Thx for the OSTs, OP. Far better than just throwing on RainyMood.com... which gives me a headache after a while.

I'll be reading 'Their Finest Hour', and finally reading 'Catcher and the Rye' (I know... I know).

Also hoping to finish the second draft of a short story I've been labouring on.

Agreed.

We should all realize that studying anything in university is a general waste of time, that much of what we study can be self-taught, and the majority of our role models or favourite authors dropped out of school or despised going.

Yes, there are exceptions to that generalization. Hence 'majority'.

Regardless of whether you're studying philosophy or English Lit, what you ought to actually be studying is life. The rest is just regurgitation and failure to understand the underlying themes in everything you read - the attempts to understand our very existence.

Nice! Lots of sweet shit you've got.
Makes me want to start reading some Jap Lit.

Very jealous. I'm hoping to bring my collection down 100-200 books, as I don't read a lot of it... or I'll never pick them up after having already read them before.
Just obsessed with ideas and hate the idea of getting rid of books.

I'm not Jewish, nor is the majority of the information on my profile accurate or real.

I.e. My name isn't Eli. Pseudonym.

Eat it, slut.

Btw, here's mine:
http://www.librarything.com/profile/EliYork

I'm just putting all my books in slowly right now... have 450-500 or so, lots of which need to be weeded out of my collection (I'm a book hog and have a few multiples, and way too many LotR/SW-based reference books, as well as some books I don't even like).

I've only just finished what I consider the 'rare/old' books, which took the most time since a few of them didn't have any entries... and I write out the table of contents for anthologies, so that I have a searchable database.

A bunch of nerdy kids were into these when I was growing up and I never got into them - what's the best one to start with?

Also!
The Hunger Games. Shit's cash.
My GF is addicted to them and I didn't know why, so when I needed something to read at the gym, I grabbed her copy... read 3-4 chapters on the bike. Pretty good.
Especially good for instilling the idea of a strong woman figure, rather than piss poor role models like Bella or the Mormonism of Twilight.

Perks of Being a Wallflower!

Also, anything by Francesca Lia Block.

I have the same issue... trying to instill some compassion/virtue/world understanding into my 13-year-old niece. Bought her some Lia Block and she seemed to like it.

Hopefully it'll get her away from Twilight/Kesha/Bieber/ughhhh. Sitting down and discussing what you're making her read helps, too.

>Since real literature nerds care about the form and not just the words. Just as real writers have their own way of writing their works, often turning off the internet or getting far away from computers.

Good used book stores, libraries, even Amazon or Chapters/Indigo.

Asshole.
I just got distracted from my painful essay by going and making an OKCupid profile, at which point I began to answer a series of stupid questions to improve my ability to find a match.

Then I realized I have a girlfriend that I live with and I don't need this shit so I came back here to tell you to fuck off.

Seriously.
This book sums it up, helps you understand how to apply it to daily life, and makes it very accessible and relevant (while also being a very easy read).

Good intro.

Implying going to 4chan automatically makes you pathetic.
The best writers would chill on 4chan at 5am.

The rest are dinks.
