He said 'enjoyable.'

Try Dune. It's pretty long, especially if you've been out of THE GAME for a while.

Is no one going to mention Hamlet?

But, The History of Troilus and Cressida up in this bitch.

Make sure you get the 'Just the Good Parts' edition. Frankly all that other nonsense about Guilder and Floren history, and character lineages is just boring.

Well, I'm out of here, then. Don't want to be posting in a thread that has nothing to do with books on /lit/.

Also, I hope you are using a secure tripcode, because regular ones are pretty easy to figure out.

The book is far better than the movie. You'll enjoy it, without a doubt.

Fair enough, although that clothing buying story makes me shudder.

The Sound and The Fury is a decent book, though I'll always take Joyce over Faulkner.

Do you attend university or a high school? And, is it true that you empathied (I'm making it a verb.) to get books from an anon?

Also, please sage your replies as this has very little to do with literature.

>> No.1031019 [View]

Stag, being one of the other tripfags of /lit/, I'm curious as to what you actually do here. I've seen you troll, and only very occasionally make comments about actually literature. But you are on almost all the time. When do you find time to read? Or work? Are you a summer-anon?

And, so long as we're in a thread devoted completely to you, why even pick Stagolee to trip under?

What's your favorite novel and why? Why troll /lit/ and not another board?

Perfectly so. I do not, however, understand why one would enter a thread about physical books and display editions merely to point out how they have it all figured out. And congratulate themselves in the process.

Doesn't that seem odd to you?

Pointing out how NOT vain you are, I see?

Stay classy, e-reader anon. I will appreciate my library after doomsday. Or hand the books down to my kids.

>> No.1028227 [View]

I know a friend of mine actually has that exact edition... but I've never browsed through them.

I asked him about the paper, though, and he says it's pretty sturdy--more so than a regular novel. I figure it's like the leather-bound B&N editions. Gold-trim, but sturdy paper.

Thirding this one. Some decent discussion about Beowulf and Cat's Cradle would be lovely.

You seem to be forgetting the preposterous 'shelf' threads. Anon may very well be buying it just for this purpose, since no one would plop down that kind of cash until they have actually read the books.

Aubrey-Maturin Series. Good god, how I love those books.

Early 1800's. Naval life. The movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is based on one of the novels.

You know, some people just happen to like giving. Maybe it's a way of personal validation, or maybe they just like to make someone smile now and again. You can't really be angry about that. Besides, if you didn't whine about it, you might even score a free book.

And none of this, 'gift threads are killing /lit/' because they really aren't. In any event it spreads books that we can all talk about later. I've seen at least five people receive Dostoevsky, which means five more board-goers can talk about him with some measure of experience. Conversely, I've yet to see anyone receive Ayn Rand. Most of the givers promote good literature.

And, I come from this as a regular giver. I've never posted a wishlist because I simply don't need the books.

So, in conclusion, y'all whiners be foxes and these books be grapes. Next time post a wishlist. No one will think less of you for it.

Ender's Game is alright. Don't expect anything mind-blowing, though. Dune is another story. That book is fantastic. Just read it and it's sequel, Dune Messiah, and decide what you want to do from there.

I've met and chatted with Mark Strand twice now. Oh, and Tracy Hickman once.

I just like having a trip. There's no big reason to have one, but it does make conversations easier to follow.

capcha: or chasms

Good start to a pun.

Mitchell, can you post an e-mail address so I can get your shipping info?

Book depository is dopey.

>> No.1005702 [View]

Nevermind! Mitchell has double zeros!

Congrats!

One book left, friend-anons!

I sent you an e-mail.

Captcha: debris people,

>> No.1005677 [View]

Okay, world-wide people may post! Just make a trip and we'll figure out book depository stuff if you win. How does that sound?

>> No.1005657 [View]

Poor anon had doubles but didn't post a list. :(

I live in Utah at the moment, attending university. I am from Limerick, Ireland. My father is from Dublin, any my mother is from Buenos Aires. Irish-Argentinian fag. Woo.

We have a winner!

>> No.1005648 [View]

Captain Indigo, please do post. If I recall there is a site that has cheap shipping. If you win, I'll just send you the book through them. Does anyone remember the name of that site?
