minute critique by a dude over at Draft2digital who’s kind of a big name in ebook aggregators. I knew he was a big name and had tons of connections so I used the 20 minutes as less of a “I’m trying to _______ with my story” and more of a “I’m looking for a publisher who doesn’t want to wait to release a lot of books and can overview a series that’s been done and edited many times” he emailed me a week later saying he knew a smaller but legit publisher who might be interested. We emailed each other, set up a zoom meeting and we got it off. They were impressed by the work ethic and my desire to produce a lot of pages. They asked for the first act and I emailed them books1-4. Waiting on initial critique.

I’m actually talking to a publisher. They’ve requested the first four books of the epic and now I’m waiting for a response.

Mid 20’s protag works for a steadily failing branch of a company that leases artificial bodies (mostly to the terminally ill or veterans) broke and living in a compartment of a vaporwave themed building, his only friend is the “Schwarzenegger in his prime” sized body building cyborg “Bubblegum dynamite” who’s only working security for the company because she’s on suspension for possible use illegal parts during her weight lifting exhibitions. When a passing sky craft drops an engine through the roof, the robot who works on the upper floors cleaning the bodies and upgrading the servers, (who also begs the MC to see the outside world, it uses the autonomous building repair machines sent by corporate to start building extra square footage that reveals a psychedelic PKD-esque/13th floor “back rooms” zone that will become the only refuge after unknowingly stepping into the sights of undead yakuza cyborgs that mistake him for a target. I know that’s a lot, but it makes sense when it’s not crammed into a run on sentence filled mega paragraph.

Trying to write a cyberpunk novel that isn’t anything like blade runner, ghost in the Shell or cyberpunk 2077. I think I’m onto something. How’s about you?

I was able to get a free 20 minute consultation with Mark Leslie Lefebvre, who’s a big name in the ebook industry. When I told him about what I was working with and how I had an extensive body of work ready to go he emailed me a week later telling me to send along a query/synopsis/series summary as he said he knew of a smaller indie traditional publisher who he thought would be a good fit. I sent it last week. Hoping for a response.

I’m still shopping things around. The kentucky vampire book is is available in digital and paperback on amazon although I wish I’d traditionally published that one. (Oh well) post a disposable email and I’ll see about sending you something. The cyberpunk story is a bout a young underpaid dude working for an outdated company that leases artificial bodies to be used inside the “recreation center “ they offer. The VA pays for A war vet missing his legs To come down a few days a month and rent a full body to swim and climb, a sick little girl with “butterfly syndrome” gets to a be a normal kid for a few hours tumbling and playing, a cute octagenerian couple comes in two times a month to borrow young bodies to fuck in. The MC is lonely and broke despite the position of running the facility. His only friends are the 7 foot tall Cyborg bodybuilder chick “bubblegum dynamite” who’s only keeping a day job until her probation is over for threatening an official, and the old man who sells him noodles and Kirin. There’s body snatchers everywhere and he lives in a small room of a vaporwave themed hostel in exchange for doing maintenance. The robot who runs the servers in the company is using a building repair service to create a “the back rooms” style atmosphere on the unused upper levels of the building. Somewhere between taking a blow to the head from almost getting body napped, a lack of sleep because he’s selling half his nightly REM’s to make ends meet, being lonely and getting lost in the back rooms, the story should develop a psychedelic PKD-esque “what’s real?” Atmosphere. There’s even random sightings of undead which no one controls but still roam the streets collecting heads for a defunct criminal database.
Those are just the notes but the meat and grit of the story is always in the details; Hologram octopi floating out of reach in the streets, etc.
