that's not how it works.

it's interesting to see a lot of people that stick with things at a young age do so because of their parents. a couple friends of mine say every time, as a child, they drew something their parents would say "wow i can't believe i'm related to you! how did you make something like this?!" and just encourage the fuck out of them. they gain some sort of ego and continue doing it because they think they are the best

and that shit worked, they are both successful artists.

i take notes on things that resonate with me separately, maybe in a journal. i don't get writing in a book, it just seems pointless to me, but maybe i just haven't heard a good reason to do it yet.

I don't see the problem with learning for learning's sake, I do plan on studying other languages once I've gotten the essentials and basics of this one.

I'm sure you weren't directing the comment about studying German in college to me but If I ever do go to Germany I would like to travel outside of the main cities into more native homelands. Being able to communicate with these people that live more on the fringes seems ideal for me. If they speak English, great, if they don't, that's fine too.

Hey /lit/,

I've decided to learn German. After some thought I realized how silly it is for me to only know English and the only thing holding me back in public school was the ridicule from other classmates and not wanting to sound/look weird in front of certain people. I've outgrown this of course.

I'm using the Michel Thomas method, but what would you recommend I read/watch/do to help me learn more or pick up a better German accent?

After this I'll give French a try, or whatever else.
